Date Posted:03/06/2004 10:04:19Copy HTML Has anyone experienced any tan thru effects with mesh thongs? from Dore? This would be the way to assure a total tan, all over (except where you shade yourself inside the pouch).

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:03/06/2004 11:12:25Copy HTML Dore's mesh is definitely tan-thru, a little more open than Solar suits. I'd guess around SPF 6-8. The problem is that they are fairly see-thru also. Unless it is a very busy print, you won't be able to go too many public places with it. If you go to the Dore swimwear group site on Yahoo, check the Monte photos and you'll see what I mean.

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:03/12/2004 01:55:55Copy HTML My favorite male tie-on "baggie" suit is made by Dore from her black mesh material. It is "see-thru" only for close-up, but from any distance, looks opaque. Originally, I thought it was too see-thru to wear in public, but I've been wearing it for tanning in public for a long time with no one complaining about see-thru, some beach rangers have asked for a "butt-strap". The really micro style like the Koala "Ultra-Extreme" which has no tan lines is the advantage, also allows you to Pee in the ocean without removing the "baggie".
Sailor-I'm now tempted to have Dore make one of the "baggies" in her white mesh, maybe I'll compromise on a bright green. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:03/12/2004 03:15:02Copy HTML I know you guys like to push the limit but I am a little worried that you are getting into the relm of exhibitionistic flashing. We don't need arrests. The 10 men arrested in Naples FL will make the presents of "the men in the dunes" a hot button for a while. I suggest that instead of going to simi-transparent and pushing the limit that way, you may want to think about how you can push the limit by going more places in your thongs. Regualr thongs on more beaches or more public sections of the beaches. |

I agree with you JM. Thongs as it has been discussed is different things to different people. To some it's just a swim/sunning suit, to others it's an aphrodisiac; a source of sexual/sensual excitement. Yet to others it's a blend of these two. But as it was reported regarding the incident with the old gay men in the dunes, extreme behavior may cause a backlash to thong wearers, or it may not. The general attitude of thong wearers (in the USA) ought to be to blend, not exhibit--to bring unneccessary attention to yourself (specially in a sexual way). Exhibition is usually illegal. No one will care if you're laying out in a very small, near transparent thong/g-string. But if you're walking around, bending over, swimming, etc. specially over and over again every few minutes, it just looks bad. Furthermore, it forces you unto others (who may complain) and thus bring about a general "sweeps" to get rid of these "undesireables". Is that what we really want?! Wearing opaque thongs is already daring enough, but on both coasts most people won't mind too much (some are actually amuzed!). Things can turn quickly when actual sexual organs can be easily viewed or wearer is only wearing what for all practical purposes is a rubber band (remember the budweiser radio commercial "mr. thong-bikini wearer"?) Anyway, if you're going for the extreme stuff, be cool and don't ruin it for the rest of us. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:03/15/2004 03:27:06Copy HTML I recently received a black mesh gstring from dore's which I have worn constanly (i live on a small sail boat curently in the french west indias) . While the barely 2 square inches of fabric is tan thru it is not really see thru. I ordered this gstring to replace a soild yellow gstring also from dore's that I had completly wore out. The soild yellow gstring was just as small as the black mesh but was totelly see thru when wet. And when it got older from being worn and bleached by the sun was even see thru when dry. I have worn condoms that covered up more than that yellow gstring did. The black mesh gstring is not even see thru when wet and is the best $13.50 I ever spent. The best thing about the black mesh is that it does not retain water and therefore is not wet all the time. When I swim back to my sailboat it is dry within minutes. And since this is all i wear all I have to do is wash it out in a little water and woolite. A great advantage for someone living on a small sailboat that carries very little water. I prefer to swim, run, sail, and snorkle in the nude. But when this is not possiple i wear a gstring almost daily. I have received nothing but compliments about it and get asked almost daily where I got it. It is true I have not been in the USA for about 2 years but I still dont feel like I am pushing the limits just because the fabric is very thin mesh. I wear this black mesh gstring daily to run on the beach where there are lots of familys with small children and no one have said any thing to me. So if you want to wear a tan thru meash gstring get it in black.

