Re:Playalinda / Apollo beaches, Canaveral National Seashore in Volusia and Brevard County FL

Recently got to the central fla coast. Since Playalinda's closed went up to Apollo Beach. New Symrna Beach is about 45 min further from Orlando than Playalinda. After Nicole most all of the lots at Apollo are open. Only 5 is officially nude and hard to get a parking place there. Twice I did at 1030am and 1pm and there were almost all nude people there. I've heard some nudists complaining that clothed fisherman are taking the parking places?? Once when I couldn't find a spot at 5 in the morning I went to 4 and thought I'd walk south a ways and yes I found some nudies quickly. It turns out 4 north and south more than about 30 yards from the stairs was nude. While near 4 I saw an ATV approaching so pulled on a G string but turned out it wasn't a ranger but an ununiformed guy ?lifeguard and he didn't bother any nudies at all. Saw a couple of thongs and G's on guys and a couple of women TNG. Not a big sample butt I think the women looked better than often at Playalinda- didn't see any of the bigger than pregnant grandma types.

Must say these two beaches - when open- are probably the longest stretch of beach in the US where you can walk legally nude for over 10 miles! let us know if you know of a longer strand that is nude! There are places to hike more miles in the desert in the SWUS but not sanctioned legal nude. Now that Playalinda is closed you can walk south from Apollo but after a ways from 5 you're supposed to have a back country permit- for a few bucks! I bought one the first day- but I didn't see any sign warning you need one beyond a point, like at Playalinda- but it might have been washed away in Nicole. they warn you about debris on the beach and there was a lot of wood, vegetation and trash, but I didn't see much sharp or dangerous for your feet-- but that's a worry when swimming.. it was too rough to swim when I was there, but saw a few dudes nude surfing and one chick with them- didn't see her hanging ten but she was erasing tanlines! While at beaches with nude/maybe nude zones I always watch to see if individuals or couples taking a walk are carrying a suit or cover. Here no one was- even at Apollo 4. Sure you might see someone who's uninformed and you have to understand too someone may have a thong under their hat to pull out if an authority finds them nude where they shouldn't be.

Never been to Apollo....Playalinda is a favorite for me. I'll be in that area most of April and part of May. Last year the same. Went to Playalinda maybe 5-6 times. Daily pass is 15.00 maybe more. I can't remember..Yearly is 40.00. Lifetime is 80.00.....Weekends tend to get crowded. I prefer to go during the week. Just wear something in the parking lot.....I went to my car in just a g-string and a Ranger passed by and just kept going....It was a fairly skimpy string but was OK...I was not sure but now I know.

Don't know of anyone else has seen the damage Nicole did to Playalinda but they're saying that the park opening may take a looong time! Basically the road is under feet of sand, and most bathrooms look like they're under feet of sand. The dune between the road and beach is mostly gone. The vegetation beside the road is all gone- looks like a moonscape. They wisely say now they're not building the monstrous steps/ramps to access the beach but putting down mats on paths. They don't need the steps now since it's all flat. They've said they're not going to make a manmade dune but if they bulldoze the sand off the road that's what they'll have to do! They say the low number lots will open first. Seeing how the park service works it could be this time next year or 2024 before the last lots are fixed!! Anyone visiting probably better plan to use Apollo which from the south is another 45 min of driving!

WOW I just checked their facebook and they are going to open Playalinda 1-7 lots on Jan3!! Nobody allowed to walk north of 7, no backcountry permits. Don't know if they'll make 7 temporary nude or not?? That would be nice- just modify that sign and put 7 instead of 12! The photos and aerial views I've seen must have been north of 7. There was almost a cut thru the road/beach to the lagoon to the west at one point! That would have meant the end of the road without a bridge! The old NASA structures at 12 I don't think are used any more, and I'm sure power is cut!

I was thinking of going down to Playilinda in the spring. With this said does anyone think that Lot 7 will become the new 13?

Anyone know if they put up a sign designating/warning at lot 7? I think lot 7 is larger than 13 so that would be a plus, and I think 6 is closer to 7 than 12 to 13. I was amazed how the Apollo lots were further apart- it's over 1 1/2 miles between the last two lots!

Oh Brother- I knew this was going to happen!! Beach Karens are running off about finding nude people at Playalinda's last open parking lot. Y'all call the sheriff now. I don't know why the park rangers didn't put some signs out-- a sandwich sign with stuck on letters at the street end of the boardwalk would have stopped this. Maybe they're afraid they'd have to go through some rules and regulations committee in DC to do that?? The latest updates say they have the whole road cleared and they plan on opening 13 soon- no mention of 12 but they do say that other high number lots will be closed for a while. At least I hope they have parking at 12 too. https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/florida-beachgoers-complain-of-unexpected-encounters-with-nudists

Playalinda got another surprise the other day I see when the roadway north of lot 7 got flooded, underwater because of a high tide. They say they have to assess what that means for continued access thru there and if this will damage the road. This means they probably should put up some signs at 7 for nude use and we'll have to get used to a smaller/shorter beach. I haven't walked thru there but it looks like north of 7 is a narrow beach and low. This might mean another little storm will put a wash thru to the lagoon and cut off the beach at least at high tide, so no longer a 5 plus mile stretch of nudie beach with back country pass!

Do you know if 12 and below is open? Or if the parking at 13 is full do people still go nude at 7? I don’t want to drive all the way there, book a hotel and have 13 too full to even be able to use.

