Planning to visit Miami in early April. Are there a lot of springbreakers in April? Also are hotels in Miami more expensive in April because of spring break?

By April university/college spring break is well over. You may run into primary and secondary schools breaks either for the Easter holiday or their spring break depending on the school district and when you may be there. My experience is that it is not as crazy in April as it is in March. All of Miami Beach is a bit more relaxed in April. There seems to be more families roaming around. The weather is usually near perfect. In general hotel prices in Miami are a bit more reasonable than on the beach. The trade off is transportation to/from the beach and parking if you drive. If you stay in downtown Miami there is a bus that goes to Miami Beach and fairly convenient. In Miami Beach there is a free trolly system that is a great way to get around.

Well, I have to correct that (where it was said that Spring Break is well over for colleges by April. That simply isn't accurate). You can expect to see people on Spring Break during ALL of March and ALL of April. There are plenty of colleges who don't have it until the last week of April. Here is just one of the many websites that list college spring break dates: https://www.efultimatebreak.com/traveling-with-us/spring-break#schoolsA

Not much influence in April
Only 12 colleges in the first week of April and 2 each for the second and third week.
Mid March will be the peak spring break season here.

Spent 7 of the last 9 days at the Stadard hotel. Didn't hang out there during the day, but at night I would take advantage of their 24 hour pool, with skinny dipping every night between 1am and 7am. As if there was any further confirmation needed that nudity is acceptabe those hours, one night I got up out of the hot tub and started walking toward the pool fully nude. I did not see the security guard walking round the corner making his hourly round. Probably passed within 3 feet of him, lol. But neither he nor management said anything. I only saw two other people use the pool area briefly nude during my stay.

Mrs. FunLawyer and I just spent 5 days at The National hotel in Miami, 1677 Collins, right at 17th Street and Collins, next door to (temporarily closed) Delano, and it was FANTASTIC. The hotel was immaculate, even sparkling. The room was amazing, 10th floor ocean view. The service was unbelievable--from the front desk, to room service, to the pool staff, it was as if we'd stepped back 30 years in customer service; it was truly remarkable. We rented a cabana by the pool each day. It was pricy, but essential in the hot September sun. With the cabana came food and beverage service, which included a plate of fruit, a plate of vegetables, a bottle of champagne, a bottle of Evian, and 4 sodas. We always got orange juice or grapefruit juice to make mimosas with our champagne. I don't think they charged us for the juice. I don't think we ever ate all the fruit and vegetables--we took alot back to our room. When we arrived, there was a personalized note in our room, along with a complimentary plate of desserts. The National advertises as "adult only," and it was. No kids. They gave us resort bracelets for ID and access to hotel amenities. They have bicycles for rent, including two free hours. The paved bike path runs directly (north-south) behind the hotel, which one must cross over to reach beach. We never did get around to riding the bikes, but we saw plenty who did. We also rented a "cabana" on the hotel's Beach, which was unnecessary--the regular beach lounges and umbrellas would have been fine. The beach "cabana" did not include any food or drinks, but the pool staff was very diligent in bringing anything we ordered from the menu. The pool was topless and thong-friendly. A couple women were topless, and bikinis were everything from granny shorts to g-strings. Mrs. was TNG the whole time. I was in mesh and sheer Rios, thongs, and g's. All remarks were positive. The beach was less so. Because it was the hotel's beach right on South Beach, we wore what we wanted, but saw no other topless, thongs, or g's, which was odd, being "South Beach." No comments positive or negative. We visited Haulover for 1 day. Moderately populated from restroom #5 going north. We've seen it busier, and we've seen it less busy. BB vendors will provide 2 beach loungers and umbrella for $65.00, as well as a small food truck--quesadillas, nachos, burgers, sodas, etc., for prices you'd expect. No creep factor at all when we were there. Shared Haulover stories with other National guests, who also reported no creep factor. We ate at Joe's Stone Crabs: must visit when in Miami. We also ate at Mango’s, and saw the "show," which is a squalid tourist trap: avoid this place. We also ate at Dolce, Italian, right across the street from National. Unbelievable. The anti-pasta appetizer was the size of a large pizza pan. We took most of it with us. The pasta, homemade daily, was spectacular. The desert was 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream with a shot of Frangelico, and a shot of (decaf) espresso, all poured over sliced strawberries. Again, it was just unbelievable. The National has a Spanish restaurant in the main building. I had a cowboy steak that was as big as many small dogs, and it was magnificent. Mrs. had a ribeye that was equally impressive. The sides were equal to the task: potato puree, some kind of mild peppers, and a mushroom mix that was one for the books. The mushrooms also figure prominently in the daily omelets we ordered. They also have a tapas menu, upon which we dined liberally at the p Don't use taxis. Uber is faster, cheaper, and more responsive. Even in the hotel, we found the non-English speakers vastly outnumbered English speakers. This was a dramatic change from previous visits. We encountered staff, visitors, waitstaff, and drivers from Ecuador, Guatemala, Argentina, Haiti, Cuba, England, Italy, and Missouri. Everyone was polite, kind, and eager to serve, but language was a barrier, which we felt was very odd.