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:03/15/2004 03:26:18Copy HTML I have a couple of tan thru suits from Parr. Although tan through they are really no see thru, they don't tan thru that well either as I have worn them off and on and still do not seem to get very tan under the suit. I also agree with JM that pushing the envelope too far is counter productive. My wife and I and the friends we socialize with enjoy our freedom to wear minimal swimwear but try not to make a scene or force it upon anyone. We have also weeded out a few that seemed to think that wearing very small swimwear was suggesting something beyond just that. Those that have acted in ways that make the rest of us uncomfortable just are not asked to the next pool party or lake gathering. To have assembled a group of people like the ones that we spend time with and still have the comfort level we do is very rare and Jean and are are appreciative and protctive of that situation. By pushing the issue too far, the backlash ,I feel , effects everybody. |

Since I spend so much time in the sun totally nude i can not really say weather it tis truely tan thru or not since I am already totally tanned. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:05/10/2004 10:31:54Copy HTML I think I'll go ahead and order one of those strapless pouches from Dore. It looks like I will have to print their order form and mail it in. They don't really have online ordering. Whenever a ranger asked about a butt strap, were they really just asking if you were wearing a thong since they couldn't see one? One time when I was wearing a homemade G-string to Ft Desoto - East Beach, a ranger asked me if I was wearing a thong from inside his truck, because he couldn't see any rear strap or string. When I pulled up the string and said yes, he nodded his head approvingly and drove off. This one ranger in particular - Peterson used to be a well known S.O.B. to people who choose to go frontally nude in the park. They also had a policy of "trespassing" an offender from the park for a year, if cited for nudity. One Sheriff's deputy - Wilson, once warned nudists, it would be for life. I thought you might want to know, Ft Desoto has recently closed off the North Beach dunes to allow them to recover from damage due to too much pedestrian traffic. Here's the exact ordinance for Pinellas county parks: Chapter 90 (Parks and Recreation), Sec 90-2 (Definitions) "Nude, or any derivative thereof, shall mean to display or expose:
(1) The human male or female genitals or pubic area with less than fully-opaque covering;
(2) The portion of the human female breast directly or laterally below a point immediately above the top of the areaola with less than a fully opaque covering. . . .
(3) For puroposes of this definition, body paint, body dye, a tattoo, latex or any similar substance shall not be condsidered an opaque covering."

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:05/11/2004 01:18:44Copy HTML Nudist-
Thanks for the Chapter 90 information. The "baggies" seem to meet the requirements although there may be some argument regarding "pubic area" coverage. Most womens small bikinis and the male and female gstrings also dont cover the pubic area and I don't see people being cited. The Koala "Ultra-Extreme" has a cuff to address this requirement to some extent, though the cuff may not be noticeable to most viewers. Some of your shaft will be visible-like womens bra tops which really only cover the areola. I wear a Dore black mesh "baggie" at DeSoto and recommend it. The latest visit was for 10 days late April. The black mesh material is thin and partially see-thru close up, but not at any distance, probably will tan through also. Originally, I was hesitant to wear the mesh version, but I have never had a complaint regarding transparency, am now considering a light color mesh. If you want non-see thru, Dore also has a black woven mesh which is less transparent. |

