Date Posted：09/27/2004 05:41:22Copy HTML Of the Balearic Islands, I've only been to Santa Ponsa on the south coast of Mallorca and San Antonio on the west coast of Ibiza.
Wasn't overly impressed with San Antonio - lots of aggressive drug pushers and the beaches weren't all that great (plus I'm not the world's greatest fan of clubbing so San Antonio wasn't the best choice for me... but it was cheap!). That said, I was able to wear a very low cut thong from Dore without any worries on the beach and saw at least one girl wearing just a thong bikini as she ran down the street. Mallorca was much better and I took the opportunity to drive around the island, visiting different towns and beaches. All the beaches were fantastic and wearing a thong certainly isn't a problem. The island is beautiful - I would happily go back for another vacation there. The best time to visit the Balearics is late July-September, once the Mediterranean Sea has warmed up nicely. As I've indicated above, thongs are quite acceptable and, although you don't see many guys wearing them and only a few girls, you'll almost definitely see at least one other whichever beach you're on... but even if you don't, you shouldn't let that stop you! The Balearics get a big thumbs up from me! =D |

Menorca tends to be quieter and more family orientated. It was about 3 years ago and I don't remember many thongs - except near a nudist end of a beach. A bit of topless though. I can't imagine a problem with thongs and trends change such that it may be more common now with the trend towards more women and girls wearing them as underwear and bikinis getting briefer. I predict a major thong outbreak this summer. Mallorca was visited about 5 or 6 years ago and was much more thongy. The beach at Alcudia had loads of topless and thong topless bathers of all ages. I even saw a girl of about 10 in a thong (didn't know you could get them for that age!). The hotel pool had just one thong (who didn't stand up ever) but more topless. The water park near Palma is great. There was one girl in a near thong of about 14 or 15 with her family. I watched her change from a rio brief to the more daring one. The family asked me to take their photo!! Later on I saw another girl of about 15 - 17 in a small g -string and nobody paid special attention to her. Bet she got some great rides with a bare backside! So, yes. Balearics are great for thongs |

If you stay away from the main hotel/resort beaches, I found that thongs and nudity were pretty common. Even in the resorts such as Son Bou or Santo Thomas, if you walk a few hundred yards from the main hotel beaches, I found nude sunbathing was common. There are some nice beaches, less populated, in the north of the island (eg Pregonda) that are pretty laid back- thongs no problem.
I've only been to Mallorca once, and yes, I would recommend Es Trenc. I did go the main resort beach in Arenal, and on the main town beach in front of the shops/hotels, remember seeing a very deeply tanned man wearing just a tiny g string,and no one seem bothered, and this was 15 years or so ago.
I have never been there, but Formentera, the small satellite island off ibiza, is supposed to be very laid back with lovely beaches, and minimal swimwear and nudity pretty common - does anyone here have any reports on a visit to Formentera ?? I would be interested to hear. Pete |

Its great for a day trip but would be even better to stay. The whole west coast is one long beach where nudity and thonging seem the norm. What I normally considered to be risque like walking the beach in a thong & topless, is quite usual. I came across another girl (German) walking the board walk and foot path behind the beach only in a tiny thong with clear elastic sides (looked really cool), and I didn't feel out of place going up to the beach bar in a g-string. Ibiza is great for thongs, although I only went to the beaches 5 miles west of San Antonio - like NicThong said the town is Ok for thongs but just a dump otherwise!

It does sound like a great place to stay for week or so, rather than just do as a day trip. I know when I have looked into it previously, that there is not much good quality accomodation actually on Formentera, so that has put us off a bit. We just got back from a really nice week in Algarve - see the other thread in this part of the board. Are you planning your next trip yet ?? All the best Pete

Re：Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, Formentera (Majorca) - Balearic Islands - Spain Date Posted：09/27/2004 08:27:06Copy HTML I was quite surprised that I didn't see that many men in thongs (maybe 4-5 each day)(perhaps because there wasn't that many there or perhaps through my lack of attention) but the trend for the men seemed to be to wear the more modest design of thong (e.g. speedo thong) although this was the case I'm 99.9% sure that the attitude would be no different for the men as for the women, as the guys that I saw seemed to be doing the same things as us without anyone caring. Also may I add that not all girls there wore thongs either so its really an open minded mix of people that don't really care what one another get up to or wear |

