Has anyone out there stayed at Hawksbill Resort on Antigua?www.hawksbill.comFrom their website, it sounds fantastic -- moderately priced, and with a secluded clothing optional beach. I love to go skinny dipping, and I love to get an overall tan in my very small g-string. My wife if very negative on nudism -- I guess she doesn't want other women to see me naked -- but does tolerate my thonging. At Hawksbill, I figure I can get a nice long early morning swim in the buff before others are out on the c.o. beach, then later in the day go sunning there in the g-string. Using the other beaches for watersports, etc., I figure my tan-thru 2" racer will do fine, and neither my wife nor anyone else will be scandalized. What I'd like to know is the mood of the resortso I can sell the idea to my wife (I'll be paying!). I don't need or want a HedonismIII-type place, but rather a very mainstream type of resort, where the existence of a c.o. beach is just incidental, and not the reason most folks have chosen to go there. From what little I've heard, only a few people actually use the c.o. beach, so it sounds like an okay place for us. I'm hoping I can even convince my wife to join me as I sun on the beach, so she'll see that a nude beach is really no big deal, and that decent people go there, and maybe she'll even loosen up to the point of not objecting if I strip all the way in the midday sun! Thanks for your feedback. You should think about any of the resorts on Orient Beach on St. Martin: St Tropez, Alamanda, Palm Court or Esmerelda.  You can get good prices out of Bradley International on expedia.com by checking "flight and hotel", then browsing for places on Orient Beach.

Orient is known as the primo nude beach in the Caribbean but most of the nudity happens at the southern end where Club Orient (clothing optional resort) is located.  The rest of the 1.7 mile long beach is pretty much topless and more with a few nudes here and there.   These more conventional dress code resorts are clustered approximately in the middle of the long beach.  One piece, thong, g-string or nude, noone gives it a second thought on Orient Beach.  A thong/g-string walk from any of these resorts to the beach is completely routine.

On Orient you have the added benefit of being able to stroll down (up for us - we are staying at Club Orient) to a number of beachside restaurants where topless, thong, g-string etc. are not given a second thought.    There are a few small shops along the beach where pretty much anything or nothing goes as well.  It's a way to experience total freedom for a week.  A few of these places don't mind nude but something, though not very much, is generally the norm in this area.

It's a great feeling being competely unconcerned and uninhibited:  Clad in nothing but a deep Caribbean and a miniscule g-string casually browsing in one of the shops beside the Hawaiian t-shirt, Bermuda short, black sock cruise ship idiots visiting for the day.

Have a good trip, nomatter where you end up.

We went last November. We got a deal as they were still renovating. Some highlights: - Really nice, swimmable beach directly out the front door of their beach bungalows. - Naturalist beach is amazing, but there's nothing on it for services and just a few scattered, mostly broken, plastic lounge chairs. - Crowd is mostly stereotypical British 60+ in age. I wore briefs and my wife wore a thong. As a guy I didn't feel comfortable in something less but the briefs didn't cause a stir. I did wear a thong on the clothing optional beach every day comfortably. - All inclusive, but its just plastic-bottle no-name rum and fruit juice mixed drinks, or Carib. Basic breakfast buffet, Burgers for lunch, buffet style dinner. Nothing fancy. I thought it was fine but if you vacation for food this is not that. - New infinity pool was quite nice. - Free use of stand up paddle boards, kayaks, and hobie cats. We ventured out around the island just one day. It's like much of the Caribbean: super white-washed beach stuff, impoverished elsewhere. In all, it was a fun trip, but I probably would just go to St. Martin next time I want to go to the Caribbean.

Thanks, WearsThongs, for a quick, informative update. Living in SW Florida, it’s always good to get recent reviews as the Caribbean is often a quick jump away.

Thanks @wearsthongs We made reservations for April for the Garden Bungalows. I was going for the Beach Bungalow but couldn't get the wife to sign off on the extra cost. We plan on spending most of our time nude on the Eden beach but I'll probably do a thong on the other beach and in/around the cabin. One question though. All beaches in Antigua are public but I'm wondering how many non-resort people use the beaches there.. especially Eden beach. Given it's the only clothes optional beach on the whole island I'm guessing there will be a few non-resort people there. Not that I shy about being seen nude.. just curious that's all. Yeah I know what you mean about the plastic bottle alcohol. The only place we got top shelf stuff was Couples Negril, in Jamaica. And food is up there on the list, it isn't as important as the relaxation and beach time. Thanks for taking the time to post. I'll write up a review after we get back home.

FWIW, 3 years ago I rented a cottage from a local lady which was fairly close to Hawksbill (maybe 10 minutes by car from the resort).  My wife and I went to the public parking area at the first beach zone which has an entrance about 100' away from the gatehouse to enter the actual resort by vehicle.  In Antigua, as noted, all beaches are considered public, so we had no issue venturing the walk to Fourth Beach (as the locals call it - Eden Beach to the tourist crowd), if you go through the gatehouse, no problem entering but you have to register.  We avoided that to a large degree by walking along the beach until we got to the windmill/gift shop past the beach bungalows, then hitting the walkways up past Third Beach (I think I heard it referred to as "Honeymoon Beach), then further up the dirt pathway through the gate to Eden Beach.

In three visits, several hours each, I only saw resort folks at Eden Beach - that is, nobody was carrying any sort of bag with clothing, just a couple of towels draped over their arm - just like my wife and I had.  When we visited, and again this was a few years ago, there were quite a few beach loungers available, and they all seemed in pretty decent shape.  Everybody pretty well kept to themselves, whether there as a single (a couple of men AND a couple of ladies), or paired up couple, no commotion, no lurkers, nobody with apparent cameras.  I've heard that in the past, a few cruise-ship types would come over and refuse to put the cameras away, with consequences for the cameras going into the water - but this is anecdotal and certainly I never saw this type of action.  Wouldn't blame the beach goers if it did happen, though - ya gotta have respect.

I've considered going back and actually staying at Hawksbill, but the resort as such looked kind of tired - but it seems they just finished a big reno as of last year, so maybe I'll start checking reviews again.

Thanks thonggbott! Like I said I was just curious if the beach was used by people staying off-resort. And, "forth beach" instead of Eden.. I'll have to remember that one! I saw some youtube from pre-refurb and the resort was looking tired. A few short clips I've seen since they finished (Nov 2023) look pretty good. My wife and I went tent camping at a Florida nudist resort for our honeymoon so we're not really bothered if the place isn't 4 star.. as long as it's clean. Thanks again and I'll post a review here after our holiday in April
