When I was in college a few years ago, my girlfriend and I would wear thong at the beach and at a secluded location on campus at UNF.  Nobody ever really bothered us.  We got a few stares from now and then and, once and a while acompliment to the both of us.  It was fun...

Well i just spent the afternoon on the beach in the Guana National Research Reserve area, the area where i went was almost deserted.  No one bothered me although some guy wearing a women's bikini kept checking me out and two somewhat large women stared at me while walking back to my blanket from the water...guess they've never seen a guy in a thong before.  Weather was nice, water terrific and the freedom of wearing just a thong was awesome.  Hope to go back again this week as I'm in the area for business.  It would have been nice to have a female companion to keep the cross-dresser away.

I've worn them in jacksonville beach and they are fine there. They are legal. I have seen men and women in thongs, so its cool. Beach patrol drives by, lifeguards look = No problem. And they sell thongs in the beach shops, but not very many.

I was in St. Augustine for the last month and was on the beach everyday, surfing and hanging and did not see one thong. It was a shame because the beaches were beautiful and well as the people in great shape. Traveled to JAX beach and not one there. I wore mine at ponte vedra beach as well as vilano. Its easy to find an empty spot and just relax. Morena, in your opinion where would be the best spots in the area? I love there and will be there for good soon.

St. Augustine is in St. Johns county and last I heard wearing a thong on the beach is illegal in that county. There are a few secluded spots that are safer for thonging. These spots are very unpopulated, but at the populated beaches with rangers or patrol you will be asked to cover up or given a citation. Too bad, I can remember seeing many thongs just a few years back. I am not sure the time frame that they became illegal.

I just got back from the beach in st. augustine in my g string all day. I usually stay away from the crowd and just set up. I never heard that they were illegal in st. johns county, but have never been seen by beach patrol. It is more conservative here, but its Florida so who cares.

Great day on the beach in st augustine today. Out in the thong all day with no comments or complaints. At the end of the day the sheriff drove right by, 3 feet from my chair but kept on going. I was sitting in my chair but still not sure if there is a thong ordinance like someone said earlier.

Thongs are not legal
Go here http://www.clk.co.st-johns.fl.us/minrec/OrdinanceBooks/OrdIndex.htm
Scrol down to NUDITY and open up the first PDF (ORD 192-12) then go to page 14.

I was there last year and was told to cover up and then leve the beach. I was excorted OFF.

If it weren't a law, it would be comical trying to figure out their definition of the word "buttocks".  It is a bunch of very complicated math and geometry full of imaginary lines running in every direction.

My wife and I are going to the Jacksonville, Fl and St. Augustine, Fl area next week and was wondering where we can go that I can wear my thongs at and won't feel uncomfortable.  Like a beach where it is ok to wear thongs and others are wearing them there.  Or a place that don't have that many people there so we won't be around others like an isolated beach.  Plus I don't want to be hassled by the rangers or police.  I just want to get a nice suntan and relax. Thank you for any information.  I have been to St Augustine Beach and it was ok but a lot of people were there.

Between jacksonville and st augustine on A1A is guana state park that has 3 beach parking lots of A1A. Pick one and just walk a little distance from the other people. Alot of beach there.

Thongs and g-strings are legal in Jacksonville Beach. I recommend that you go to the south end of the beach. There is parking in a residential area around 37th ave south and 1st street. You will walk about 1 block to the beach from there. The beach is not overly crowded in this area and you won't be hassled by anybody. Weekdays are best for lighter crowds.

I was in Jacksonville several years ago and thong right on the main beach with no problems.  The first day was a weekday, so it wasn't too crowded, but the 2nd was Saturday and it was packed.  I got lots of stares and giggles, for sure, but no problems.

Bigswells:  I would be careful in any Fl State Park, as it is my understanding that thongs are not legal in Fl State Parks.

Update on Jax Beach - yeah, I've laid in the sun regularly on Jax Beach in a Skinz classic thong last summer (2013) and the previous summer, usually between 13th ave and 19th ave north. I've never had a single thing said to me, although there are usually quite a few stares (hopefully some in admiration). I have frequently seen numerous women (just about all of them younger, fit and particularly hot) on Jax Beach the last couple of years in thongs or the slimmest Rio cuts that are close enough to warm the scenery. I have also seen other thonged men laying in the sun on several occasions, enough not to be an unusual site - sometimes a treat; there is at least one very finely muscled dude, 40ish whom I have seen several times - he is a great ambassador for smaller cut suits. Do not see as many true thongs as I used to, but I am learning to really like these scrunchie style rio cut suits, especially on the ladies. There is some beautiful scenery on Jax Beach!