Part II. @lindros: the pools stayed open until 2000, but food and beverage service stops earlier than that. If you want food service, you have to flag down a staff member, which is not hard. I promise you, we did not go hungry. The pools can close earlier if rented out for private event, but we did not feel put-out. I asked the pool manager about staying out there after 2000, and he candidly said "don't try it--security will ask you to leave." So we didn't try. Frankly, by 2000, and after dinner, we were exhausted and hit the rack NLT 2300 each night. We're not antiques, but we're not 20-somethings either. After being in that heat, we'd had all we could handle by 2300. Reports that the pools are open 24 hours are not correct. We had breakfast and were in our cabana by 0830-0900 (and we did not leave until 2000; we got our "full" vacation) every day, which meant we were usually the first out there. We ordered breakfast in-room everyday. Restaurant opens at 0700. First day I called at 0700, and the staff member said "OK, your food will be there in 15-20 minutes." I thought, "yeah, sure--I'll believe it when I see it." Well, exactly 17.5 minutes later, I became a believer. That was the standard for our entire visit. And the servings were enormous. The best tapas was the patatas bravas: simply fried potatoes on a spicy tomato sauce, spicy aoli, sour cream, all covered in paprika and chives. We ordered 3 or 4 of those every day. We had several jambone platters, which was not just ordinary "ham"-- it was several types of Spanish ham, which I can't describe (think salami, prosciutto, etc), but were incredibly delicious. We did not order a single dish that we did not thoroughly enjoy. There are 2 bars in the hotel. Live piano music on Thurs, Fri, and Sat (IIRC). We walked through a few times on our way to other destinations, and it was rockin'. The smaller square pool, closer to the beach, is heated, restrooms, and a small, anemic shower. The larger pool is unheated, which was refreshing in the heat. There were some pool styrofoam floaties, balls, etc for guest use. When we went to dinner at the restaurant, we were immediately met with our favorite cocktails, complimentary. The pool staff had informed the restaurant what we'd been drinking, and they dropped them on us as soon as we sat down. Unbelievable customer service. I already discussed thongs, etc., above, but for our dining-out wardrobe, Mrs. was dressed nicely, even elegantly, but 100% sheer, even at Joe's (where the staff wear tuxedos), and no-one blinked. I wore dress slacks and a golf shirt, and wore a suit to Dolce. We got many comments from passers-by that we were a "power couple." The pool (and beach) provides towels as well as SPF 50 sunscreen and even after-sun lotion, which was a life-saver. On the first day, Mrs. had forgotten her sunglasses, so one of the pool staff ran across the street and bought her a nice pair; which we tipped, obviously. Staff reports that the "busy" season is January, but lightens up in February, then gets "crazy" in March for Spring Break. Summer months are obviously slower. When we ate in the restaurant, we were totally alone, and we totally loved it. Some people purchase day passes for the pool, so we don't know how many people at the pool were also guests at the hotel. The pool was light to moderately populated, but was not crowded by any means. Same at beach. That's most of the salient points. If we think of anything else relevant, I'll post it. In the final analysis, go to the National and thong on!!