It sounds like Santa Eulalia is a quiet spot but is it thong friendly or should I pack my rio back as well. Not many thongs to be seen on the east coast, I guess about 30 female over a couple of weeks although topless seems to be the norm these days on the beach and alot around the pool. I didn't see another male in a thong while I was on the beaches around Cala Llonga upto Cala Martina... Only me, in the end I resorted to the rio 1/2 back after comments by G/F to that effect, didn't want to rock the boat and spoil the holiday. Nice place to snorkel and feed the fish... Island of Formentera, well worth the visit. the beaches on the east side looked almost tropical, white sand, clear turquoise sea, you get the picture. Just didn't have long enough on the island to do it justice but did thong while we were there. Ibiza is nice island if you avoid San Antonio... What a DUMP!!!! Still managed to come back with a good clear Thong tan line though so couldn't have been too bad.... PJ_UK |

There are a lot of great beaches here on the island and genally it can be said that wearing a thong is accepted on all of them. I found that away from the main resort beaches/hotel areas, almost anything goes - thongs should not be a problem, and nudity is common on quieter beaches. Official nude beach is Cala Macarellata - quite hard to get to, it is a difficult walk to the west of Cala Sanat Galdana. A good spot to stay for thongs/nudity is Santo Thomas - the beach in front of the hotels is probably not suitable for thongs/nude, but walk a few hundred yards in either direction (to the end of Son Bou beach to the east, or to Binigaus beach to the west), and thongs/nude are no problem. Almost the whole of Son Bou beach, apart from the most easterly end in front of the hotels, is fine for thongs or nude. Good beaches to the north for sunning are Cala Pregonda (I've thongd there, but not gone nude), or Cala Algaiarens (nude possible at the quieter end eastern end). On the est coast, you could try Es Grau (coves to the north of the main beach) or taking a boat to IIla d'en Colom . Have fun and let us know how you get on. All of the beaches are thong or gstring friendly to men and women. On paradise beach you can wear anything, many women are topless with tiny gstring bottoms. There are lots of speedos, some thongs and some gstrings on men. No one gives a damn about what you wear. There is a gay beach but its quite a hike, after the bus ride. The guys on the gay beach are mostly naked with some in gstrings and thongs. Quite a few flopper strings on guys. On this beach you may see the guys fondling each other in open public and some getting erections and again, no one gives a damn. Wear what ever you want to. I wore a fairly large mesh thong for several days and then went to a very tiny gstring for the rest of the time. No problems at any time. |

It lies just off Ibiza and you can only get to it by ferry boat which leaves every half hour from Ibiza town. The island is only 11 miles long from east to west, and has outstanding beaches, which are all thong friendly and nudism is not uncommon. My favourite beach is Levant, miles of beach with not one hotel fringing its unspoilt sand, which makes it quiet and consequently peaceful. I've been to Formentera 6 times, and due to go there again this September, I love the place, I've worn several different styles of thong from Borat style to the skimpiest imaginable with no problem at all. All other beaches are just the same, and I guess in a week you could go to a different beach each day and lap up the freedom and relaxation of it all. I could go on for ages about this beautiful place, but just put it on your google task bar to find out more, and if you do go there, you will never want to go back to any other Balearic island, and just like me, you'll be hooked.

Quite a few women in thongs but I was the only male thong wearer and that was for two weeks. Es Cana has a small beach with a little harbour which is more family orientated, however a bit further on is Carla Nova. This is a more secluded beach and is also used by nudists. I wore my HOM thong here on a couple of occasions. I also visited the nearby island of Formentera (two hours by boat) A fantastic easy going place, we went to the beach at Es Pujols with its little bars and boardwalks. One area was occupied by nudists but the rest was very thong friendly. Quite a few women in thongs, but yet again I was the only man. I wore a white swim thong on the beach. I am sure it would have been acceptable to have walked just about anywhere in a thong and no one would have bothered.
Its a pity there are so few male thongers about, it would make it far easier to be accepted. bob |

During high seson Palma Nova / Magaluf is quite crowded and mainly populated by the UK larger lout crowed. So I was a little hisitent to thong there, but when I did I found that people noticed but said nothing I was more confident and comfortable. It may have helped that I was with my girlfriend. Mallorca has some nude beaches and a lot of young people, (who mostly seem to be zipping around on motor scooters), so the attitude is yong and party. In a thong you will get some looks, but if you act like you have no fear and don't look around furtivly you should be fine. |

