I'm not sure I have great advice, but there are gentle ways to broach the topic. You could simply ask "what do you think about people wearing thongs at the beach these days". Her response to that will give you a lot of information. The other thing I'll say is this. Is your sense of fashion outside of normal beachwear just typical menswear? Is there anything about your personality or style that conveys a sense of free spiritedness or non-comformity? If your day to day appearance and behavior is entirely conventional then it stands to reason that you're going to draw in conventional people. Finding a woman in her 30's or 40's (sorry, I'm guessing at your age) willing to rock a thong is totally possible, but you're looking for a rare breed.

@bonzo68 - I think one observation from girls is that they don’t like guys going straight to destination. Probably best to just get to know her first. Try a soft date such as inviting her for a drink, lunch, walk meeting up somewhere. Try to get to know her a little and see where the chat goes. Life is complicated but if you click you should be able to guage what stuff to talk about, things she likes etc. The big issue for you probably isnt one for her whether she likes or doesn’t. Talk about holidays and it should become clear how she feels. Every time we talk beach holiday destinations with friends it inevitably comes up that such a place was nice but there were nudists / nudist beach there. Most are negative (guys don’t say much about that….). We say nothing as my OH knows I’ll be naked most holidays or at most a very small bikini. Most friends and family know I wear ‘speedos’. Which is about all we admit to. Best not to get too caught up with your swimwear choices and see how you get on. Just my thoughts.

@tiggerix - excellent advice. To bring up minimal swimwear choice at an early stage would appear a bit creepy & therefor off-putting in my opinion.

Make it about tanning as opposed to thong wearing or nudism. You can argue you enjoy maximum exposure tanning. Explain how exhilarating it is for the hot sun to touch your skin. The places you engage in tanning are exclusive and appropriate for said activities to the point that wearing anything else is foolish... do you understand?

To all, I agree bringing this up early or as a specific talking point would be off putting. This obviously would not the only topic on my mind. I am simply musing as to when the opportunity would present itself. I really like GuestGuest's response where the topic could be about tanning and not about swimsuit choices. It took me years to become comfortable in my own skin. As I get older, I realize all the negative thoughts are in other people's heads and not mine. I have had full body waxes, I frequent tanning salons and wear nothing (not a stretch there), I get full body massages and wear nothing. I go to pools, beaches, and resorts alone and wear the smallest allowed swimsuit, if one is required. :) I also have shown some women that I am wearing a thong and their eyes widened and all sorts of questions are asked. @AnonUser30, I am in my early 60's. I realize finding a liberated woman in her 30's and 40's is a rare breed. Finding someone in her 50's and 60's is an even rarer breed. But there is always hope.

Does women need to tell or justify what type of underwear or swimwear they wear ? NO. So, if you consider that a thong is normal : don't ask, don't tell ! And if you consider that a thong is a weird thing, you may wait 2 or 3 months to tell about. It is like vanilla / wild sex. If you are not totally vanilla, you don't reveal all on the first date. I consider that a thong is so normal that I don't need to tell about. And very few people needed to tell me about it. And if someone needed to tell me about my thong, I will reverse the question : "why do you need to tell me about my thong whereas you didn't make comments about women in thongs ? Are you for gender discrimination or double standard ?" Seriously, at 60 y.o., I hope that women don't make criteria on men's underwear. There are much more important criteria.

Normally, when you are on a first date, you talk about general interests and hobbies. If you already have a clear tan, then I think it is alright for you to bring up tanning. I have been on a few dates this year, but I haven't had much luck. Now that I am in my 30s, I want to settle down and get married, but the girls I met earlier this year were not wifey material. That's why I hope to meet someone from my church. Here is the thing, though. I don't know how open minded church girls are, and I am worried that my thong wearing could be a deal breaker for them. I might have to keep my thong wearing a secret until I tie the knot. Also if possible, I would like to meet a thong wearing woman, but how am I to know that on the first few dates? It is not a deal breaker if a woman I like is not into thongs, but I just think that a thong wearing woman would support my underwear choice and be accepting of my thong wearing. How should I approach this? Am I thinking too much?

