CHSnudist: here's the thing about the "back country" area - CNS is a protected area and the entire beach, from Titusville to New Smyrna Beach is over 20 miles.
With your fee the NPS gives you access to the beach ONLY up to lot #13 on the south end (from Titusville) and down to lot #5 from the north end (New Smyrna Beach).
A short distance from those end points (basically the area between them) is miles and miles of empty, wild beach.

That extra $$ for the Back Country pass gives you access to that middle area - but its wilderness so they need to have an idea who's out there. The only way the Rangers can find you is if they come out on a 4-wheeler looking for you. SO, if you don't mind a little walking, 1/2 to a mile hiking on the beach could mean you will spend an entire day all by yourself, with maybe only an occasional walker coming by.

Its lovely and worth doing. But it is NOT orgies and cruising in the dunes etc. Sex play and stuff may happen from time to time (we're all human) but that's not really the scene. Now, if you happen to have a partner WITH you it'll be fun ;-)

I've gotten the pass one time a couple years ago. It was nice to have a little extra space to go. Next time I'm there I'll get it.

Thx for the info gw.

I guess we don't need to go that far enjoy ourselves, to find a spot where we are totally alone without the possibility of seeing anyone else walk past us all day.
We enjoy the sites. We were down there in May. Only one time did we walk all the way to the sign. Our thighs were so sore from walking through that soft sand we said the heck with walking farther.
So we don't need a pass.

Who knows. If the sand was harder and people could actually bike on the beach, then yeah, we would grab a pass.

Heading down to Florida next week and looking forward to my first thonging at a beach/pool this year! Staying in Orlando one night and going to use their pool the next day. Hoping to get a good base tan there. Then we head over to the Melbourne area but probably won’t get any thonging or bikini time through the week because we are staying with family. However on our way home we are going to Playalinda Beach for a day and will for sure soak up the sun in my thong that day! If we arrive around 10 ish will lot 13 be full by then? Just curious how busy it is down there around this time. I’m assuming I’ll be totally fine walking the beach in a thong from parking 10-12?

I would suggest you getting there by 8:00 a.m. if you want to park in the very last parking lot otherwise you got to stop one parking lot short and park your car and then walk down to the last parking lot and past that boardwalk to the nude area. But my question is why would you wear a thong at a nude or clothing optional beach? To me that's like wearing a tuxedo to the beach.

Just got back from our little vacation to Florida and wanted to share my experience. Overall it wasn’t that eventful.. visiting with family really hurts you being able to get away. We drove down to Orlando to stay the night at a Hotel there and after dinner my wife and I had a room that had a sliding door that went right out to the pool. Really nice to be able to throw on a Desmitt thong and we went to the hot tub. We were the only ones and it was a little cold that night so we didn’t stay long that night. Next day we decided to hit up the pool in the morning. Again, alittle cold but sunny.. so I laid out in my Desmitt thong again and tried to get as much sun as possible before we left. The pool had a enclosed deck area by the hot tubs that were very private actually and really only people on the higher floors overlooking the pool would have been able to see. A few people popped in and saw me laying out but they were just checking out the deck but nothing too eventful. We spent the whole week at a house on the beach and I didn’t get any time away to layout or anything.. but on our last day we left around 8am and drove up to Playalinda Beach that I had planned to do but unfortunately it was pretty cold that day. Very sunny but a bit on the cold side but that didn’t stop us from going. We drive up to the park and I just wanted to check it out and get some thonging in. We drove all the way down to 13 just to see the whole thing. Only 10 cars were there total at all the parking lots. We parked at 11 and were the only ones around and went out to the beach for the day. It was pretty cold but in the sun it actually was ok. I wore a skinz thong the whole time and occasionally a few people would walk out at the board walk and could see us. I walked a couple times to the bathroom in just my thong and felt totally free and had a few cars pass me on the road. Toward the end my wife and I decided to walk down to 13 to look for shells. There were about 6-7 guys nude down there and a few couples from what I could see. It was super quiet and low key. Really felt good walking around with no worries. Never been to a nude beach and I prefer to thong instead of going nude but felt great to be at a beach finally where a thong is more than what anyone else is wearing. I need to go back at a busier time though..

There are no showers for several miles from the nude areas. There is no water line! There are only pit toilets out there. If you bring your own water then it's up to you. I've been there some weekends when there's a ranger in a pickup of side by side at the parking lots consistently and sometimes when I don't see one down there at all. when they aren't there, usually weekdays I've seen people changing nude in the lot

Question for the locals, would it be big gamble with the weather to spend New Years weekend here or would it be smart to continue further south? It’s already a 10 hour drive. Thanks

Too soon to predict weather for Christmas / New Years weekend. Hotel bookings in the Christmas / New Year week are full on high season. However, due to the pandemic it is possible many will not be fully booked up. Therefore you may be able to change plans at the last minute, based on next weeks weather report, or keeping it lose and planning day to day.

