Date Posted:05/24/2025 09:42:58Copy HTML I've read a few comments about thonging at Knoll beach, Studland and done it on a couple of occasions. But each time, I have been in the nudist section. Which I now think as though I've chickened out a bit. I'm hoping for a chance to go this summer. Has anyone had any experience of thonging at the textile section of the beach. I'm not thinking of in the really busy area near the NT car park. But more from the path from Ferry road and then turn right instead of left towards the nudist section. I'm wondering what the reception could be like. |

Re:Knoll Beach, Studland Date Posted:05/27/2025 08:56:37Copy HTML I’ve walked from the nude section to the NT car park and cafe area. Slipped on a swim string once I got out of the designated area. Put shorts on to go into cafe. Back to the swim string on the beach in front of cafe area. Had a quick swim in the busy area there. Heard one comment “I thought that was a girl”. Then headed back to nude area in just the string. Passed many people including families with no issues.
Almost all guys in shorts and very few girls in skimpy bikinis.
It feels very conservative there but no problem wearing thongs etc.
Life’s too short etc. enjoy it. |

Re:Knoll Beach, Studland Date Posted:05/27/2025 04:45:08Copy HTML When I was 5,6 and 7 we lived on a house high up on Downbarrow, the hill between Studland and Swanage. My father kept our boat on a mooring in the bay and we had a hut on the beach.
Then we moved across the harbour to Lilliput. This was back in the 1960's.
Both our old houses have now been knocked down. Just have memories of walking Studland and Shell beaches, sailing my own AB in the harbour and a good childhood. If my parents had held on to the properties I guess we would be rich now.
When running round the dunes we would come across nudists laying out or naked people engaged in adult play. I don't know if the signs for unexploded bombs are still there. |

The area was used to demonstrate D Day training to messers Eisenhower, Churchill et al. |

Re:Knoll Beach, Studland Date Posted:05/27/2025 08:48:39Copy HTML I believe the beach was mined in WWII because it was a natural place for the Germans to invade.
It was feared that if Germany established a foothold on the Purbeck peninsula, with the high Ballard Down providing protection of Swanage from the North (and a perfect observation platform) it would be difficult to drive them back into the sea.
A lot of the South coast was militarized, with special attention to any convenient landings, especially locations near useful harbours like Poole Harbour.
The beaches of the Purbeck peninsula had dragon's teeth, pillboxes, extensive beach obstacles and over 5,000 mines. Large sections were fenced off with UXB's from the live-fire exercises that involved naval guns and bombs. When I lived there as a little boy, back in the early 1060's, the mines and obstacles on the beaches were all removed but there were still sections back in the dunes that had fences and warning signs. |
