Have found that if you spray a line about 6 inches widearound your stuff with repellent they do stay away. Even in a chair they get in your clothes and all on your feet unless you hold them up the whole time. FL thong thanks for reminding me to say something about the repellent.
The beach was empty Saturday afternoon. There were not 10 people out after 5:00 pm. Sunday morning and afternoon we looked like sardines. The beach was packed. Still plenty of thongers out. Both men and women. Was a great day overall even if it was really crowded. Great walk from te the thongers area north alongthe conservation beach now. You can see plenty of new sand piling up along the dunes, the sea oates are growing and multiplying, some type of grass is growing up by the dunes, turtle nest are there, and plenty of birds are hanging out. So I have to say even though I miss the are we use to lay out at I am glad to see nature taking back over. |

7 but got bored and headed home. Sunday had a few more people in the late evening but it seemed the 7pm whistle went off and everyone ran for their cars. I'm just glad the menacing looking weather held off those two days. Today on the other hand... I was out from about 2-6 and there were 8 or 10 people thonging and two couples in bikini/speedo. I also met a really fun couple with matching color thong suits. We chatted for a while but kept looking up at the sky hoping the clouds would veer. We braved the rain for a little while but we ended walking through the rain back to our cars when we saw the first bolt of lightning . I headed to the changing area to put on some dry clothes and by the time I was done the rain was gone. I considered heading back out there but when I did the dark cloud reared its ugly head again and I just went to the bookstore instead. I'll probably head out tomorrow and try again to catch some good weather. Thanks for the tip about the bugspray. I'll definately try that since, even with the cot, I still got bit 3 times. Pesky fire ants!

I caught some little 20 something creep (about my age - maybe a little younger) taking pictures of an older thonging couple. He pretended to have lost something in the sand for about 20 minutes, finally planted himself up on a dune, stripped down to those tight brazilian style shorts for men, and headed to the water. He came back after about 20 min and grabbed "a shirt" and stood right behind them taking pictures while holding the camera under the shirt. He saw me see him do it and he quickly packed up and left. I probably should have told the couple too but I guess I was a little scared, maybe I'll get the courage to talk to them someday.
About 7pm three ladies (maybe 50,30 and 15) came to the beach with two young boys who must have been about 5-6. They set up south of me about 100yds. The two younger ones took a walk up the beach to the north. Since there were kids a short distance away (and b/c I was cold) I decided to cover up but it didn't take long to get warm again and as they came back from their walk I was uncovered. Both kept glancing at me as they passed. Then they grabbed the older lady and the two kids and walked north again. Since they had already passed me once and decided to bring the kids my direction I decided against covering up this time and flipped over to my front side so I could go back to TRYING to read the book I've brought with me for the last 5 days. As they passed I could hear a barely audible child asking if "that man over there is naked" and the 30 something lady (very matter of factly) said "no, he wearing a thong". That was the end of the conversation and they kept walking and picking up seashells. Well the sunset was really nice, even more so since the sun was completely hidden from 5-7:30. I packed up, wrapped my waist in my towel, and ended up walking the trail back to the car right alongside this group. The older two ladies both smiled and greeted me asking how I was doing. I responded that I was terrific after the marvelous sunset. They agreed and we chatted most of the rest of the way to our vehicles which happened to be parked about 15 feet apart. I bid them farewell and they did the same. All in all, it was a very pleasant day (except the mosquitoes nailed me about 9 times between the beach and the car) Note to self... "use bug spray before walking through the tall grasses". |

Would that my recent 'roasting' at the beach had been an episode more like yours, but the redneck father in my case chose not to handle my thonging as an opportunity for teaching his daughter broad-mindedness -- he had none to share! Poor child, her uptight future is more assured than ever.

They even have the ones that have no strap between the legs. It is like a pouch. I have bought some from Skinz in the past but they just seem to be bigger and made with heavier material.

My wife wore a Skinz G-String bikini and I wore a mesh g-string both days, we didn't see any women there either time and the few men there were wearing fairly conservative suits, we looked like exhibitionists compared to everyone else...not that it bothered us but some company would've been nice. It was a good trip otherwise...one day we'll make the gulf coast of Florida our permanent residence.

