I've been wearing thongs for years. A lot of people have seen me in a thong swimsuit and know about it, but very, very few people bring it up directly with me. It's rare.

- Are they uncomfortable?
- Are they trying to avoid making me feel uncomfortable?
- Is it a taboo?
- Is this OK and not worth discussing?

I don't know but very few people talk to me about my thong swimsuits.

Two weeks ago, we had a barbecue with friends from my triathlon club.

I don't remember how it happened, but a woman (F/40) mentioned my thong swimsuit. She was on my right. She said I wasn't allowed to wear my thong at the pool anymore because it's against the rules.
Her boyfriend, sitting to my left, burst out laughing and said I must be the only person who’s not allowed to wear a thong at the pool. He probably noticed that there are plenty of girls wearing thongs at the pool.
I then explained that I no longer wear my thong to club practices because the club officials have forbidden me to do so, supposedly because it’s against the pool rules, but that I’ve been wearing my swim thong again since last summer when I swim alone during public hours and no one says anything to me.
The conversation was open and friendly because I know they're very open-minded.
Unluckily my wife didn't hear this conversation.

What about you? Have people ever talked to you about your thong swimsuits?

Last year when I was at the beach at the French Mediteranian, an older guy set up next to me. I was wearing a black thong, and he was about 5-10 meters away from me. After a while as I came back from a swim, he noticed I was wearing a thong. He said ‘these are cool’ with a french accent, which made me think he was french. I said thanks, and because my french is not very good, there was no further conversation. But I’m sure if my French was better we would have had a nice talk.

Over the years I’ve had many conversations with fellows at the beach on the subject of what I’m wearing that day: bikinis, thongs and g-strings. In the past few seasons I’ve bought a number of thongs and g-strings from Temu. At the beach they are frequently the subject of conversation. Some have been exceptional while others not so much. The modest cost has allowed me to buy extras that I liked. Others that haven’t worked out so well for me I have given away at the beach. Easy to do when the cost is next to nothing – when they pretty much cover next to nothing.

Yes, those who are bold enough speak up. Often its complimentary. One tall black male observed my many thong visits at the beach. Noticed with his expression their was some sort of on going dialogue which i was never privy, towards a female friend of his. Appearing topic was about my thong never knew for sure but assumed so on how they were focusing upon me in discussions.

Many visits later the same black Jamaican male approached saying he was never convinced initially thongs for men ever works. After observing me several times discussing it with his counterpart female friends at the beach previously, changed his perception. Saying it looks good on me better then he once thought. He never said why. Only that after close observation of me believing it appeared far to feminine. After many visits to the beach  in a thong showering walking to my towel, watching me, it sort of grew on him. Realizing man can rock thong just fine and cool as much as any women. He wasn't ever sure to wear thong himself, thinking it might be a stretch. But said he think about it.

Reason people don't mention the topic is feeling embarrassed  taboo subject. Find those in authority have difficulty saying the words thong. Least of all to get the message across to wear more or coverup.

Not that other care making thonger uncomfortable but they themselves feel its too sexualized. Therefore many remain silent or ignore the thonger. Unless thonger is constant visiting  location those that recognize his or her thong. Whereas many haters go behind your back to rectify the thonger  choice making excuses to banish his swimwear style.

I was in a dive bar in California a couple of years ago. The usual dive bar experience - cheap beer, pool, live music, etc. I noticed a 20-something woman confidently walking through the bar with a crop top & her g-string straps riding high on her hips above her jeans. Having a few beers on board, I complimented her on her confidence & told her that her underwear choice was similar to mine, where I pulled the side of my Doreanse Aire String Thong strap out from above my jeans to show her. She complimented me back & parted with: "That's very Y2K of you!"

For me, the people who talk about my thongs is usually my wife. For some reason, it is been brought up in many conversations that my preferred choice for swimwear are thongs. Somehow there will be a topic or reference to something not related to water, sports, beach, or anything like that and she’ll just say something about me wearing my thongs out and about. I think I’m her trophy husband! I’ll take that… This has happened in get togethers with close friends at church, during one of my kids high school graduation parties with friends and family, her on a girls trip, or other get-togethers. I really don’t mind it as long as it’s with closer friends and everyone has at least had a good chuckle about it. I’m very confident in wearing my thongs out and about in front of anybody who’s around, so her telling people in conversations, at least people will know what they’re getting into if they’re with us on vacation or in the hot tub or something. I think someway it will also normalize thong wearing in general.

I was riding a bike through inner Sydney yesterday, wearing a red Doreanse aire g-string under my jeans. I obviously wasn't paying enough attention, as a random bloke on the footpath walking past me when I was stopped at a red light casually said "Hey mate, I can see your g-string..." & kept on walking.

I haven't had anyone in conversation at the beach bring up my thong. I have got compliments of great tan, legs, or you look good in that color. The style has never been brought up which is fine by me. This is a step towards acceptance.