I don't think that women have a criteria on men's underwear when they are looking for an husband / a father for their future children. Women have a lot of criteria. But I have never read that the type of underwear is one of them.

bonzo68, Some interesting answers above. I am of a similar age, mid 60's and have had various relationships over the years. My experence has been the more I thong openly and publicly the more I don't have to worry about broaching the subject because they already know. Someone else has already told them the good, bad and interesting about me. Also, the SOONER the better. That way it is just one facet of the jem stone of personality and not like a secretly hidden skeleton in the closet. When ore people know the less you have to say and explain yourself - they already know - they either saw you or heard about you from someone else. Don't present thonging as a flaw, like your father was a serial rapist: Instead as one of the colors of your sparkling personality. Show thonging of as your maturity and bravery - maturity and bravery because you are self confident and not scared of what others think. Women LOVE men with a secure inner self confidence. Use it to display your quiet mental stability and strength. One thing that women, especially odder women are looking for is honesty and openness. They are done with the bullshit, game playing, narcissistic guys who hide their flaws and only present their best selves. They realize life is getting shorter, no time for games. Same should be true for you too. The more up front and direct you are the better. Be that direct with yourself too. Life is too short for beating around the bush. Same for you. You don't want to become the manipulated pawn of some narcissist, only presenting to the world what makes them look better. You know that question they ask in job interviews "

Indeed interesting answers. Here's my take. "Just talk" and see how open minded she is. And I specifically say "open minded" because I've met women who say they are conservative and are refreshingly open minded, and I've met women who say they are liberal and are surprisingly closed minded. By open minded, one of the things that would relate to thonging is not having rigid clothing, behavioral, or roles based on one's sex. I've dated or been friends with women that *claimed* to be liberal and open minded, yet the briefest men's swimwear they found acceptable is boxer style board shorts and I've dated or been friends with women claiming to be conservative that had no problem with men wearing skimpy swimwear or even couldn't wait to go to the pool or beach to see me in a thong. One of my previous female friends who claimed to be conservative loved for me to accompany her to her apartment complex pool and sunbathe with her wearing my skimpiest teardrop g-string. (Unfortunately she had to move due to her job) Personally, I wouldn't jump right into the whole thong discussion until you get a vibe for how open minded she is. If she indicates she believes in regimented gender roles, she'll probably have a problem with men wearing thongs. You might "wade into" testing the thong attitude when discussion gets into what you like to do for recreation or relaxing. Maybe casually mention you like sunbathing; if she likes to sunbathe, especially if she's enthusiastic about sunbathing, then maybe you can drop a comment something like that you like to have a complete tan as possible. Additionally, if the woman has "body issues", no matter how good looking or slender she is, she's most likely not going to want to sunbathe or swim with a guy wearing small swimwear. Good luck.

I thank each person for their respective response so far. It seems I have brought up an interesting, thought-provoking topic. I will definitely take all suggestions into consideration. I like the "wanting to get a maximum suntan" idea the best. I also agree that older women don't have time to put up with BS. Cut to the chase, while being respectful seems to be a good idea.

When it comes to wearing thongs or G-strings, a lot of people worry about how to “break the news” to friends and family. But here’s the truth—you don’t need to make some big announcement. It’s not something you need permission for, nor do you need to seek approval. It’s clothing, like any other swimsuit or underwear. I’ve never felt the need to sit anyone down and tell them, “Hey, I wear thongs.” Instead, I’ve just worn them like I would board shorts—no drama, no explanation. Over time, everyone around me caught on. Now, my friends and family know that I wear G-strings and thongs, and no one bats an eye. The same goes for when we’re with our nudist friends—being nude is just normal in that setting. Wearing what makes you comfortable and confident is what really matters. My advice? Just wear it. If someone notices, they might ask out of curiosity, but most people will take your confidence as a sign that it’s not a big deal. The more natural you are about it, the less anyone else will think twice. At the end of the day, it’s your life and your choice. Don’t waste time waiting for approval—just be yourself and enjoy it!

Nude2020 has it spot on. I don't feel the need to tell anyone that I like to wear thongs. Also, I don't know what undies my friends are wearing, and they don't know what I am wearing under my clothes. I have been very care-free with my clothes lately. I don't wear a belt, and I wear thin fleece or jogger pants these days. Since the pants I wear are thin, my underwear does show through the fabric. So far, no one has mentioned anything about my underwear showing through my trousers. If you really feel the urge to tell your friends and family, just have a waldrobe malfunction and let the conversation come to you. I am still waiting for my friends to tell me that my thong is visible through my pants.

