The policing is mostly in your head.  There are some places it is still illegal for men or women to wear thongs, but most places allow thongs, especially on the beaches.
If a women can wear a thong you can too.  For both sexes it takes self-confidence and courage.

You need to do it get over your fear of being judged.  For women they are worried people will judge them for being overweight, being soft in the middle, or that people will think they are a lose women.  For men they are worried people might think they are gay or a pervy old man.  In each case you are worried about what thoughts might be in  the mind of someone else.

What is in their head really does not matter.  Heck, many are quite convinced an invisible god runs the world, and the other half of them think otherwise. You should be less concerned about what others maybe thinking, instead work on your own thoughts.  Say to yourself "I am enjoying the day, the sun, the breeze, the freedom of wearing a thong, the freedom from convention."

If wearing thongs were the norm than the young women would not come over to say hello. The tourists on the Jungle Queen would not cheer.  People would not see me as brave or, as they sometimes say of older people "He is living his best life."  Another way to say happy, fulfilled and living authentically.

One of the reasons I recommend DOING SOMETHING is to distract the voices in your head.  If you are running, flying a kite, playing frisbee or even just picking up litter your mind is occupied, not worrying if other people are looking or the judgements they might be thinking.  They can all 'go take a flying F* at a rolling doughnut" , to quote Kurt Vonnegut.

While we are on quotes, "Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."  So don't give space in your head to speculation about what is in the minds of others. Who cares?  They are entitled to be dull stupid people and this should not bother you.

For a Halloween costume paddle I wore a black transparent mesh bodysuit, black suspender thong, short cape printed in gold spiders that was partly transparent, and tall pointed witches hat. We stopped half way and had coffee and smoothies at a new hipster coffee house. Got several complements on my costume.

We often hear we should step outside our comfort zone.  That's just an artificial boundary in your own mind.

I agree with JM 100%. I am going to Las Vegas in couple days to celebrate Halloween. I am seriously thinking about wearing a Chippendales costume on Fremont Street, that consists of nothing more than black Cocksox swim trunks, with a black Cocksox swim thong underneath, with the white cuffs and collar, a temporary sleeve tattoo on the arm, and possibly black suspenders. I would wear the swim thong under the swim trunks and allow the thong straps to occasionally expose to let people know there is a thong underneath. I would wear the cuffs, collar, tattoo, and suspenders to make it all look like a costume and not just some guy walking around in a swimsuit. I don't know if I would dare remove the swim trunks and wear everything with a just thong. That might be pushing the boundaries. I would have to wait to see if anyone else is wearing anything similar. What would everyone on this forum do if you were me in this circumstance? What I do know is I am tired of being a spectator in life. I want to enjoy life to the fullest and be the one being watched and talked about.

I am reporting of great success on Fremont Street on Halloween night. I wore a "Chippendales" costume made up of nothing more than black Cocksox swim trunks, with a black Cocksox swim thong underneath, with white cuffs and collar, a temporary sleeve tattoo on the left arm, a temporary tattoo on the side of the right butt cheek, and black suspenders. There was a TON of positive responses. Whenever anyone gave me a fist bump or wanted a picture with me, I asked if they wanted to see more. I then politely showed the thong underneath, which created an even more positive response. I have to say it was one of the greatest experiences in my life. I was not the least bit nervous, and everyone had a great time. It was all in fun, no one got hurt, no one hurled any expletives at me, and I learned that no one really cares. Especially on Halloween night on Fremont Street. Believe me when I tell everyone, this is going to give be even more confidence to thong in public, as much as possible in the future.

What an amazing experience you had, bonzo68. That had to be quite the rush with everyone. I’d call that not only a confidence booster, but also an unforgettable memory.

@RapidBlue Absolutely. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I may need to make plans to return again next year! Maybe I'll head to Fantasy Fest in Key West instead.

I was staying at my sister’s house in Spain with my wife. I got something on my jeans and asked if she had a pen to clean the spot. She and my wife decided I needed to take my pants off. I happened to be wearing a tiny white gstring pouch made by a German company called boy strings. It doesn’t get more micro than that. She didn’t say anything about my tiny gstring the entire time i was walking around wearing it.

That’s awesome. I agree it’s usually in our heads. I’ve worn thongs at the beach with groups of people and they don’t care. Once you realize that life is pretty great knowing that you can just be yourself

I usually psyche myself out. I was planning on wearing a thong on my last cruise but never felt the “right” time. I’m sure most wouldn’t mind since I’m in pretty good shape for my age, but I was being shy about it. Had a better experience around Halloween. Wore a bodyaware long sleeve thong bodysuit in black over a Gregg Homme black yoga thong with some well fit pants while my wife and I went to a theatre show. I own a few bodysuits but typically wear them under sweaters or some sort of coverup, and even though I like them a lot I don’t wear them often. Wore this one with just a jacket. My wife didn’t even realize what it was until we were getting undressed for bed and she said it looked good on me. Wore it to bed and she spent a lot of time feeling my arms and back up. The next morning I was about to start the laundry and unsnapped it to toss it in with the rest and she tells me, “hey I liked that on you.” So after I showered and finished the laundry I wore it again, and she was pretty happy about it. So, being shy really often is in your own head. I’m looking forward to wearing it a lot this winter and already ordered another.