Spent four nights at the Stan!dard hotel (Sun pm - Thu am). Only saw 1 topless woman but a number of thongs. Nothing skimpy on the guys. Once again no issue skinny dipping 1am - 7am, even though it started getting daylight around 6:15 and sunrise 6:30. The workers start cleaning around 5:30am but no issue either. Didn't see any other nudity, and frankly the hotel was dead as nobody used the pool after 1am but me. I'll be back for 3 more nights this Sun-Wed. Agoda.com has the best prices for this hotel. I don't stay here Thursday night thru Saturday night cause the prices become too insane.

Staying at the Sherry Frontenac hotel from yesterday to Sunday. Great hotel for the price. Used to be that only airline pilots and flight attendants could stay there; now anyone can. Has a big pool open to 11pm but not heated. Unfortunately not a good hotel for thonging. Not that it's against any rules, but you won't see anyone wearing one there. At night people like to hang out on the loungers and drink beer which is not a good environment for thonging.

Muzz: I didn't spend time at the indoor spa, not really my thing. Jfish: No problem thonging on the beach in front of Fontainebleau. The pool is supposed to be thong and topless friendly. I haven't stayed there but I saw other reports that say topless is non-existent there now (kinda like the rest of miami beach in recent years).

Yes thongs should be fine anywhere/any place in Miami Beach. Jan. weather should be fine-- but it's about the coldest month of the year in Miami too. This means higher risk of a "cold snap"- so instead of hi 70's or 80 for a high sometimes one or two days can have highs in the 50's or 60's. Couldn't give a prediction of chance for a cold snap but probably 20% chance of 60's or lower. BTW a recent day on Southbeach and had TIV of 2-10 and sat amongst 4 TNT women.... so they're out there.

I've never had an issue wearing a thong in South Beach, either at hotel pools or on the beach. We were at the Ritz just over 2 weeks ago, prior to flying to Rome. I wore thongs there with absolutely no issue but several smiles from some women!

I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott at the Dolphin Mall in Doral, Florida last weekend, (11-10-23 - 11-13-23). This is east of Miami International Airport and a 40-minute drive to Haulover Beach, so it is NOT close to the beaches. The advantage is that the rates are lower, the free parking plentiful, and their nice pool is open 6AM-11PM. I asked if I could use the pool at other hours if I was quiet and they readily said "yes". I thonged every time I used the pool which was probably six times in four days, half of those at about 2AM. Most of the time I was the only one at the pool, two other times others were there. No one was offended or said anything negative about my thong. Actually, six ladies from Trinidad enjoyed talking to me, and I knew I was unexpected eye candy for them. We happily took pictures together. I would stay there again.

Interesting recent review of The Stan!dard hotel. Check out item #1 in list of cons. For me it would be list of positives, lol. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g34439-d296000-r934172168-The_Standard_Spa_Miami_Beach-Miami_Beach_Florida.html "1) People were having sex in the hot tub around 8 pm, which made our final night swim deeply uncomfortable. It was hard to believe anyone would be so rude to do this in public and that none of the hotel staff monitor the facilities overnight."

Apparently they were getting to bed after the 8 pm swim....and probably to sleep. They should have stayed up later and gone out after midnight! Like the management response "...ensure a more enjoyable experience for our guests in the future. " You'd think two honeymooners complained someone killed their buzz. I've heard the hotel has been sold- I believe to the same owners as a few other in the chain. I hope they don't Disney the hotels around the world! There are already thousands of them for others to use!

@FunLawyer - thanks for the report about your time at The National. Per your glowing recommendation above I've booked a few days there with my wife. Can you share a little more about your experience heading to and from the beach or pool from your room and moving around the resort? Were you also wearing a thong? If so, were you the only guy in a thong? Did you have any comments from the resort staff? Thanks!