Below is what is posted on the National Park Service website, as of June 22, 2023. I just called (386) 428-3384 to confirm and the automated announcement says only parking lots 1 through 5 and 7 are open. All parking lots north of 7 are not accessible by road or beach. You may have to try lot #5 at Apollo beach instead. https://www.nps.gov/cana/planyourvisit/hours.htm Areas Closed Temporarily in Playalinda District Alert 2, Severity closure, Areas Closed Temporarily in Playalinda District *Playalinda Beach parking areas 6, 8 thru 13 & backcountry hiking are temporarily closed, barring any future circumstances. The park staff will continue to work to open the roadway as soon as possible.

For playalinda, I have stayed about 20 minutes away at Marriott hotels; Towne place (nice kitchen!) and Fairfield inn. May be closer places but this is location is doable.

Noticed that the park has now made available "special use permits" for gatherings and weddings. Makes me wonder if any one has put together a beach nude wedding or a thong wedding - with all the guests participating ? Anyone been to Playalinda lately? I've heard beyond 6 still is closed and 6 is defacto nude section now? Seems they've been hit with several other non hurricane storms!

Just spent the weekend in the Titusville area and journeyed out to Playalinda Beach. Friday afternoon I was easily able to find a parking spot in lot 13. On Saturday the place was crowded. To access boardwalk 13 some were waiting in their cars at the turnaround waiting for a car to leave. Others would park at other lots and walk, bike or use an e-scooter to get to boardwalk 13. I lucked out and found a parking spot in lot 11. I walked to the beach there and low and behold everyone was 'au natural.' It seems nudists overflow down from 13. I did not see other nudists further south than 11. There was a mix of clothed and nude at 11 and no one seemed to care. No park rangers were present and from reading other posts they seem to let it be, unless of course you happen to walk on a dune.

As for Playalinda, the Canaveral National Seashore is part of the U.S. National Park Service. For those of us 62+, purchasing a one-time senior lifetime pass for $80.00 is a bargain if you plan to go to Playalinda at least four times in the future. I plan to purchase my pass soon. If you are current military or a veteran, you can get a free annual pass as well as a free lifetime pass. https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/passes.htm#america-the-beautiful-passes The America the Beautiful—the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass covers entrance fees and standard amenity (day-use) fees at lands managed by the following entities: National Park Service US Fish & Wildlife Service US Forest Service Bureau of Land Management Bureau of Reclamation US Army of Corps of Engineers Depending on the type of entrance fee charged at a site, the pass covers one private vehicle fee or four per person fees.

The national park passes are a good deal and the price for seniors can be earned back in a few visits. However if you're former US military, the lifetime pass is free with a $10 card issuance fee. Had mine for years now.

just returned from a visit to the New Smyrna. wanted to post short update. at apollo parking lot 4 is closed, the ranger said it will be repaired AFTER repairs are finished down at Canaveral. at lot 5 stair are still OPEN, but the "cart ramp" is closed, due to a small separation in the grating and lots of sand deposited there (no information on repair). everyone was very dispersed when we visited on a Saturday, parking spaces available (temp low 70's). at Canaveral on Sunday storm rolled in, no real sand time. noted that the even numbered lots all seem closed for repair (2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10). I think there was six cars at lot 13 when we arrived. the most hurricane damage was at lot 8 and stretched for 1/4 to 1/2 mile north toward lot 9. otherwise, dune breaches were observable but not significant

Expansion of SpaceX launches could close the beach up to 60 days a year because of area cleared for rocket safety and rocket returns! The closures could even be greater when launch scrubs are rescheduled causing two days of closure. May see a shift to Apollo Beach which won't be closed- butt has few parking spaces and from southern locations is about 45min farther away than Playalinda. https://www.zmescience.com/science/news-science/nudists-are-furious-over-elon-musks-plan-to-expand-spacex-launches-in-florida-and-theyre-fighting-back/

Seems the warning signs up at Playalinda may be caught in a dragnet for DEI sort of stuff. Seems the word "nude" in the sign might offend someone? So far seems like just talk- or they may have to take down/ alter the sign. So far no effect on the actual nudity on the beach- "just don't tell anyone about it--ah - I feel better about that". Overall might be better to not post a notice so Karens don't drive all the way out there to look/complain about the nudies. Maybe they should hold a contest for what the new sign should say. My vote goes to "All those going to Boardwalk 13 should leave their swimsuits here before proceeding" and have a rack of hooks/pegs for everyone to hang their suits on the sign while they drive on and enjoy the beach without them! https://talkoftitusville.com/2026/03/13/playalindas-warning-sign-about-the-clothing-optional-area-under-federal-scrutiny/

I was in Daytona Beach for a week and it was cold the entire time I was there. I did manage to get in a few walks and bike rides on the beach, wearing a tear drop g-string. There were a few looks, a few snickers, and a few pictures taken. It didn’t phase me one bit. It was also not very crowded because it was so cold. It finally warmed up today and I was able to squeeze in a couple hours before leaving town. One woman was taking pictures of the “beach” as I was walking by. I politely asked her to take a picture of me, with my phone, so I can show it to like minded friends back home. I spent yesterday afternoon at Apollo Beach, near Cape Canaveral. It was my second visit to the beach. It was also cold, but I got over it. It quickly reminded me of how wonderful it is to be at one with nature. I had zero apprehension whatsoever. My suit came off as soon as I was at the end of the boardwalk. I also asked a fellow naturist to take my picture. My goal in 2026 is to unapologetically wear a thong or g-string as much as legally possible. I also plan to visit a few naturist resorts with some friends, go on an underwear ride wearing just a thong, go to a venue that hosts naked bowling, etc. For future travel, I hope to attend Fantasy Fest in Key West. It’s been on my bucket list for a couple years.