I drove out to Apollo / Canaveral today. The entry cost is $20 now, but that gets you a 7-day pass. I drove all the way down to parking lot 5 and got one of the last few parking spots. However, I was one of the only people in a thong (I did see one other gentleman). Everyone else was totally nude. I honestly felt a little out of place with my suit on, but I would never go fully nude. Is there a better thonger’s area at one of the other lots?

He's talking about Apollo 5 not Playalinda 5. Nude is Apollo 5 - the southernmost and Playalinda 13 the northernmost-- and the miles in between are "back country"

As we in the northeast dreadfully head toward winter, I’d like to ask locals about winter months down here. Given cold fronts run through Florida, is it typical to have beach weather more often than not? Saving an additional 3 or so hours from driving further south to blind creek or Miami would be great if possible! Thanks for any input

Re:Playalinda / Apollo beaches, Canaveral National Seashore in Volusia and Brevard County FL

Well it's hard to generalize-- in Central Fla they get "winter" which is just a bit too cold for the beach. I've had dependable beach days in December usually around 70 to 80. Jan and Feb may be more variable and not nearly as warm as say Palm Beach County to Miami Dade County. Even in Jan and Feb a day may be 60 in West Palm Beach, 70 in Miami and 50 in Titusville. You'll have to make a decision based on forecasts a couple of days out from your arrival!

Recently got an opportunity to get to Playalinda on a few weekend days. The number of people was more than weekends a few years ago. On a Sat. I got there at about 1 pm and had to park at 11. There weren't nudes on the beach south of 12 and many overflow people were just walking the 5 min down the roadside- easier and faster than the beach. At 12 and north it's all nude..... They now have signs up a few places saying "on boardwalk 13 you may encounter nude sunbathing" I don't know why they just don't "right size" the area and make it 11-13. They'd probably increase their gate count at least 50 more cars each day because people won't stay away fearing parking issues. From a thong "stand-point" was able to stand and point when I wore some outrageous suits with some positive, no negative, including my new "bandage sling" which straps me straight up, a straps shaft G string and a "bonerkini thong" which points the way forward! My tan- thru Headkini popped me out for some sun! I have never seen so many "decorated" guys with all sorts of cockrings, and things. I saw a guy with his nude girl sporting a chastity stainless steel fitting on a g string. On the females only one lipkini and several TNG. When I set up in my headkini near a couple , him nude she TNBikini, she studied me over then flipped over and impped her bikini up- looked like she wasn't usually doing that from her tanlines. Later she was extreme imping- may have ended up with some bun burns. A few times when walking down the beach I saw I was getting one handed ovations from some guys. Each day I got a Back Country Pass for the extra $5. One day there were only a few people up there well north of 13. There was a MF couple nude who took a walk beyond me and stepped up high facing the dunes and first she dropped to her knees for a meaty lunch then afterwards he had a juicy light lunch occasionally wiping his chin while she stood raised her arms facing into the sun while lurching in pleasure. Then later there was a MM couple who did standing meals for each other then went down the water and washed off. There were a few single guys enjoying themselves without disturbing anyone.

For Playalinda the closest concentration of lodging is really at highway 50/Cheney and I -95. There are several places there for every budget from Days Inn , Quality Inn, Hampton Inn Holiday Inn, Ramada , Best Western and places to eat. Then you go north to Garden St to go across Titusville to the causeway. For Apollo there aren't many places in New Symrna Beach even at I-95 probably because those coming from the north would stay in Daytona.

MattTW88 “ Do any other couples visit playalinda in thongs regularly?” Not as regularly as I would like since I no longer live in Florida but every time I return which is a few times a year we do. I like that nudity is spreading south from lot 13. On my lat trip lot 12 area was about 50/50 textile and nude. I am good with either, it just depends on my mood while my wife prefers a thong.

I prefer lot 12 because I like to just go nude. But for thongs, I heard that lot 1 is kind of crowded and more family oriented but I don't know that for sure.....If I were wearing a thong, I would go anywhere from lot 5 through lot 8. Lot 10 is closed under construction. At least it was last week....The farther you go it gets less people. My thinking is lots 1-4 is more family. But that is just me.......But it is legal to thong anywhere at Playalinda. Never had any real problems with anyone but there seems to be that one person who does not seem to think thongs are OK. So I tend to stay away from crowds......Stay away from fat women with kids..lol.....

I have not been since last summer and then only twice. Both time it was lot 12. I recall it being about 50% thongs or topless and 50% nude. Nobody was overdressed. There were even nude children. I thought it was a great mix, especially if you are hesitant to go completely nude.

