Hi Everyone,I see lots of guys talking about wearing thongs in public but my personal experience shows otherwise. I often wear thong swimsuits but am always the only one, I see women in thongs but never men.

On Treasure Island in Fiji, I was the only male in a thong. I didn't see any women in thongs either so this may be an area most people don't thong in (except me I guess).
In Tahiti, I was at Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahine, and Tahaa. Again, I was the only male in a thong but in this case I saw lots of women in thongs also. In Playa Del Carmen, there were a significant number of women wearing thongs (I couldn't even venture to give an estimate) and again I was the only male in a thong.

I live in Northern California and have been to the Delta and numerous lakes and see an occasional female in a thong but never a male, just me. So can someone tell me what's up with all this talk.I find it interesting that there are so many people who talk about wearing thong swimsuits in public but you really don't see them anywhere. It's not like I lead a sheltered life, give me a break, with the number of countries I go to, the number of lakes I boat on, and the extensive water ways of the delta in Northern CA, you would think I would have seen one other male wearing a thong swimsuit in nine years and I have not.

It appears to me that this is all talk from other males and they don't do half of what they say they do. I also find it interesting that you really see very few females in the U.S. that wear thongs also. 99% of the thongs I see (of course this is women in thongs since I never see a male in a thong) are outside the U.S. I feel as if there are 10 males in the world that wear thong swimsuits in public and I'm the only one in the U.S. What am I missing here?Jerry

Jerry, I have had the same experience over the years. Olive and I go to Key West every year adn have for 11 years now, in all that time I have seen 4 other male thongers and all of those have been after I (and Olive of course) showed up in a thong. We also sail on lake Champlaing here in Vt where there's a large French-Canadian presence. I have never seen a single man in a thong, although we've seen lot's of ladies. If you read the letters here, most guys are looking for a place where they won't be the only one and since apparently nobody except a few are willing to go first, nobody dares try it. I agree that there are more talkers than real thongers, but i've posted some photos to show youi're not completely alone. http://ww3.voyeurweb.com/main/fse32/fs20030726-41695/index.html
Keep thonging Jerry, you're not completely alone. all you guys that want to thong, go ahead. Sure you'll get some looks and maybea few comments, but you'll be thrilled with yourself and you'll find the swimming nd tanning experience to be much better. Popeye

Well, I've never even seen a woman in a thong (on the beach) but that has something to do with the beach I go to, no doubt, though a fair number of bottoms came close to being thongs. Rios, I guess they were. As for myself (a guy), I have only worn them very discreetly in the early morning, on my own deck or on almost deserted beaches where you could just as well wear nothing at all. In fact, that's what others usually did.

So, there is the irony. Of the beaches I go to, a thong is problematic where bathing suits are required and silly where they aren't. Only being naked isn't legal anywhere there and a thong is. Therefore the thong is what I use on those remote beaches where the law has very big binoculars. I am speaking only of beaches in the Outer Banks of North Carolina which includes about 100 miles of ocean beaches at least.

My early morning discreet wearing has consisted of long walks just as the sun was coming up and sunbathing later until too many people have showed up. I have not done this often (don't get to the beach that much) but haven't had any trouble and I don't push it. Besides, I don't care to be out in the sun in the middle of the day either.

Thongers on the beach are for real !  I am out there about 3 days a week, that's 150 days a year.

I will be on Fort Lauderdale beach again tomorrow morning, running in a thong. Will lots of people see me ? If it is raining like Wednesday then probably only 50 people will notice me. I will be running the quite end of the beach, towards the port. (Only doing 3 miles because I am still recovering from bashing a leg in a Turkish river gorge.)

Thongers on the beach are for real ! I am out there about 3 days a week that?/FONT>? 150 days a year. But each day I am only out for an hour or two. So given the number of daylight hours in a year you only have less than a one in 10 chance of seeing me if you turn up on my beach. Then realize that I am out running in a thong in the early mornings, and 1 out of 10 people don?/FONT>? get to the beach until after I'm done running, and you now stand a 1 in 100 chance of spotting me !