There is an active push to designate a large portion of Jax Beach as "clothing optional".

See the article here http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/2014-05-27/story/petition-seeks-nude-beach-jacksonville-beach

Although this is not likely to become a reality anytime soon, it is interesting that the initiative is being facilitated by a young lady (quite an attractive lady at that) who is very vocal about her choice of no bikinis or swimsuits at all. The title of the article reporting the Jax Beach mayor's response is entitled "It's Not Happening On My Watch". The main objection is the brain-dead we do not want to attract that kind of crowd to the family beach. Anyway, I was intrigued that while thongs are not unusual for men or women on Jax Beach, the minimal swimwear angle is being by-passed altogether from stodgy to nothing...maybe open up the thong/minimal potential a little more no matter how it turns out.

Maybe we could all encourage those in support of the petition to work towards wearing minimal swimwear as a gradual transition of the norm on the beach towards the most minimal to nothing at all??

Hi everyone. I'm a male Aussie thong wearer - my wife and I are heading over to the U.S on holidays next month. Really looking forward to soaking on some beautiful Florida sun and getting out in my new thongs!
We're staying in St Augustine and I'm trying to find out where I can/cannot wear my thongs? Does anyone know if it's legal to wear thongs on St Augustine beach? I'm also contacting our hotel to see if they're allowed at their pool there.
As for other "thong friendly beaches" - sounds like Jacksonville beach might be the most thong-friendly in the area? However, I'm not sure as I've read some mixed feedback and I'm confused as to where it is and is not legal to wear thongs on the beach on the east coast of Florida around where we'll be.
Any help, advice and current information would be much appreciated!
Thank you :-)

It can be quite confusing in the States to figure out where you can (or may) and where you can't (or shouldn't). So, you are doing well to inquire and ask straight-forwardly about wearing minimal swimwear at each locale. It is the safest course. As best I can determine, thongs are not welcome at St. Augustine, which also goes for all of the beaches in St. Johns County (St. Augustine is a municipality within the county).
Jacksonville Beach is thong friendly, and I sun/swim there regularly. It is just north from St. Augustine on US 1 about 40 miles. You might make better travel time out on Interstate 95. I usually lay out between 7th-12th Ave North. Another good place is from about 10th-15th Ave South.
South of St. Augustine, on US 1 or via I-95, is Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach which are in Volusia County. Thongs are permitted (tolerated these days) on all the beaches of Volusia County, but beware they are readily policed and not permitted within the municipal boundaries. The municipal boundaries of the City of Daytona Beach end where the sand begins on the beach. Thongs are ok on the sand. Not ok off the sand, unless at a hotel pool which allows/permits/tolerates them, which just about all of the hotels do.
You do have some great thonging locations just north and south of where you will be in St. Augustine. I would recommend Ormond Beach as that currently seems to be the most tolerant of the areas. You may encounter some loud-mouth jerks who willingly share their ignorance and opinions, but as to an issue of legality, those are the "rules" as they currently stand.
This must seem terribly silly to you, but this is the American way. We have layers upon layers of political jurisdictions that all make up their own laws and regulations heading in different directions, so it can be frustrating to figure out who has the say on various issues on a specific piece of territory. As unreasonably confusing and difficult as this is on such a ridiculous issue as where you can and can't wear a sexy suit, imagine that we are fighting these same battles on every issue of daily life.
Welcome to the States. Have a great time; relax and we're very happy you are here!

Thank you for such a detailed and well informed reply bodimuscle! I will definitely be checking out both Jacksonville, Ormond and Daytona beaches.
Regarding St. Augustine, that's really disappointing and a bit of a pain as it's the closest beach to where we are staying. Was hoping to get out there in my thong. Guess my thonging time will have to be a bit more limited. I'm tempted to call their county office and just check the legalities, but it sounds like it might not be worth it.

I have a few more follow up questions, if I may? For Ormond Beach, I read somewhere else here that the part of the beach close to Grenada Blvd is the best area for thonging, do you know if this is correct? Are there any other beach etiquette/tips for thonging you might have while i'm in the area?
As for having to put up with narrow-minded people - Australian rednecks pretty much wrote the book on being narrow-mindedrednecks. I can't go thonging near my (small) home city in the country here for this very reason. There are locals here who would seriously flip out. Thankfully we have some much more tolerant areas/communities and in most cases we at least have the law on our side.