It's not a good idea to wear see-though suits, and you should wear suits that have a strap or string around your hips. The strapless suits or "baggies" are asking for trouble because it looks like you are nude from many angles. That starts complaints and gets the rangers looking at you more closely.
The biggest challenge now for many thongers is that the more private area that was once a forest has been closed for the birds. You can walk by the gulf there, but you can't set up your stuff around the bend out of the site of the more populated area. If you don't care who sees you, there is no problem. |

But going back to your comment about the straps: Does that apply to the rear vertical strap? That's mainly what I'm worried about. If the rear strap is not visible from a distance is there danger that someone will think my rear is not covered and report me?I pretty much wear only Skinz suits these days. So it comes down to the sunseeker rio, super low rio, or the skinny side thong.

Have stood there and talked to a ranger in his truck and he never made a comment about my suit. Use good judgement and you will be fine. If you try and force yourself ( exhibitionist) on unsuspecting families and push your luck with the rangers you may be asked to leave. I wear sheer pouches and solid ones but understand when to get up and when to stay seated for a few minutes while someone walks by. If you look at the person that will see you and say if that was my mom would I walk by her in this you will usually be okay in your movement decisions. We walk to the north point quite often and I figure if they have passed a bunch of thongs then mine will nt bother them. I do cover myself if I have on my sheer when with my hands as we pass. Not touching but just blocking in front of my suit. Go enjoy and have a great time.

I like the mesh for getting an overall tan, and from any distance its see-thru nature is not discernible. The color of the pouch and the presence of a waist string are enough to make it obvious from any angle that I'm dressed, and I've never been hassled. From what I've heard about Ft DeSoto, I expect I'll feel fine wearing it there. Hope my chance comes soon!

You don't really want some one calling the rangers or police on you and starting an incident.
While you maybe able to get away with less, when the rangers are not looking closely, or when they prefer to turn a blind eye and not deal with you, this is less likely when they are responding to an incident report from the general public. So in the interests of peace, tranquility and general integration with the rest of the park users, I would use a suit that has side and rear straps that are, where practical, visible. |

As Mike and I chatted while sunning last week at our RI beach, we agreed our goals were twofold: make sure we offend no one; and make sure no one has cause to call the cops.

I got out about 11 am and the weather was beautiful, light breeze from the NE and temps in the high 70's with clear blue sky and warm sun. The longer the day got the warmer and nicer the weather got. Just a few other thongs on the beach and very spread out. I had on my skinz blue mesh G-String and was sporting a nice all around tan. I took a few walks North along the shore were the park had put up more bird protection signs. On my first walk early upon arrival as I was heading back south a county park suv with a few people on board were touring the area, never a problem, they drove up the beach and down and then gone for the day. Never once saw a ranger in the 4 hours I was there. As the day went on more bathers came out to the beach but still very quiet and spread out. On one walk south on the shoreline upon returning back to my towel up by one of the signs a young couple (tourist) had just setup camp not 20 feet from me they must have not seen my stuff because there was noone else anywhere near close by. I walked up said hello and layed on my towel stomach up. I heard the young guy say (3 miles of beach and we pick this spot) a few minutes later they leave there stuff and walk towards the parking area. Then there parents walk up without the other two and sit on there chairs for a few minutes. I think they were waiting for me to move. NO WAY, I was there first. Anyway, they all picked up and moved 200 yards down the beach. I stayed a while longer enjoying the sun and came away with an awesome tan! Planning to be out again on Monday.

The Fort was perfect, light breeze no waves (Glass) and hot sun with white clouds in the distance. It was a hot one today! It seems many of use had the same idea as there were at least 12 to 15 other gstrings out today. I noticed that almost everyone today was in gstrings and not thongs. Mostly men today but a few ladies (3) in all, it would be nicer if more women would venture to the Fort. The weather should as good tomorrow so I will be planning another day of sun.

Florida Department of Environmetal Protection is talking about letting Egmont Key go back to the Federal Wildlife Agency to oversee. This is one of 19 State Parks the Governor is looking at giving up maintaining and overseeing. Wonder if that means we may get a clothing optional beach on th west coast of Florida? May want to keep an eye on this. Another one of interest is 3 River State Park. It would go back to Federal Jurisdiction.

There was another article about this today in the Tampa Tribune. They say the Feds may not keep Egmont open. Then who will be watching to see if people are rather comfortable? Somebody will have to patrol it and be able to enforce some type of law and order. We have noticed the bathroom are getting cleaned again at Fort Desoto. There for about 6 weeks they were getting bad. Hopefully with gas cost going down they will be able to get back to doing some good maintenace at the Fort. |

And yes I wore a regular speedo last year there, and only two tanga thongs I saw in two days on Clearwater beach, and they were on European girls that I suppose did not no the rules.