When I am back up to speed, I will be doing at least 5 to 8 miles on the sand three days a week. That means going past the main beach and hotels twice, once up and once back. If it is sunny then hundreds of people will glance my way. Will I see girls in thongs. Probably a dozen or so, most arriving to take the sun as I am getting ready to finish. Will I see other guys in a thong ? Some times yes, some times no.

If I go back at 10:30 or 11 and then peddle my bike up the length of the main beach then I will probably see at least a couple of guys in thongs. The funny thing is because unless they are congregating behind the dunes at the north end, (gay pickup zone #2), they will probably not notice other men in thongs. This is because I have a T-shirt on and am riding a bike, so they will not see me, and they are individually spread out so they may, or may not, notice other guys on the beach.

I suspect that on a day when I see as many as eight men in thongs, when traveling the length of the beach, each man will probably report only sighting one other man. This is because although they can see ships on the horizon three miles out they probably can't see another thonger lying on the beach more than a couple of hundred yards away. Given that thongs are ok on all of the three miles of beach the density at any one spot is probably low. We don't have thong getos where thongers have to congregate behind the ropes....

So think of it this way. You may be a member of the Green party and you know that for every 100 people there are 3 who are also Green party members. You never see them on TV, or at the beach, unless there is no news and some talking head, who knows nothing, makes stupid coments about them.

Yes Jerry, there seem to be only a few of us.  I wear thongs all day in Martinique and on St. Barts, there are lots of simiarly-clad women but very very few men.  At home in No Cal, I have never seen a man in a thong at Santa Cruz.  I refuse to give in to dork shorts.  My wife and I are about to try South Beach, so check on my report during late September.  Do not give up, I won't.

I'm pretty persistent. In December I'm off to Roatan Honduras, where someone in another thread mentioned they were able to wear a thong. So far, in my opinion, it appears to me that places more frequented by Europeans are more thong friendly so I tend to vacation more outside of the US. At one time California was a very liberal state, it now seems to be ultra conservative and many areas in Northern have laws to prohibit wearing thongs. I have done some research and it appears the state park/recreation system is the best place to thong. Based on the Cahill decision, if you're wearing a thong (or nude for that matter) and you are asked to cover up, as long as you do it for one day, you will not be hastled. Strange but interesting twist to what has become a conservative California.

I also find it interesting that numerous people have read my messages about thonging in Northern California but few have commented. Must be a situation of people being curious but not taking any action. Based on what I've seen posted on this board, it seems to me that Florida is now becomming the Liberal state while California keeps slipping into conservatism. Maybe in a few years no one in California will be able to show any skin above the ankles, wasn't that called the Victorian Age

I'm not sure about the other states, but I'm convinced part of the problem in California is the population is about a billion pounds overweight. Everytime I return to California from other countries, I notice it more and more. It is probably a 20 to 1 ratio of overweight to fit people in California and the majority doesn't want anything to highlight that point. Minimal swimwear really doesn't look to good on someone who looks like there ready to pop out of their skin. Maybe the solution to getting thongs more widely accepted is to start a statewide diet campaign and hopefully, soon afterwards, peoples attitudes will begin to change.

Keep in mind the relatively small population of passionate (obsessive) male thongers (or as you suggest alleged thongers) that frequent this site in comparison to the whole world meat-head male population. The odds are great that unless your at one of those holy grail of beaches like Venice or South Beach, you may well never see another male thonger! I would also add that many of us don't necessarily "lay-out" in the main crowded section of the beach (immediately adjacent to the public parking lot) Most of us are fit and active and have no problems hiking an extra hundred yards or even a mile to find a more secluded area of beach.

Here in San Diego I can say there are a few male thongers out there. I skate on the boardwalk regularly, which allows a quick scan of a pretty long section of beach. I can kind of get an inventory of how many and where the thongs are on any given day. Some days I have actually seen more male thongers than female. I seems that while (visible) thong underwear is very popular for women, thong swimsuits have kind of gone out of vogue. The newer "in" style among the fashionable young women is a lower wider cut triangle rear. Some lower cheek shows, but nothing like a thong!  So with overall fewer female thongers the percentage of male thongers has actually increased.