Thanks for the very warm welcome too! I can't wait to get there! :-)

Re:Jacksonville and St.Augustine - FL

gstringman01,
Yes, at Ormond Beach, I would recommend the area near Grenada Blvd. This is the height of our summer, and the beaches are quite crowded, particularly late July into mid-August with families getting in their last vacations before school starts back. My wife and I are just back from being down there this past weekend (Jul 25-27th), and we laid out at the Grenada Blvd. section of the beach where the crowds were a little less crowded, and we did not encounter as many families with small children. The beach population overwhelmingly consisted of families with school-age children. There were a few teenagers around, but they were too self-absorbed to even notice anyone else was on the beach, much less in the world-at-large.

As for beach/thong etiquette - I lay out in thongs and walk down to the water and back with my glutes bared, but I pull on some walking shorts or a larger swimsuit (usually a "speedo" style) for walking up and down the beach. I have grown accustomed to being the sole object of all attention by those nearby when I do walk down and back from the water, but they seem to be admiring/approving gazes, and nothing disparaging. Also, I do not make a point of getting in people's "faces" or setting up near people with children. I try to get some separation from those already setup and if others choose to camp out on top of me and my bare ass after I have setup, then so be it. I have had very rare and few problems anywhere, when I largely tried to keep to myself and just enjoy the hot sun on my bare ass and the cool water on my skin. It seems that we ask for trouble when we push too many boundaries, and I would recommend NOT intentionally making a spectacle of yourself or drawing too much attention. It has been my experiences, that often families with small children, particularly mothers at the beach alone with their children, will curiously settle right near me and there are never any problems - I do not know what they tell their children or how they explain to them a man in such a tiny suit with his "hiney" shining, but I have never had a single problem from such who choose to setup near me. Conversely, on the flip side, when I have settled too close to those with small children, I have had disapproving looks, some rude comments and at least once was asked to cover my ass by a grandpa who was on the beach with his young grandchildren. I apologized to him, no harm intended, and moved a further distance away.

For etiquette - cover up going to and coming from the beach. Do not parade around public or hotel property, through the lobby or other places in an attempt to dare anyone to stop or challenge you. If you desire to seek trouble, it will quickly and certainly find you. I opt for a little bit of discretion, and it pays great dividends, including benefit-of-the-doubt and tolerance from those who might otherwise make a huge scene and demand I cover up. I have discovered that I am largely ignored on the beach and at the hotel pools, because there's nothing sensational going on. On the beach, you will likely have walkers come uncomfortably close on a wide-open beach with plenty of room - usually curious, sometimes inquisitive. Take it as a compliment, they are checking you out; not to attack you, but get a good view of some rarely seen eye-candy, so do not be alarmed - be friendly and exchange greetings, they usually keep moving along with no troubles, just a treat for their eyes and vacation memories.

The last item on my mind about etiquette - is keep the family jewels covered. Having your glutes bare is one thing. There is an obscure phrase in the Volusia County (Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach are parts of Volusia County), about men being in a "visible and obvious turgid state" as violation of their public indecency ordinance. I don't think this is a real problem with most men on any usual and ordinary basis, but be aware that if you are sporting a "stiffie" in a tiny suit, thong, poser or speedo, you could get fussed at very sternly. Stay relaxed...lol...even when you are likely to see an innumerable number of some of the most beautiful women you will ever see, all sizes, shapes and races in sexy swimsuits...stay relaxed, and take it easy! Seriously, the glutes being bare are one issue, and nudity of genitalia, male and female are treated on a completely different level in the States - such is a capital offense of the gravest order. Do not change swimsuits on the beach without some kind of cover-up or going into the water for cover. Make sure your suit keeps the jewels all corralled at all times. With all these things in mind, there is nothing to it!! lol

I believe you will have a great time. Be a gentleman; be friendly and you can enjoy some of the best suntime/beachtime the States have to offer in the Daytona/Ormond area. The water is great this time of year, cool and refreshing, there is lots of wide-open beach to roam. The weather is a little stifling warm, but "tis the season" that fits the tiny suits and the swim time.

Wish I could be there with ya!

