The annual SunSplash beach brunch is a group. Other than that I feel no need to meet up with other male thongers. I just wear a thong every day, in the yard, on the street, on the beach or paddling around the cannels. I do see men, normally gay men, out in a group, either on a boat or at the beach. - If you are gay and want to hangout with other gay men at the beach then head to Sebastian, (although the city has fucked up the closest parking). - If you are straight then you may prefer to go to the beach with women. They don't need to be thongers to be your allies and protector. Just do it. - If you are a little scared then start thonging around 18th/19th Street where you may find other men in thongs. ( Personally I find more friendliness and support when there are women around, thonged or not. Women tend to like brave men.) When I was still able to run on the sand I regularly thonged on the beach. Now, being unable to run, unless I have sociable company I don't go to the beach. I don't like sitting around by my self with nothing to do. So these days I go paddle boarding in a thong. Sometimes alone or sometimes with others. Yesterday, Tuesday, I was out paddle boarding with a delightful young women and her dog. We paddled up the river to downtown. There we got off on the public floating dock and ate a late lunch, sitting waterside tables at the Downtowner. We did slip on a chest coverup, a floaty transparent vail like wrap for her and a mesh running singlet for me. We did not put on shorts. The afternoon weather was perfect and there were lots of people out. People on private boats, water taxies, tripper boats, or on shore, waking the Riverwalk or dining at waterfront restaurants. I did not here anything negative and we got a lot of positive comments. I am sure many looked, just like they do when women in thongs ride on the front of a boat or paddle board past. I am sure the tourists got an eyeful, but they always seem happy and wave. The Jungle Queen skipper gave a wave and a toot, as usual. I know there are men who seek safety in numbers, but this only makes sense if there is something to be feared. Unless you mingle with the unruly spring-break collage kids you are very unlikely to get a negative comment, and even if you do that is a problem in their head, not yours. Just shrug and go on about what ever it was you were doing. It is probably hard for people who come from places or families that are still homophobic to understand most of the people who live here don't care if you are gay, and so don't care if you wear a rainbow shirt or a thong swimsuit. As more Americans start wearing speedos or thongs the level of acceptance goes up. Acceptance does not necessarily mean approval, but we are getting there slowly. In and around Fort Lauderdale (We are talking East of US1, not the western suburbs like Davie or Plantation) acceptance of thongs is high. This is especially true on the beach and around the waterfront. I get many complements from both women and men, and I am OLD. I strongly suggest you put on a thong and just hit the beach, or even better get a paddle-board and hit the waterways. Go alone or invite friends. Be public. You will find all sorts of unexpected allies: From passing boats that cheer to people offering you drinks or BBQ. If you want to buy an inflatable paddle board I have some new in the box that I got on discount.

Great post, JM.

Question:

What is your "go to" swimsuit?  Or top 2 or 3...

Personal observation:

I have been thonging since my teens through late 40's.  Probably 50/50 alone or with others.

Styles, attitudes, etc, change like the tides, but so do we.  I think there's a dynamic between the combination of my attitude and the prevailing styles/attitudes that has been good and bad over the years.  As a very young guy, I had more slightly to moderately bad reactions to my thong wearing, as I got a little older (and fitter), the experience was a generally a little better (the Baywatch era...), then still older, a few more bad experiences crept up (public attitudes? or my wearing more daring styles?), now that I'm even older, I seem to get 99.9% good vibes.  Have I learned to use better judgement in what I wear in different situations?  Has keeping in good shape made a difference? Do people think it's great to see the crazy old dude in a thong? Have public attitudes changed?  Who knows.  All you can do is be your best self and do it your way, as long as you are not hurting anyone else. If you are happy with yourself, others around you will be too.

JM_Runs : Nice post : encourages people to just go out and enjoy themselves wearing their thongs in public ! Just like I said it in my recent "Stop Hiding" post ! For the shy and hesitant : You can always start with speedos or a skimpy/ very skimpy non thong swimsuit and gradually move on to a thong (things are not always in black and white) So stop hiding and going to "secluded" beaches and WEAR YOUR THONG IN PUBLIC.... Please ..... You owe it to your self !

Hello,

My name is Monica and I just joined the forum today. I live in Fort Lauderdale area in Florida. Just 15 minutes away from the beach. I go to the Sebastian Street side of Fort Lauderdale beach usually because of the parking and yes, I see people wearing thongs there like myself. I am looking for a thong meetup group in Fort Lauderdale area so I can have friends to go to the beach with.

I would appreciate anyone wanting to help. Thank you!

Welcome to the community, Monica. I hope you find this place supportive and welcoming. If I lived in Ft. Lauderdale area I would be happy to have a friend at the beach. Unfortunately, for me, I live five States north.

Let me repeat RapidBlue's welcome Monica.  While I live 1-1.5 hours from FtL, I do like to thong there several times a month and would be pleased to join a group.  So let's hear from other locals or semi-locals who might be interested.  I was already planning for this Saturday, weather-permitting.

BeachGirl, Monica. First check out the Thong Wearers Sunsplash event in Fort Lauderdale, last weekend in June. https://sunsplashweekend.weebly.com/events--activities.html https://thongboard.aimoo.com/topic/SUNSPLASH_2026__July_24___26__Fort_Lauderdale__Florida-1025737-7357-1 Next, if you have facebook join a group called "Paddleboarding in Fort Lauderdale with James". I have plenty of paddle boards and share them with friends. However, I am not in Fort Lauderdale, right now. Currently in Spain on the island of Mallorca, for the Summer. Over here we are right on the beach so I am wearing a thong on the beach every day and a good number of the women go topless too. Good thong environment. I will be back to Fort Lauderdale in the fall and will restart paddle boarding then.

Recently got to FtL on a weekday around noon in July!. Walked to the Bonnett House stretch and I was the only one there. Nearby lounger field had many people - only a few female thongs. Overall TIV was 1-2 and NATIV (not a thong in view) was 30. That's the inverse of Miami Beach! Anyway wore a non see thru but tan thru G string without anyone noticing or caring.