Dore (she - not they) has all kinds of fabrics. Must be over 50 colors and patterns and different fabrics. A great majority are not mesh, thus not tan-thru. Lighter solid colors will tend to be see-thru. This is true for all suppliers. The ting with Dore is you can order any style - or variation, - in any fabric/color she has/ Go to her main sites starting at www.beach-n-danc.com |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:05/14/2004 03:59:21Copy HTML Fred, Since they closed the dune areas at the extreme end of North Beach, the main thong area is probably where you described it. It is just up from the south end of the North Beach Parking lot. There is a inlet that separates that part of the North Beach that is served by the parking lots. The beach that is on the other side of that inlet is where the thong area is. You can park on the grass in front of the ditch and walk to it. I've never seen the rangers or the sheriffs both any one except those who go nude or those who walk or set up inside of the dune restricted areas. If you go on the dunes the best you can hope for is a warning. I've seen some people get a ticket. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:05/14/2004 09:46:07Copy HTML After having jumped through all the hoops to join the Dore Yahoo group, I was unable find any photos of the strapless pouch. I found out nobody has any such photos. I would really like to see what the black mesh pouch looks like before I order one. On the recommended "black mesh" about how big are the holes? In millimeters? About as big-around to stick strand of thin spagetti through? I'm disappointed Dore lacks a toll-free phone number. I have always felt this is essential for running a mail order business. Maybe she's operating on a shoestring budget. When I do mail in my order, how long does it usually take to receive the merchandise? |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:05/15/2004 01:46:31Copy HTML Reply to : Nudist Holes are so tiny you could not even get a pin through them. I have been around partkrangers in the BVIs and not one said a word to me about it inside the park. This was on St johns island where there is a lot of familys and children around. As a mater of fact one talked to me for about an hour, about sailing etc.. He of course was in full uniform and I had nothing on but my litltle black mesh gstring . Mine took for every to arrive. I fianlly Emailed Dore to cancel the order. A day latter she sent me an Email stating that she had be out of town and appolgized over and over again. Got it the next day. Was worth the wait. As a person that prefers to run, sleep, swim and generally live in the nude this is the next best thing to being nude. I have not been in flordia recentlly but I can not imagine you haveing any trouble wearing one there. I know I would not hesitate to wear mine on any beach. I would not however wear the little yellow gstring in the US as it is completley see thru when wet, and now since it is well worn is even see thru to a great extent when dry. I do wear it here in the French west indies and have not had any negative reactions. However here nobody cares what you wear as long as you have on something. As this just barely qulifies as something. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:05/16/2004 06:29:03Copy HTML I think I know where you're talking about. There's a new pass there, formed by storms. You have to wade past some mangrove trees or cut through them on a path. I don't think the ranger can even drive their trucks in there, not that that even matters, since I'm not planning on breaking the law, but at least one doesn't have to feel they have rangers breathing down their necks or worry about getting accidently run over. Yes that has happened a few times and I think one tourist died. If you say the Dore mesh pouch allows tan-through, that would be the next best thing to going nude. I hate tan lines. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:05/17/2004 01:19:31Copy HTML I was wearing a regular gstring when talking to the ranger-specifically dore's "WOVEN mesh " gstring which is black. Although I am only 23 myself sometimes i too have been pointed to and have heard comments made about me parding around just about nude. I just ignore these comments and also try to avoid being around these insucure 18 to 23 year old males. This is not such a big problem in the caribenan where most males this age do only wear dork shorts but most dont care what you wear. As a matter of fact regularerly i will go either fishing, snorkling or surfing with a group and be the only one wearing a gstring and the others will all have on those stupid dork shorts. They all know that i prefer to be nude and that a gstring as all that i am going to wear. I hate any tan lines myself but find that the dore gstrings are so small (less that a 1/4" ) having back srings is not a problem. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:05/20/2004 09:54:10Copy HTML A Discussion of Mesh Fabrics
There has been some discussion of different mesh fabrics in this (and other) threads, but there? mesh and then there? mesh. All of our favorite suppliers offer some variety in fabrics and colors/patterns. Sometimes they are getting their materials from the same sources as each other and each may be using multiple sources. It starts to get a little complicated because each supplier, whether a manufacturer, simply a retailer, or a combination (selling the products of other manufacturers as well as their own,) will choose their own names for these fabrics/colors, and that is okay. There are different types of mesh fabrics as well. I am most familiar with those Dore offers and will discuss those, also in part because she offers such a variety. I believe she offers four different types of mesh: mesh, lycra mesh, and two types of woven mesh. The mesh and lycra mesh are similar in that they both are an open weave, semi-transparent fabric, and presumably offer a tan-thru capability, (though I have not tried to use this feature.) Patterns will obscure the wearer? anatomy inside the suit to a greater degree than the solid colors, and darker colors will obscure more than lighter colors. All will permit some ability to see what? inside at closer ranges and with a study of the wearer in the suit. Some may effectively hide the anatomy, and others will make it very obvious and approach full transparency. The lycra mesh is apparently more stretchy than the regular mesh, but otherwise they appear similar. It is quite possible that the degree of stretchiness varies within these two categories, depending upon the specific fabric/color/pattern choice. One would be wise to not make too many assumptions about this from one color/pattern to the next, even if they are labeled as the same type of fabric. Dore also has two different fabric types she calls ?oven mesh.? The original type is the very tight weave mentioned above. This fabric has a definite texture, and feels rougher on the body (compared with lycra fabrics. ?Most mesh fabrics are not as smooth or soft as lycras in my experience.) It does not leave any holes for a see through effect and I don? believe it provides and tan-thru ability. This fabric has some stretch, but less than most lycra fabrics. It is available from Dore in a pale yellow, a pale blue, white, coral (solid color between orange and pink), and black. Dore also has a different sort of ?oven mesh?offered in ?essert red?and ?ntique gold.? This has small holes in a pattern determined by the weave. It reminds me more of crochet, if you know what that is. This fabric is stretchier than the other woven mesh. I can? comment on the degree of see-thru or tan-thru, but I suspect that the see-thru is limited and any display-of-anatomy effect is more a matter of how the fabric clings to the body and/or becomes transparent when wet (to the extent that it may do this,) than any actual transparency of the dry fabric. I don? believe it would be a good fabric for achieving a tan-thru effect. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:02/20/2021 06:15:28Copy HTML Has anyone found a favorite mesh or tan thru suit? I've gotten several from swirlfashion on ebay. Many are not really "see thru" except up close, but they tan thru just fine-- no tan lines, everything is tanned! As we've said a patterned fabric tricks the eye. I've gotten some mesh fabrics which have two colors of fibers and the "holes" are through and offset in the fibers- not too see thru but tan thru. I've walked down the board walk in Miami Beach in one - no problems.