Playalinda is textile and families on the south end parking/beach areas. Northern lot 13 is nude, lot 12 was mostly nude. I walked south to lot 11 area and saw more textile. I suspect the extent of nude bathers is governed by availability of parking and probably avoiding clashes with the intolerant.m None of the beach is legally nude but it is federal land clothing requirement is not enforced. Lot 13 area has been nude as long as I can remember.

I made it to Playalinda finally and from about lot 11 higher it is small suits and nude. I did see one other man in a thong and several small swim briefs while walking before it turned to almost all nude. It seems like when 13 fills up, the nude crowd spills further south without issue. I prefer to wear a thong and was able to enjoy a day in a Gregg homme thong.

Re:Playalinda / Apollo beaches, Canaveral National Seashore in Volusia and Brevard County FL

I'm wondering why the park service doesn't make the nude area adapt to the number of beachgoers? They could put up permanent signs saying "watch for signs lot 10-13" then on some weekends when they expect a lot of people put out temporary signs at the walk over and near end of the parking area saying Nude Area at Lot 10 for instance....and on weekdays at Lot 11 or 12 depending on the time of the day. So this seems like a lot of work?? Well I bet on some weekend and weekdays especially in the summer that up to 50 percent more people would show up for the nude areas if they knew there was parking and they didn't have to walk from 10 to 12 to get naked! What does that mean for the park?? well their gate numbers would get them an increased budget! I don't know that they put a lot of enforcement into people at the edges of the nude area, but I've heard of people at 11 getting hassled, but not at 12. Likewise they won't have to deal with phone calls from Karens at the 11 and 12 lots. Seeing as it's already a small part of the beach I don't think textile people will be worried over losing beach area, unlike at Haulover if the nude area expanded anymore south.
MattTW88 #337

Re:Playalinda / Apollo beaches, Canaveral National Seashore in Volusia and Brevard County FL

Date Posted:05/23/2022 10:45:34Copy HTML

Especially considering that textile beach parking is almost never close to being full. It would be easy enough to extend the nude parking south and keep every body happy. I wonder if there's a way to kick off that process?
Thongsrbest #338

Re:Playalinda / Apollo beaches, Canaveral National Seashore in Volusia and Brevard County FL

Date Posted:05/23/2022 12:22:44Copy HTML

Keep in mind that the nudity is tolerated, not sanctioned. It is still illegal. Push for expansion and you may get the opposite result of it being restricted. A better approach is to have an area where it is legally permitted.
sailor250 #339

Re:Playalinda / Apollo beaches, Canaveral National Seashore in Volusia and Brevard County FL

Date Posted:05/23/2022 09:43:39Copy HTML

It's probably not an overstatement to say that it would take an act of Congress to get a nude area "sanctioned"... whatever that would mean- because functionally it's already working. The Park super would probably be the one to start an initiative. Wanting to get a larger gate count might or might not be what they want. I don't know the politics of the NPS but some people in management are content to keep the status quo. What's the worst that could happen if it were expanded?? Well someone or some group in the local community could say they're offended and start a petition to stop nudity everywhere. Brevard County as you might know is one of the few counties in Fla where thongs are technically illegal. But if some signs just showed up someday and moved around people probably wouldn't have any beef and nude users would catch on and soon wouldn't stay away for fear of no parking.

To clarify, the Brevard Co. making thongs illegal ONLY applies to the areas controlled by the County.  Other jurisdictions have their own laws, and e.g., Cocoa Beach does NOT have a problem with thongs/g-strings -- they just are not common.  But, then contrast that to Melbourne and Melbourne Beach -- whoo, hoo!

It would be wonderful if 13 & 12 were designated CO officially but I think the park service having a hands-off tolerance and the addition of the signs about possibly encountering nude sunbathing is a perfect compromise. Brevard county, and Titusville in particular, is pretty church-y and activism about the beach might go the wrong way. People love Playalinda (for good reason) and everyone gets along pretty well. Too much sexual activity, as much fun as it is, and there will probably be trouble. I’ve been in a thong several times at lots 9 or 10 when 12&13 were full with no problems. 9, 10, 11 are often pretty quiet on weekdays, too. The only time I’ve ever had an issue was once at 10 I casually took off my thong to dry off before putting clothes on to leave and a ranger, who was passing by, drove over and asked me not to do that. I just said “ok, sorry. I was only changing”.

Playalinda is definitely pretty progressive as far as being nude and or minimal swimwear. I frequently thong at playalinda and seen many other men do the same. A lot of times though I've just caught glimpses of other guys thongs as they're undressing down to nothing.

We’ve been to both and enjoy Apollo the most. Less parking means less crowds. We live north of Canaveral, too, making Apollo more convenient PLUS we love the town of New Smyrna Beach. We noticed that “spill over” into lower numbered parking areas was okay at Apollo, too.