My wife is the one who usually is telling family and friends that I’m going to be out there in a bikini or thong. It may not even be a situation in which anybody’s going swimming, but somehow he brings that in the conversation. I usually don’t mind and lots of people know because of her discussing that, but it does soften the impact or reaction when they see me. This just happened the last week when we were with my wife’s family, and rented a lake house in Kentucky (6 of us total with others dropping in) Her brother-in-law had seen me before in both bikinis and a thong at other times, one cousin had seen me a couple times too and a bikini. But my wife’s other cousin who was recently remarried for a couple of years had not. I don’t think it knew much about it. But not surprisingly, my wife had brought up in conversation somehow the night before while we were on the back deck. My one cousin thought it wasn’t true I guess but got to see for himself the next day. While I was working downstairs in the basement for a few hours, I overheard my wife talking to my cousin’s wife and of course, telling her not to be surprised if she sees me later in the day in a thong. They discussed it and both were very supportive of that and the wife commented that both women can do it, why shouldn’t men. Has been thinking about as noon time came about, it was time to get out on the lake on my SUP. I chose a normal coverage thong for me anyway, not too much in the front and a normal thong back. It was my light purple one that has the appearance of glitter on it. It was pretty sunny day so it had the right effect. The two girls and I walked down to the talk as they were going to float on their air mattresses. I get out on the dock, shed my shorts and get on my board. My wife took a couple pictures of me as I was leaving and they both waved me goodbye. I was out for close to two hours and did at least 5 miles before getting back. By this time, my cousin was also down on the float and joined his wife. So when I rolled up, heading back to the dock, he was quite surprised and expressing that over and over. He didn’t believe it! I paddled around for a couple minutes and chatted. I was all smiles and saying “yes, you were told that I would!” It was all good fun! I put up my board and then join them on one of the floats and drink a few beers! A very enjoyable day with a few laughs by All! The next time around a couple of days later, when I went down to the dock with my cousin and brother-in-law to go paddle boarding, when I drop my shorts and got on the board and left out that didn’t say a word. For other times during the trip, I wore my smaller, half-back bikinis while out on the pontoon boat that we got for a couple days.

I have so many suits, including square cuts, briefs, thongs, and g-strings, I have always thought about taking them all to different venues and sharing them with other guys who have been apprehensive to wear thongs and g-strings. You may be asking why I have square cuts and briefs. It's because I live in a very conservative part of the country and I need to be cognizant of the rules at each venue. I try to wear the smallest "permissible" suit without violating any rules or laws. It is very ironic that I live only a couple hundred yards from the local community pool. At this location, I wouldn't dare wear anything less than a square cut. The pool is rather small with no space to be away from the families with children. Because of this I wouldn't wear a swim brief, as much as I would like to. I wear swim briefs at a pool in a nearby state park where thongs are not permitted. Has anyone ever thought about selling thongs and g-strings on the beach, like from a food cart or chair/lounge/umbrella rental place? I think it would go over well for those who did not bring a minimal suit, but secretly wish they had, after they see how many people are now wearing thongs and g-strings on all the beaches around the country. I have always thought about retiring to Florida, buying a food truck, and selling hot dogs and snow cones, all while wearing a thong.

Before there was lunch food downtown Fort Lauderdale the only place for a quick bite was the hotdog carts outside the court house. Manned by women in thong bikinis. It was amusing to see the lawyers, judges, defendants and jurors all lined up to get their hotdog or hamburger.

Unfortunately, at one stage back in the late 80's we had a moralizing bible thumping vice-mayor called Doug Danzige, who ran all the strip clubs out of town, shut down Spring Break and banished the thong bikini hot dog girls. (See my today's post in the Fort Lauderdale thread about how that all went down.)

The new trend in the last decade is food trucks. We already have food trucks selling snow cones on Haulover nude beach. There are many small beach front bars in the Caribbean where you could work in a thong. Go for it.