With all our days of sunshine, you would  think  Arizona would be the perfect place to see people wearing thongs in public.  This doesn't seem to be the case though.  We have very few public pools.  Otherwise most of the big pools are at the resorts are family oriented, not places you'd see people wearing thongs.  Because we have so may private pools in the area,  the thongs I see worn are at people's homes and not in public.

Fortunately  we have hot springs about 40 miles out of town in Tonopah which can be a place for wearing as little or as much as you wish. There is an area north of the City where I do a lot of hiking wearing only a thong.  It is a relaxed area where people are laid back and I have seen from naked to kids in Baggies at the swimming holes.  Both men and women  can be seen in thongs out there, but not to often.  It is an area where the people are laid back, old or young, straight or gay, as long as you can make a short hike in the desert.  The hike is a blessing in disguise, keeps the area from being over run.  I also have been told that at times you see them in public beaches near some of the lakes.  I would question this.  The crowds that gather there tend to be pretty redneck.

I am glad that I am one of those people that can choose to be equally as comfortable naked, in a thong, or in a speedo.  Any more would be a decision I wouldn't want to have to make.

Despite the rednecks, Texas is quite thong friendly. Galveston, Crystal Beach, South Padre Island, McFaddin Beach(there maybe 15-30 male thongers on a hot day)  are all Thong Friendly. And yes there are males wearing thongs including myself. I'm the only hardcore male thonger I know personally and I wear a thong wherever it is legal as it is on all Texas beaches. Also Austin lakes and parks are very male thong friendly. When it's too cold for the beach, I thong at the gym and no complaints.

In my travels outside the U.S., Jamaica is the most thong friendly for men and women as a whole.

Unfortunately some of us are limited by geographic location.  Last summer I was persistent in pushing the envelope here in the midwest (Quad Cities IA/ILL), by going rollerblading in a thong.  Only one time out of 6 or 7 were the cops not called, and that was the first one.  Each time they came I was told not to do it again, and I'm not brave enough to go there, so I was visited by each of the police depts. of Rock Island, Moline, East Moline, Davenport, and Bettendorf.  I told them I thought that since my genitals were covered I was legal, and they said it wasn't considered illegal, but a matter of distrubing the peace!  Well, there you go, someone doesn't like what they see and calls the cops to put a stop to it.

So the only place I can wear a thong and not get in trouble is at home (most of the time, because I live on a lightly traveled gravel road) and on vacation.  We've been to Miami Beach three times, and New Orleans, and next time we're going to try Ft. Lauderdale.  All these vacations are combined with cruises, and on the Carnival ships there is a reserved deck for thong/ topless sunbathing.  Unfortunately it's up by the stacks and quite noisy because of the fans running up there, but at least we can go there and not be hassled.

What I did this year at home rollerblading was to wear a mesh sarong over the thong, so it can be easily removed when the situation allows, and easily put back on when necessary.  I did this many times and never got an unwelcome visit from the cops, in fact the cops frequently go by on the street and never give hassle.  So with actual thonging not an option, this works well and I still get a pretty good thong tan.

HI iowan,

Hope you enjoy your cruse ship and the beach in Fort Lauderdale.   Depending on the time of year and the wether, there may be locals or all tourists on the beach.   North half of the beach was hit hard by erosion this last week.  I would plan to stay on the south end.

The DoubleTree OceanFront is in the right locaton.  It also has  second floor pool deck overlooking the beach and is close to the water taxi stop.

In Europe the situation is quite different.
In most of the countries there are official or tolerated nudist beaches, people are in general more open minded and tolerant than in the U.S.A. So it is less of a problem here.
Depending on the situation (fashionable resort for the jet-set or a beach for the locals) you will see more or less men in thongs.
When I go to the beach I will spot always a few men in thong or string.
So you can thong everywhere without having a conflict with the law.
Specially if you are not too extreme (transparant or micro-micro).