Re:HOTELS in South Beach , Miami Beach, SOBE

Based on previous posts, I chose to stay at the National Hotel for a trip to Miami Beach. It lived up to expectations. My wardrobe for the trip consisted of teardrop g-strings, skimpy thong bodysuits, and miniskirts. See my separate post explaining the miniskirts. I got a new Skinz teardrop g-string for the occasion. The very first day at the pool I saw two women with g-strings and another topless. Overall for the week, I saw no more than 5 to 10 percent thongs worn by women, and maybe a fourth of women had cheeky bikinis. The rest were a range of skimpy to moderate bikinis to one pieces. Two thirds of men had trunks at mid thigh. What looked like board shorts were knee length streetwear along with shirts, worn by 10 percent of men, and not pool attire. I counted 10 bikinis on men for the week. I noted a trend to more body hair removal by men. The best couple: she had a very narrow one piece thong and he had a small bikini. One morning a middle aged man arrived wearing a small bikini. After spotting me, he went back to the hotel and a few minutes later returned wearing a tiny thong. The next day his suit was even smaller, essentially a g-string. Nice to have company. The age range was broad but mostly older. The staff and guests showed no negative reactions to anyone. I walked around the pool area and back and forth to the beach without a care. Everyone was super polite. I got a compliment from one of the staff. Of course, I had the smallest suits with my collection of teardrop g-strings, a different one each day. Having an overall tan gives the impression such a small suit is expected. Lounge chairs at the pool filled in around me with people who did not care what I was wearing. The contrast between me 1 percent covered and people next to me 70 percent covered was striking, but shows the diversity of this hotel. There was at least one woman each day wearing a g-string. They all walked around the pool and to the hotel and back without coverups. Two women had true micro bikinis with very tiny tops and bottoms. They came as close as anyone to matching the small size of my suit. I saw at least one topless woman on three days. A woman in a lounge chair next to me, after watching me walking around wearing next to nothing, got bold enough to go topless. She even got up and walked around topless. She got no reactions at all. She had a moderate bikini bottom. Her partner wore a squarecut and kept pulling it down as it rode up to outline his butt cheeks, the male equivalent of a woman pulling down a cheeky. Another woman with a cheeky pulled it down to her butt crease to tan. Geez...get a thong. The smaller square pool by the bar and most of the lounge chairs got a lot of use, including those with minimal swimwear, in full view of everyone, without a care, enjoying themselves. There is a larger long pool excellent for swimming long laps, and in full view of traffic walking by to and from the hotel. Us micro bikini people were on display but in a very comfortable environment. For the pool and beach I wore my 10 inch flare microskirt as a coverup. Quick and easy on and off. Adjust up or down for more or less butt crease reveal. It was the smallest coverup of anyone staying at the hotel. So the National Hotel is definitely minimal swimwear and topless friendly. The quality of the amenities, service, clientele, and surroundings make this an excellent place to stay.

@jefferski I wore mostly g-strings and small bikinis of varying sheerness. We went out back gate down to hotel beach with same attire. Mrs. was TNT or TNG at pool and beach. We moved around resort like we owned the place. I was only guy. We generally wore shorts or cover-ups from room to pool, but I don't think you'd have to. Dressed up for dinner in restaurant. As it's "adults-only," we definitely got the vibe that pretty much anything short of hedonistic bacchanalism would probably be allowed. YMMV, but if you're courteous, and not obnoxious, you're probably OK.

The only comments we got from the staff were affirming our creativity in wearing matching g-strings. They couldn't care less. The Staff was 100% hugely accommodating in setting up our cabana and bringing us food and drinks as quickly as they could. Huge kudos to The National staff. We were already disrobed and in the pool before Mrs. realized she didn't have any sunglasses. Gave a couple $20's to the pool guy, and he ran across the street and bought her a very nice pair. Totally above and beyond. Can't say enough great things about staff. We had been drinking a certain beverage all day at the pool. When we went to dinner, as soon as our butts hit the chair, the hostess hit us with 2 of those beverages. The pool manager had relayed our preferences to the restaurant manager, and our drinks were waiting on us. THAT'S service. Great staff.