Falls just after the Holiday season and before we have the MLK Holiday. Then we get the Superbowl here in Tampa. So I bet the beach will be slow except for a few regulars. It is just as you com out the walk way to the beach. The funny thing is they only have the one and it is where all the thongers will see it. Kind of funny. But they were roping off more area down around the trees getting ready for breeding season. Which we really have no problem with. But there were no less than 10 of us in thongs the whole time they were driving back and forth. They never stopped or did anything more than wave.

They must have unroped some space over the season, because the 2008 bird area had already encompassed most all the treed space, the weedy tidal plain (where the birds really nest-We've watched them from the beach), and lots of the sandy beach(which they still drive their SUV's on, scaring the birds), which the rangers had extended to be a prohibition for tourists shelling out on the sand bars in front of the park.
I can't understand why beachgoers are presumed to destroy birds on the sandy beach, but rangers SUV's don't destroy birds, particularly when there are no birds nesting on that sandy beach. |

The last time I walked over by the extreme north end of the beach, which used to be thong area, I was amazed that the trees had been destroyed and the dunes that were once there were almost all gone. I have never understood the tree policy at Ft. DeSoto. They take down good shade trees, sometimes replace them with palms that often die because of a lack of attention, and then allow the gulf to wash out the sand. Anyone who thinks that sea oats alone can save the beach is mentally challenged.
Truly those who practice the environmental religion. have a unique way of "preserving" beach sand. As for the area, be forwared that space is wide open and there is no place to really be discrete If a bunch of kids or a family sets up in that area, there is no way that you can be out of way of sight. It is now a wide flat area that has unobstucted views from both sides of the peninsula. |

You're assuming that the intent of the rangers is practicing environmentalism. From my experience, all too many are just toadies for those in charge, and use the environmentalist excuse to go after those they do not approve of. Somehow it's always the section of beach that thong-wearers (or nudists) use that get targeted for "renewal" or "nesting grounds". That's not an accident. |

I live in St Pete and I have not been out there since October. Not my kind beach weather when it's not 80+ everyday. What is the deal with the west beach area, is it closed off all together? I don't see were there was ever a designated thong beach so if the rest of the island is still open to the public for going to the beach then I will just have to go to a different section of the beach, it all works for me, I will wear a thong or g-string to what ever beach I want until I see a law passed that says I can not, then I will just have to go else where. I pay taxes in Pinellas and I will use the beach as I want. Ski |

They have actually opened a large area to the north up for setting up and laying out. Did hear the rangers did ask one person, that usually wears a shell, to please not wear it any more. The only person the ranger stopped and spoke with were the idiots that cannot readt the signs. Where it says conservation area it means conservation area. It does not mean lay your stuff that high along the beach. I got into it with two idiots that refused to move their stuff. The rangers are being cool and allowing us to have most of the beach back. We need to work with the rangers and help police ourselves. If we stay cool they will stay cool. The ranger saw me and knew my swimsuit had no bottom strap but never even flinched about it. I believe the other issue may be dead in the water as it had only gotten to the Fort Desoto committee. I think it got nixed in these trying times.
Please just be respectful and play by the rules. If we do that we will keep this wonderful beach. If we do not and/or we let a few ruin it for all of us it is our own fault. We hope to get out again sometime next week. This time during the week to see what type of crowd is out then. We are coming up on Spring Break for a lot of kids that will be down visiting grandparents. We need to respect that and be a little discreet the next 5 to 6 weeks. All worth keeping the beach the way it is now. |

1) The area north of the large parking lot up toward the inlet? or 2) The area just north of the fort and concessions stand near the point where you can see the large public beach across the shallow water? But the one most go to on here is the one north of the concession stand. Just a gentle warning here. If you are a male that will be going out alone you may encounter some gay males flirting or try ing to sit closer to you than you would like. Not saying it happens a lot but it does happen. Just let them know you are straight and they will usually leave you alone.

I went to the fort last year and felt really at home, because there were so many people thonging just like me, men and women, i t was great. Has it really changed? I dont bother anybody, i just layout tan and leave.

She wore an orange thong from skinz and I wore a cutaway black thong. I spoted on my walk 20-24 people wearing G-strings/thongs 4 couples and then the rest guys. Weather was great and the water is starting to get real nice. Overall an excellent day and the thongers were well represented there.

Saw about 10 other guys in thongs and G's but no women other than my wife. Cant complain though, anytime you can enjoy a very sexy relaxing day at the beach with my girl.