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:09/12/2021 07:55:51Copy HTML I've notices something about mesh fabric--- the black and near black colors aren't letting as much sun thru- I usually want them for the tan thru asspect! Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:04/20/2022 11:36:44Copy HTML Someone was just talking about getting some mesh or net thongs to wear at somewhat public places. My experience is that there's a fine line between sexy and creepy in the eyes of some people so you have to judge where to wear them and when. Some are fine when people are 50 ft or more away, but are more explicit up close.
I've found too that it's better to get a design where the back or straps doesn't reveal what exactly the front is going to show.
There are some thong designs with lace/wide mesh or net that's on the back and waistband as well as the pouch. When you're on your stomach then it's going to be obvious to everyone- including authorities that the pouch will be see thru. Butt if it's a string design on the waist/back then the net front won't be obvious while you're on your stomach.
Now some I have are open enough that from afar you can't tell the pouch from my skin even though the fabric is another brighter color- it's just not enough there, and that can be confusing to people or they think I'm nude if they don't see the waist string.
This factor isn't one I'm willing to try on SouthBeach-it's too public/conventional- now some resort pools or open thinly populated beaches yes.
Butt many meshes I have aren't really see thru to the eye butt the sun tans thru just fine. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:04/24/2022 08:12:55Copy HTML Recently got a email promotion from Good Devil with pix of some new styles. There were several styles modeled on Crandon Park Beach- I can tell from the distinct crosshatch rails on the lifeguard stations. What caught my eye was that a few styles with net mesh were being shown as beach swimwear including a Bram Thong which in black seems very see thru at 10 feet.
Don't know if this is an in dick ation that they or others feel these are cool on Miami area beaches? Seems they'd be bait for Karen Coverup to drop a dime to cause some trouble! |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:04/25/2022 03:44:01Copy HTML Interesting. This link is what came up when I searched for "swimwear" on the Good Devil website: https://www.gooddevil.com/collections/swimwear
Only one thong (GD0772 White Ocean Swim Thong) listed as swimwear, so I would guess that the photo of the Bram Thong in a beach setting might be as encouragement.
However, Skiviez has a couple of Daniel Alexander thongs listed in the swimwear section which are half (or more) mesh in the front. (https://www.skiviez.com/collections/swimwear/products/daniel-alexander-dak057-thong) (https://www.skiviez.com/collections/swimwear/products/daniel-alexander-dak056-thong)
I guess it's up to the customer to determine if they are legal to wear at your usual beach. |

Re:Mesh fabric- tan thru? Date Posted:02/01/2025 02:51:43Copy HTML Seems men's as well as women's minimal swimwear makers are selling more and more mesh and thus tan thru suits- I own many ! Oh course there are many degrees of transparency- from no see thru to obviously see thru. I have a few I call "look thru"- which are unremarkable at a glance- but look carefully or stare and there is some transparency. I got that name from overhearing a girl telling another girl "....no look carefully and you can see everything"
I deal with the tan thru by just slathering nude before putting on the suits (in private usually- duh) and the degree of tanlines is very small, though I often don't wear on suit for over a couple of hours for variety since I have so many.
Depending on pouch size , lift , push out etc I may get less tan in folds around my C and B, unlike being nude and free.
Many womens suits offer now a mesh top and opaque bottoms now that visible areola are fully acceptable in some areas. If I were a female I'd welcome not having to deal with top tanlines in other dresses etc! Don't know why they don't market tan thru tops for this reason? |