When I travel I always have a wide selection of swimsuits. You never know what mood I will be up for style or what color. One time I ordered a few extra ones in various sizes to have them available to offer the group I was with. Only one time did a friend of ours take me up on it while in their hot tub and pool. He wore it for a while but ended up getting naked so I joined him, the wives didn’t though. I regularly offer them to others that I am with.

The more I read about how hot tubs, and the chlorine, destroys delicate swimsuits, the more I am inclined to go au naturel, when appropriate, of course. I have a small fortune invested in the many suits I have, and some are no longer available. I would hate to ruin a lot of suits by wearing them in hot tubs. I hope to have an opportunity to purchase a house with a swimming pool, whose former owners were well-known naturists. The couple is now deceased, and the home is now sitting vacant. I have already inquired about the house, but no decision has been made yet by the children. The pool is surrounded by an 8-foot privacy fence and definitely allows for private sunbathing. It would be the perfect retreat as I head into retirement in a few years. Time will tell if the house would go up for sale. If I were to actually buy the home, I may have to slowly reveal my desire to wear thongs and g-strings, or even say I am a naturist, to more people. I may have to post a warning sign, like what is posted at the entrance to nude beaches. :)

Bonzo, perhaps see if the heirs might be interested in a rent to own proposal. That way the house would not be vacant while the estate is being settled and you get to enjoy your freedom. It does have some financial risk to you as these schemes sometimes go awry. Perhaps the reason that the house isn't sold is because some of the heirs are also thongers/nudies and don't want to lose their oasis.

Re:How to tell friends or family

@Martylouie, That is a great idea I did not think about. However, the deceased couple and heirs were/are successful local business owners who are probably not in any hurry to sell the homestead. As far as I know, the children are not as avid naturists as their parents were. I think I need to gently broach the subject again to make sure they are still aware of my potential interest. I would hate to see the home go up for sale and I miss the opportunity. The mother only passed away this past winter and the father passed away a few years ago. On a side note, a former co-worker of mine lives right across the street from this house. He had told me the wife had no qualms whatsoever, answering the front door, in the buff, to accept deliveries from UPS, FedEx, etc. As stated previously, it was well known amongst the community that they thoroughly enjoyed the naturist lifestyle.

Sandersben: well if it's uncomfortable than wear shorts around family. My sister never "came out" telling us she wore thong swimsuits. You could always order a new one and on the next meeting be excited for your new swimsuit and show her (not wearing it) and ask her opinion, "too much? I do like this style though and want to try it"

I don't blatantly tell my friends that I wear thongs; I just give them subtle hints. The other day, a female friend of mine was wearing white linen pants, and I told her that I also had something similar. When the conversation turned to underwear lines, I mentioned that I can't wear boxers or briefs because they show through the fabric. She then suggested that I wear grey or nude colour underwear.

Re:How to tell friends or family

I’ve commented before that my wife seems to love bringing up in conversations with friends and family that I wear thong swimwear. I do believe she enjoys that I do as she has been very supportive of me wearing them. There’s been a few occasions in which she might ask me to be a little bit more conservative in what I wear depending on the situation, but that has been very limited. On a recent trip down to Florida to visit potential new residences, we stayed with my wife’s cousin and his wife for a few days. They both got the opportunity to see me last year at Kentucky Lake wearing both thongs and bikinis. His wife certainly enjoyed it and we all had fun, even though my wife’s cousin tries to look away and give me grief in a fun way. We all just roll along with it. This year when we were visiting, the cousin’s wife had her daughter in for the evening to join us for dinner on a Friday night. We also had my cousin’s son and his wife that had just arrived in from out of state. We had dinner and cocktails among other drinks, and during the early part of the evening again it was my wife who brought up the subject of me wearing thongs as I did earlier that day out at the beach. At that point, everybody was there and I was mixing drinks. During the chitchat and my comments that you just go out and do what you feel comfortable with, and I’m definitely comfortable in public settings all around. There were comments all around, but the one that I enjoyed the most was made by the wife of the couple that had just arrived from out of state and they’re probably about 32 year old professionals. The wife made the comment twice during the night of “that’s impressive!” Apparently the subject came up a couple times that evening. It’s normally not me that brings it up but once it’s out of the bag, it’s fair game for anybody to throw a comment in here and there. It’s all in good fun and we definitely had it that night. I think there is even a short show and tell to give everybody a view of what we were all talking about.