I find you cannot control what others think, but sometimes it takes a few times for somebody to get comfortable with seeing someone in tiny swimwear, thongs or smaller g-strings. In the past I often worried what people will do, say, or think. If you read my older posts you will remember I live in a rural subdivision outside of Atalanta about 20 minutes to the closest lake. I started in my 20's wearing small speedos, then progressed to thongs then g-strings. Each progression to something smaller I had anxiety and worry what others will think. This continued when I moved into my current house 14 yrs ago. I have a 5 out wooden privacy fence so I started laying out in my backyard or back deck in a thong. The new neighbors moved in about 7 yrs ago. I went over to tell the husband I wore very little in the summer and if it was a problem ,because his house is higher on the hill and looks down into my yard, he could raise my wooden fence so I could not be seen. He said it wasn't a problem. His kids saw me a few weeks later ass up on my deck and kept saying "Hey mister" until I turned over and said hello. After that I started wearing my thongs on my front porch and on my riding lawnmower in the front. I kept looking around worrying. I knew I was legal which helped. Since then I have progressed to smaller g-strings. Similar to Bruno mini g-strings. https://brunomenswear.com.mx/producto/thong-hilo-thb/ Today I had on one that I had made only in a tropical print and the strings were tied into a "T" in the rear but just as thin. My nieghbor saw me working on my laptop on my front porch and came drove up into my driveway. I went out to talk to him for 15 minutes while other neighbors drove by. I was a little hesitant to go out to talk to him. It was all in my head. He invited me over for a birthday party tonight for his wife. A few minutes later I was still on my porch when the regular UPS driver delivered a package. He was extremely shocked the first time seeing me in a g-string, but since then he always waves and says hello to me now. This summer I started walking up to 8 miles a day in very short shorts and an open sided tank top. I have met about 35 of my neighbors who stop me to talk. All have seen me in g-strings as they ride by. Seems like the smaller my shorts the more neighbors stop and talk. I was nervous for no reason. Most ask if I am a runner or how many miles have I walked that day. I have late at night around 2 a.m. walked around neighborhood for over two miles in just a thong with nothing to cover up. Crazy how many people are still up in their yards and drive by. People will be shocked seeing you the first time, but as time goes by and the more they seek you they tend to get accustomed to seeing you in less. Try progressively wearing smaller suits and always waving and being friendly. Even though I wear tiny g-strings, I make sure they are always opaque in my yard. I do have some more translucent ones I wear to certain places at the lake. The more you wear less in public the more comfortable you and your neighbors, friends will become. I find that most of my fears and worries are in my head are non issues with others. 95% of my neighbors now have huge smiles on their faces when they see me which is really nice.

tobias5711, It helps others when people like you come and tell your own stories. How you overcome your inner demons and worries to now thong confidently and publicly. There are still many trapped in the idea that they can only wear thongs when a thousand miles from home, where nobody knows them.

Re 'Since then I have progressed to smaller g-strings' . Me too. I can see no point in stripping down to a g string that covers any more than strictly neccessary ie the goods 'just' covered.

What I have found is that if people are used to seeing you in a thong, if you are wearing more, they will ask if everything is all right.

You're going to get looked at, it's the way of the small swimwear we wear. I still avoid crowds but have no problem walking the beach in front of people. I only been doing this a couple years and I hadn't had a negative comment. I had many people compliment for my suit, physique, and admired the confidence. I suggest you start small. Find a spot at the beach and lay out and get a good tan. Then as you feel confident, get in the water or start walking. I'll stand in front of my beach area just to watch people and they glance over. I always like walking fast and slow. For slow walks I let people pass me and if they look I'll say Hi because I know they just saw cheek. I saw a very heavy dude in a g-string walk the beach alone and in front of crowds. I admired his confidence that most people are at the beach to chill. Being in FL its pretty common to see small swimwear.

That's good advice... start small. I was recently asked, "why are you wearing that?" I simply replied, "I'm a sunbather!" It just makes sense.

GuestGuest: Simply put asking making very evident you’re very self confident. Often reply. “Because i can” or “I’m allowed”. “Women seem to enjoy me wearing it”. Often shuts people up noticing either agree and change their tune replying “if you got it might as well flaunt it”. Fun part someone speaks up overhearing while i think of something to say pausing. Chiming in saying, “ Look at him! Nothing more to say, having body as he has”. Maybe wrong message since someone will oppose it and take it on as challenge to discourage thonging as taboo by complaints.

Getting vocal  to put others to be defensive. “None ever complained, why do you care”.