Ideally I prefer sunbathing and swimming nude and beaches like Son Bou accommodate nudists and wearers of swimwear very easily since it is so large. I even walked nude from Santo Tomas to Son Bou, along the coastal path, on a couple of occasions. I found no problems wearing a g-string when eating or drinking at some of the little beach bars which spring up in summer. Cadiz was also a great place with a fantastic beach. Being a town beach I wore a g-string although it was possible to get naked further along the beach, away from the town. I believe the authorities have now banned nudity on the town beach but I do not know their attitide towards thongs etc.

I went there for three days in sept10.and satyed at a very classy hotel . Though i dont rememberthe name or the beach i went to..The next day asked the taxi driver to take me to a nude beach. one side was the hetro and the far side was gay.Iwalked from the parking lot to the hetro side and saw almost all types of people nude topless and with the most amazingly sexy gstrings which showed more than it hid. anyway was great.i was wearing a red dore fishnet thong.
on the hetro side nobody really cared, a few men ansd women nodded appreciatively since evryone had unique thongs and g strings.On the gay side which was aslo full and very little space to put your towel, there were real handsome young and old gay folk but very few in anything close to a thong or gstring.In fact the waiter at the restaurant shack clalled me a preety man since my Dore was the sexiest thing there.There were lots of couples toally nude and in many an embarassingor embracing position.since hardly anybody with gstrings or thongs,later realised why wear a thong at a nude beach,better to let it all hang out. ibiza is very free so enjoyed every minute of it |

I walked around in a thong on most of the beaches, and even went to a beach bar and nobody blinked an eye.

For the last 25 years she has an apartment near by. In the summer the beach is very crowded. I have only been to Palma Nova a couple of times but concur with her assessment. Not exactly a care free quiet hideaway. Good luck.

Re：Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, Formentera (Majorca) - Balearic Islands - Spain Date Posted：02/25/2011 09:06:51Copy HTML I have been to all 3 islands over the years, and yes, they are all "party orientated" islands, Ibiza being the biggest party, so with that said you do find a lot of "loutish" behaviour in the main centres around the clubs and pubs, ( from both the boys and girls) if you venture away from these main towns you will find they are beautiful islands, with beautiful quiet beaches and a lovely cafe culture. I've enjoyed both sides, I've partied hard and enjoyed the quiet beaches in not a lot! It is a very relaxed atmosphere out of the main towns, and one my most recent visit 3 years ago, I was by no means the only guy in a thong.

We normally go in June so it isn't as busy as July and August and hopefully not too bad, I thought Plama Nova was a little more of a family beach than Magaluf. To be honest was stayed by Nissi Beach (near Ayia Napa) last year and it was fine. This beach is well know as a party beach, but the people seemed to be having fun but still respectful. My partner was happy wearing her thongs on such a crowded beach. I enjoyed it too!

The beaches to the north of La Sabina (either side west or east) are wonderful, and once you hava passed the 'windmill' you can walk naked all the way to the Northern end. Cala Sahona is also clothing optional. And in the south, you can wear thong on Tramontana/Mitjorn beach.

I stumbled across this piece hidden paradise quite by mistake. If you just google 'formentera' and look through pics or videos, the amount of back-ground or casual thong wearing and topless is unprecedented! The videos below are the top few samples from youtube having just searched, 'formentera' - no mention of the word thong. The top one is from 2012. It is without doubt the most friendly orientated island to wear g-strings or thongs, nobody will pass any negative comment to you as regards your choice of swimwear, whether that be conventional or very risque type of thongs. Consequently, you will be so relaxed and carefree as to wearing and choosing what types of thongs you will wear throughout you stay.
It is a VERY laid back island, perhaps harking back to the 80's attitude, so if you do go to my most treasured holiday haunt b21, then you are in for the most pleasant experiences you can ever imagine. Book that holiday b21 and count those days down to enjoy a truly memorable time of your life, and I guarantee you will go want to go back in 2014. |

Please cutback on starting new threads. Post replies to to existing threads on the subject.
If you want to cut and paste from your word processor do not do it directly.
First paste it into notepad or other basic ascii editor so that the formatting codes are removed, then cut again. This will give you clean posts.