I Rob,
Thanks for all of your advice, it's very helpful. I'm feeling much less worried about hitting the beach in my thong. Ormond Beach near Grenada Blvd sounds like the spot :-)
Like you, I tend to err on the side of discretion and make my way down to the beach with thong covered and strip down once i'm there. I too try not to set up near young families or children when thonging here in Australia. Certainly, genitals covered at ALL times. I don't mind the 'buns' out there, but that's it.
Still not sure about thonging on St. Augustine beach itself. The advice so far on the boards is that it's not 'thong friendly.' This website http://nofashionpolice.wordpress.com/are-thongs-legal/ says it's legal on the beach....
Quote: "St. Johns County: ILLEGAL (Source) [PDF], including the city of St. Augustine (Section 15-4). In St. Augustine Beach, however, thongs are LEGAL (Source) [PDF]"
Legal there but not thong friendly I suppose.
Thanks again. Can't wait to get out there :-D

Bodimuscles advice is right on.  Been traveling to FL 1-2 times a year from Pittsburgh PA and Ormond is my favorite place.  He's also right on about St Augustine and St John's county.  Don't know where you got the info that thongs were OK at St Augustine, butit is wrong and I wouldn't chance it.  Outside of Volusia County (Daytona/Ormond/New Smyrna) the local police can be real pain in the ass rednecks and have no problem ruining your vacation, so follow HIS advice and enjoy a great a relaxing time!

Spent the day on Jax Beach, and it was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable beach days I've had in a very long time. Jax Beach is probably the go-to beach nowadays for thong-friendly (nobody gives a rat's rear-end, much less yours) in our little corner of the world (ranging between Charleston and Daytona)...

I was between 13 Ave S and 16 Ave S (I moved a couple times as I came and went from the beach throughout the day); hit the beach about 10am, sparsely populated, in a thong-back poser and rotated buns up/front up every 30 minutes or so. Had lots of walkers venture out of their trajectory to get a much closer look at the eye-candy, and I took it as a compliment.

It never got crowded, but grew comfortably populated while the day grew on. I know at least one lady (a nice-looking mature woman, I presume she was a lady) walked up on me to snap a cellphone pic (would have liked one of her, by the way), and at least one other young mom with two children who insisted on playing in the tidal pool just beyond my feet, had hers out and I'm pretty sure I witnessed her captured a memory as well (twice). Anyway, it was a super day, lots of friendly folks, and as the day wore on, the tide worked its way in, and while not crowded, all present worked into much closer proximity than originally intended, and no problems at all.

I saw and spoke to at least 3 women who were wearing actual, for-real-and-true thong bikinis (and of course, they were all gorgeous). I saw no other guys in thongs, but 2 very nicely built studs were wearing poser-style (ok, I hate the term, but "Speedo") style suits. Aside from that there were tons and tons of girls and women of all ages wearing scrunchie-back (those really sexy, narrow kind) of suits which seem to now be the standard (which is perfectly A OK with me) bikini style. When you get in close proximity to a city of 1+ million people, it is amazing how many truly beautiful, stunning women you seen hanging around the beaches...and yeah, there were some "cute" guys too, and a handful of real men!

In spite of it's reputation of being the "largest redneck town in America", Jacksonville is truly a wonderful place with some great people, and for my tastes and recent experiences, I recommend it as a go-to place for "Sun's Out - Buns Out" suits, male and female.

I made it out to Jax Bch. around 12th Ave. S. yesterday for a couple of hours. I walked down in my new Skinzwear Sunseeker Rio with my g string on under it. Now this rio has a very narrow back and I had a few stares, but no body said anything to me. However, I never did get down to the g string since there were a number of kids around. I only saw one other girl in her late 20's that came down in a rio type bottom that laid out buns up as soon as she got there. She  was attractive, but she only stayed about 15 minutes and left!! So there was no one else near me in minimal swimwear. After I got tired of being covered in sand, it was a little windy today, I decided to hit the road. I live down in St. Augustine so I have not been down to Jax Bch. in a long time, so I rode up and down First Street checking out the sights. I saw a few girls in either thongs or very narrow bottom bikinis, but they were very young girls in the 14-17 year old range. I was surprised I did not see more girls that were at least in their late 20's and up!

I was in town (Jacksonville) today for business and ran by the beach for the first time.  I was near the pier and saw one young girl in a thong, walking around. Saw a couple rio backs as well, then drove about a mile away from the pier at one of the beach access streets, just to jump out really quick and scope it out.  Saw another girl in a thong, I was enjoying it so much decided to walk back along the beach to the pier but unfortunately those were the only 2 thongs out, I just happened to get lucky finding them so easily.