Been staying at The Standard hotel all week and have a couple more days to go. Definitely have seen more topless women during the day when I get back from the beach in mid afternoon along with 5-10 thongs on ladies. No thongs seen on guys but a speedo here and there. After midnight anything goes. No problem skinny dipping till datlight regardless whether other guests or the cleaning crew is there. I saw one couple the guy was nude but his girl was wearing a full swim suit. Then last night I saw another couple the girl was nude but the guy was wearing a suit. However I think the guy slipped his suit down at one point. After a long make out session they were screwing. Heard the girl moan like three times then they left right after, lol.

I haven't seen any security cameras around the pool or hot tub. I looked pretty good, if they have them then they are hidden. Security comes thru once around 2am +/-. Last trip I accidently walked right past him nude coming out of the hot tub. Didn't see him walking around the corner but nothing was said.

Good quote from the Standard Hotel review: Needless to say, I was topless the whole time. Over the days, I noticed more and more women baring their nips in favor of a more even tan. While I was making my way to my favorite aquatic amenity, a deck that leads straight into the ocean, a girl came up to me and said, gesturing to her boobs, “You inspired me and now I’m letting it all hang out.”

Staying at the S!andard hotel for five nights. When I checked in late Sunday afternoon the pool was packed but no topless ladies. There were 5 guys in speedos and a fair % of women in thongs. After some evening rest I went down to the pool around 1:30am, there was a naked guy with someone else in the pool. Couldn't tell if his companion was a guy or girl, nor could I assess their state of attire. They left immediately after I arrived. Not sure why as I took my robe off and walked nude to the hot tub. So far no issues skinny dipping overnight.

Stayed at the Dream Hotel - 13th and Collins ( Hyatt Property) last spring and going back in January for 4 days prior to a 10 day cruise. Both wife and I wore g-strings (mesh) at the beach at 13th street and at the hotel pool. Absolutely no issues. The female bartenders loved seeing me in my Tangaland yellow micro mesh g-string and even got some pics. Wife got a number of comments from guys (and even ones with their wives) as well as a couple of ladies asked my wife for the names of her suit manufacturers - Dubio as well as Wicked Weasel and Tangaland. Enjoy and work on the tan lines.

Well it looks like one of the few TNT hotel pools is safe from redevelopment! For once a Fla HOA did something useful! The Standard Hotel and Spa proposed rezoning to build condo towers has been defeated. The pool and restaurant and some hotel were to be preserved but the condos, shadows and large population would have ruined the vibe of the pool. It's already lost the outdoor dockside nude mud bath area to another bar. In my opinion Barry could deploy his funds in better places anyway. The condos would have had great views but the traffic flow in and out of there would have devalued the location. https://worldredeye.com/2025/10/wre-news-rezoning-push-for-the-standard-miami-beach-comes-to-a-halt/

Re:HOTELS in South Beach , Miami Beach, SOBE

I returned this past summer and had the same great time as last year. One of the hotel managers (the guys dressed in suit pants and jacket) remembered me from last year, greeted me warmly, and made it clear he was glad I had returned. He made sure I got plenty of attentive service.  The hotel clientele wasn't much of a minimal swimwear crowd. Mostly an older shirt and shorts crowd for men. Still, if people come to South Beach and to an adult only hotel, they should expect to see some skimpy swimwear and clothing. I don't disappoint. I had the smallest suits of anyone at the hotel or on the beach.

Every day I got to the pool early and picked out a spot right in the middle of the lounge chairs, right next to the bar, with lots of people walking past me. I frequently got up to walk around, going pack and forth from the pools and to get drinks. No issues. All the pool staff made me feel welcome. They set the mood to being chill and accepting of everyone.

At the pool and beach I wore many of my teardrop g-strings. Though tiny, they do cover the essentials, have a visible waist string, and do not bulge or flop around. Because they taper to a point at the waist string you have to point down. It takes some maneuvering to stuff everything in, but once there stays in place. I go for a rear y-string look to keep things tight in front and have a better rear view because the waist string curves over the butt cheeks.  I got one suit with a tiny triangle at the top of the back string. Triangles seem popular with women, even for what would otherwise be a g-string with just strings. Maybe more of a comfort zone to have something there, like when viewed from a distance. The triangle does help keep things in place. It does look good.