I wore a g-string at Crane's Beach in Ipswich, Massachusetts from 1989 to this year when I moved to Florida. You had to walk about a mile and a quarter up the beach to see me because that was the unofficial thong area. There were a number of men there who always wore thongs too, but it was the "gay area" which I guess fits a stereotype.

I always wore a thong or g-string when I went to Runaway Bay in Jamaica, but during more than ten trips, I only saw perhaps 5 or 6 other men who were doing it also.

In some states, like Delaware, it is illegal, though one can see some ladies are certain beaches, and I've seen a few daring men. I would never thong at a place where it is illegal because it is not worth the hastles.

We are rare birds, but there are more of us than just you. If it's legal, do it because you enjoy it. Life's too short to spend it worrying about others think, and it's a waste of time to conform to everything they think is appropriate.

Thonging season is over at Spanish Banks in Vancouver... I've seen only two other guys out there this season;  so, including myself ,that makes a direct observation of three in Vancouver at 'my'  beach.

Not great numbers, but for the three of us it's been agreat summer out there !

I have worn my G string lots of times at Santa Cruz Beaches.  Mainly at Castle beach near the yacht harbor.  I have also worn them at Mitchell's cove and at 2222 beach.  Last month I wore my Skinz banded thong at Castle beach and there was an old weirdo in his sixties with a  severe comb over wearing an orange bikini playing with himself while watching me.  At Caslte beach their was one regular with blonde hair and a very deep tan and ocasionally one or more males wearing thongs and a few others in bikinis.  When I went to Castle beach I was the only one in a thong and I think the reason is that dirty old man has scared everyone off.

A good website to check out any beach along the California Coast is www.californiacoastline.org   Castle Beach is no. 619.

Geez this has been going on for decades!!! Some guys won't get out there in a thong unless there's another guy out there too....and oh they don't want to go near a gay beach....probably the only place you'll find two together.

I have only worn thongs or g-strings to the lake or beach since 1985 and have only seen or met 5 other thong wearing guys over the years. Two of the I have become friends with. I was nervous the first few times, but the excitement and freedom I felt made it all worth it. The more I wore them on public beaches the easier it became. It helps to know if it is legal for a woman to be in a thing, it is legal for a guy. I am so glad I had the courage to start wearing what I felt comfortable in and not wait to see if there were other guys who would wear a thong. As a side note, I have developed a thicker skin but also have become more open, friendly and not painfully shy like I was. We all tend to prejudge people. Most of the time, the people I think might give me a problem, turn out to be extremely friendly and I end up talking to them and often making friends with them . And if they see me again they always stop me to talk. I am so glad I stopped letting fear and what others might think control my life and dictate what I should wear to conform to the masses,

My story is about the same as tobias5811’s. I wear thong with alot of confidence now. Earlier I was much more shy and afraid what others would think. It is still (very) rare I see other guys in a thong. That is the same for my home-beach ad well for the beaches in France when I’m on vacation. At my home-beach I’ve seen just one other male thonger in 3 months. In France I didn’t see other male thongers at aal during my 4 weeks stay. That is a pity, but I still enjoy thonging at the beach very much. Even without other male thongers!

This web site came up in a search for thong swimwear: https://www.audiswim.com/blogs/everything-swimwear/first-time-thong-bikini-honest-guide They are marketing thongs, but the web page has lots of information about getting into wearing thongs. It's aimed at women, but much of it applies to men. They talk about issues we all have. Here is their guide talking about where to wear thongs in Florida: https://www.audiswim.com/blogs/everything-swimwear/thong-bikinis-in-florida-2025 They tout having eco friendly fabric and even mention something about the science of bikinis related to climate change. They say a full bikini produces 0.7 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions while a thong bikini has only 0.4 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions, counting manufacturing to retailing. So us smaller swimwear people would produce even less CO2 emissions. Micro swimwear could help save the planet.