Jax Beach has been hit-and-miss for me this year.  I’ve spent most of the summer around 6th-9th Ave North, sometimes there’ll be 8 to 12 ladies in thongs and/or close enough to be considered thongs, sometimes there’s none at all.  Not a lot of middle ground.  As for guys, occasionally I’ll spot one or two in a squarecut or speedo, never seen a guy in a thong other than myself.  It’s still an improvement, I had seen maybe two or three thongs total over the last five years before this summer.  Legality isn’t an issue at Jax, beach patrol and police drive by regularly without a word.  Not a lot of negativity either, I’ve heard a few snickers but generally nobody seems to care enough to say anything.

Summer refuses to die in north Florida this year; 80+ and sunny today so I called out sick and spent the day at Jax.  About as quiet as would be expected on the first Monday in November, though I did see another male thonger about a block north (I was on North 6th) around noon.  I thought about walking up to say hello, but he was gone in a matter of minutes.  Notable for me; In my eight summers down here I've never seen a guy in a thong at the beach other than myself.

So what is the truth here about St. Augustine Beaches? Legal or not. Just bought 2 thongs for my future wife and two thongs for myself from skinz and they are skimpy thongs. we were going to ride on the beach in our jeep on Monday and Tuesday and look for a deserted area where we could lay out. I would like to know if it is good or not. got a ticket 20 years ago on Talbot Island For being nude in a state park. don't want to go there again. thanks in advance for any replies.

From a separate thread:

St. Augustine is in St. Johns county, which considers thongs to be indecent.  Apparently thongs are legal on St. Augustine Beach, but I have no idea how the border is defined; haven't been able to find any good information.  I also can't say how rigorously thong laws are enforced between the sexes or at all.  Not a lot of help, I know... If you have the time and the means, and would rather avoid any potential headaches, I'd recommend traveling a bit north to Jax Beach or Ponte Vedra; both are in Duval County where thongs are permitted.

I hate to say, but Ponte Vedra is in St. Johns County as well. Jax Beach is the only place I would thong!!!

Just got back from St. Augustine. Went to the beach on Tuesday and went down to the Matanzas Ramp area just north of it. Fairly deserted but a lot of walkers. No problem with anything. Both wife and I wear wearing pretty skimpy thongs. Went to the beach at the south end of Amelia Island and just north of the state park boundary. Only accessible for 4X4. Again no problem.

Glad you had a great time here, and you did not have any issues wearing thongs!! I still will not chance it since I live here. I will just go up to Jacksonville Beach or Ormond Beach.

Went back to the south end of Amelia Island today and me and now wife got 3 1/2 good hours of sun. Both of us in thongs. No Problem.

Spent a good seven hours on Jax Beach in a red JS thong today.  Early in the afternoon I had a big family-looking group (20-something moms and dads, young kids, grandparents) set up just a few yards north of me.  As usual, no reaction.  after a few hours they were joined by a gorgeous young woman who, after setting up her towel, promptly stripped down to a thong bikini.  Needless to say I ended up staying a bit longer; I overheard a bit of her conversation and I'm pretty sure this was the first time she'd seen a guy in a thong.  Hopefully she converts some of the guys in the group.

Other than that, I saw probably four other legit thongs walking in the surf and tons of cheeky/brazilian/rios on the ladies.  100% surf shorts on the guys, as usual, but no negativity toward me in a thong.  Jax beach really is great for hassle-free thonging and people-watching, and this summer is shaping up to be the year of the thong bikini.

JSJax, what part of Jax Beach were you on? Every time I go there I am the only one in a thong. I have not even seen any woman in a thong. Maybe it's because I am there during the week is the problem.

I'm always a few blocks north of the pier, I've been in the 8th-9th Ave North area twice this year with similar observations.  I went during the week a lot last year and found it to be very hit-and-miss, sometimes lots of thongs and cheekys, sometimes very few to none.  I also noticed that the skimpy stuff was more prevalent early in the season than later.  If it's a trend I'd assume it would be more observable during the weekend, just because the beach is much more populated.  Midweek you probably have to rely on being in the right place at the right time.

Hope I'm not being overly optimistic after two beach days...

Going back to the sound end of Amelia Island on Thursday morning. Good place from where the State park ends and where Nassau County beaches begin...a little distance away from Amelia Island Plantation resort. Thongs are legal in Nassau County and there is a great spot between the State Park line where you can drive on the beach and the Nassau County line where you cant drive on the beach. We take our Jeep and park right on the edge of that line so no one can drive by us and gawk and we only get walkers from the Plantation resort. We are going to wear our skimpiest thongs again as we were able to walk almost two miles into the Plantation with no problem and we got some good sun. That is what all of Florida should be like.