Like many of you on this forum, I've got way too many swimsuits. So I brought a bunch of g-strings with me and wore several different ones each day. Absolutely no negative reactions. No one at the hotel, employees or other guests, made any comment about what I was wearing as I walked around without a care. Not even a second look. Complete acceptance. Like I was invisible. This is what we hope for.

The mix of swimwear was different at the hotel pools every day. Overall, maybe a third 5o half of women's suits had some amount of cheekiness. On some days I saw as few as 2 or 3 thongs or near thongs, and up to maybe 10 on other days when it was busier. A couple of good looking one piece thongs. Ten g-strings, and two were tiny. During the first week I observed some topless sunbathing, but not common. One woman topless at the pool, another toward the back of the rows of lounge chairs, and one out at the hotel beach chairs. Those women attracted no attention. Complete acceptance, like it was expected.
In the next week, one afternoon a crowd of two dozen middle aged people showed up. Most of them went into the smaller pool. First one, then another, and another, and finally seven women in that group went topless, two in thongs and the rest with ckeekies. They walked freely around without a care, and they attracted no attention. The hotel staff interacted with them like it was no concern. They walked from the hotel to the beach and back topless and with no coverups.

The next morning three women from that group returned to the pool and quickly went topless. They walked around interacting with other guests and with staff. No issues. The hotel manager told me the group had booked a stay for a day and a half prior to going on a cruise. They definitely were taking advantage of all the hotel amenities. I'd like to think I was an influencer, because soon after they arrived and got in the pool I walked past them in full view with my tiny g-string.  Later than day two young women began to set up in the chairs in front of me, in a heavy traffic area. One had a thong bottom and the other a g-string. They walked around a lot, like on a fashion runway.

The trend to see-through coverups continued. About 1 in 3 women. I joined in. I had mesh short shorts and a fishnet miniskirt for coverups at the pool.
Over one week a majority of men were in street wear and not swimming or tanning at all. The rest of the men had trunks, a few up to mid-thigh. No board shorts at all. I saw four brazilian sungas, halfway between a bikini and a squarecut. Just one bikini per day, except for one day when I spotted five. No thongs on men at the hotel. The next week there was a younger crowd, but no bikinis.

So the National Hotel is still an excellent destination for minimal swimwear. Everyone is made to feel welcome, regardless of what they wear. No issues at all. I wish more places could be like this.

The reconstruction plan for The Standard was aborted a few months ago after pushback from the public. https://traded.co/blog/sternlicht-led-team-withdraws-rezoning-request-for-standard-miami-beach-hotel/ https://worldredeye.com/2025/10/wre-news-rezoning-push-for-the-standard-miami-beach-comes-to-a-halt/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CXvMMB7Zt/

Has anyone been to the Kenmore Village Hotel in SOBE? It looks like it gets mixed reviews on Tripadvisor. It used to be called the Sonder. It has just gone through renovations. It's on the corner of Washington Ave and 11 St. Two blocks away from the beach. It's about $210 a night. I plan on wearing my small thongs and g-strings. I have one SWW tangaland suit. If I'm staying in SoBe should I get to Haulover for a day? I'm going to visit my brother in Melbourne who's getting back surgery. After being with him for a week I plan to go to Miami on the 28th of this month and just stay for a few days. My wife who is still working is staying home. So I don't really need a big room or the expense.

I'd check out some of the bad Tripadviser reviews before booking there: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34439-d557848-Reviews-Kenmore_Village_Hotel-Miami_Beach_Florida.html

For those visiting Sobe with a car- you could save money and stay at the Collins Hotel for about half that amount--- on 65th st. and drive to the beach- parking is $2-3/hr so saving hundreds per night on the hotel pays for that! The beach at 65th is very thongable. See thread on "miami beach" rather than southbeach. When staying on Southbeach I always look for a hotel with a pool open late.