You’re absolutely right. Almost all the judgment people worry about is imagined, not real. I found that out in Vegas with my wife. I had purposely only packed G-strings for the trip because I knew if I brought any “safer” swimwear, I’d talk myself out of it like every other vacation. Having only G-strings in my bag forced the push I needed. That morning the sun was perfect, the music was going, and I thought, “Well… this is it.” I threw on a long tank top to walk from our room to the pool, took a deep breath, and committed. The reaction blew me away. The moment I stepped into the pool area and pulled the tank top off, the vibe shifted. Groups actually waved us over like they’d been waiting for us. People I’d never met were giving me high-fives for the confidence. Couples were cheering me on. Guys with their wives told me I had major guts. Their wives were telling my wife it looked great. And yes, I even got compliments on my ass from both men and women, all completely friendly and positive. My wife was laughing, hyping me up, and loving the whole thing. Even the bartenders joined the fun. A couple of them handed me free drinks for “being the most confident guy at the pool today.” One joked that I should’ve been charging appearance fees. What’s wild is how fast all the fear disappears. After a few minutes I stopped caring about what anyone might think. I was relaxed, free, and honestly having a blast. The more confident I felt, the more people came up to us. It turned into one of the best, most memorable pool days we’ve ever had. Your post hits the truth perfectly. When you own it, people respect it. When you’re enjoying yourself, people gravitate toward you. And once you stop worrying about imaginary judgment, you realize most people are just out there to have fun and celebrate confidence. Only packing G-strings ended up being the perfect push — and it turned a simple pool day into an unforgettable experience.

Somewhere I read a fact how people will notice something, be surprised, or not care and then move on with their thoughts in under 40 seconds. So someone sees a dude in a thong walk by, they take notice, comment, take notice and the mind moves on. If they see him once again an hour later, they recognize, remember and move on. It is just in your head so wear what you want act confident and move on. (Of course there are exceptions.)

I’ve been wearing a thong to the beach, resorts and on vacation/holiday for many years now. When I first started wearing a thong in more public spaces I was a nervous wreck. I was sure I would be ticketed or worse. I was certain other people would be ridiculing me or worse. I was convinced that I would be banned from places. While I have been asked to cover up or wear something else, that has only been a few times. Twice by rangers with the first ranger being pretty relaxed about it saying I was legal but for the sake of dealing with a complaint if I wouldn’t mind could I put something else on. The second ranger was an ass, threatening me and attempting to intimidate me until I started using the law and the fact that he was in a different country from the prosecutor he was trying to threaten me with. Both of these incidents happened years ago. In the past there have been places I would never wear a thong. Now, including today, I wear one with confidence. In the past I’ve had only a hand full of other beach goes make a negative comment. In the past couple years all I’ve heard is positive comments except for one day and then a group of moms came to my defense. I am aware of how far I can push the boundaries here in the Great Lakes. I know when I travel to more tropical locations I can be a bit more expressive. Nevertheless, for me that does not mean anything sheer, see through or sexually explicit. I know there are many that like G-Strings. That’s not me, and that’s okay. But because of my body I prefer a bulge enhanced thong, only because that way I’m not smashed or falling out. Interestingly, not once has anyone said anything poor about how I fit in a bulge enhanced thong. Are there times I still get nervous? Yes! Especially if there is a high number of families with young children or if it is a very conservative looking population, then I am more cautious and sometimes choose not to be there for the day. Mostly the thought about can I wear a thong or can’t I have diminished. Probably more so in the past couple years than ever before as more and more women are wearing cheeky and thong bikinis. It helps that I have great friends that like my thong choices. It helps that I get told that I “rock” or “look good” or am told they appreciate my confidence. Once upon a time it was all in my head in a negative light. Today it’s all in my head in a positive light. Smile, be friendly, be confident, be playful, and have fun.

No, it is not in your head. Back in 2002 I started wearing a thong and people DID care. More than once I had a cop cruise by or some cop check out what was going on in the park. All changed during the pandemic. Thongs and g-strings started showing up. In 2001 in the summer I laid out next to a couple of housewives in g-strings, not thongs. They walked around in their g-strings with smiles on their faces. Guys still had to be low-key.

Odd reactions when exiting the beach. Did beach stroll earlier in boystrongs Y back string. Anyone with eyes recognized what i was wearing. As afternoon clouds increased decided to pack up and leave the beach. My route takes me about ten minute shoreline to exit No.2. Decided to put on another triangle bulge thong under my running shorts. Decided to leave wearing tank top and thong along with two bags i was carrying. Found i gotten more smirky reactions from same beach visitors when i wore skimpy y back earlier in afternoon. Maybe because of the change of thong beach folk found it peculiar. Or believed i was leaving in just a thong and tank top. Two couples with sexy gals on the beach also were leaving ahead of me. One beautiful asian had on g string on the beach. Only wore cotton grey semi loose short short with white tank top. The other Russian gal all nude with her stay on the beach. When leaving she wore long white t shirt with black mid length spandex shorts. Didn’t find my thong that over the top leaving the beach. Rare to see gal wear just bikini when leaving the beach into park area. At exit trail i put on my short shorts not after few female passers entering the beach gave me scan.
