I'm looking for ward to time on the beach and to see how a man in thong swim wear goes this time. I'm staying at a more upscale hotel so it should be interesting. If it is anything like last year all should be good, fun and enjoyable. I've never had an issue wearing a thong in Peurto Rico anywhere on the island.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this beach area, or know if any of the Wyndham's amenities are open to non-guests?

I was there for work for some of it and we stayed a couple extra days. I wore a thong around the pool and beach with zero issues, there was 1 other guy with a Speedo but that's it on the male side. I did get many smiles and what seemed like looks of approval. Now when it comes to the ladies, the thongs and cheeky suits my wife was wearing had more coverage than what probably half the women were wearing. Women not in cheeky, thong or g-strings were absolutely in a small minority! When it comes to the darker skinned women, probably 75% of them were in g-strings, for most of them their long braids covered more of their asses than their swimsuits did....it was spectacular!!! |

I ran in the morning in a thong and g-string a few times as well. The beaches were pretty quiet for the most part. I did interact with a few folks while wearing a thong and there was no reaction to my swimwear. While I imagine I did get a few extra looks, I didn't notice and certainly nobody said anything. We did a few of the waterfalls from El Yunque, and I wore a square cut or bikini over my thong, although the thong was noticeable if you looked. No comments, just a few extra looks. |

I have read it is quite homophobic and a guy wearing a thong could be perceived as effeminate. I am not saying he is, just the way he could be viewed on a carribean island. |

I have worn a thong at resort pools, public beaches and out on a few boats. I’ve never had a problem wearing a thong in Puerto Rico, from San Juan to Ricon, to Fajardo, and Ponce. You will see many women wearing thong bikinis, a few men in bikini cut or typical Speedo cut suits and all the typical board shorts as well. I’ve always had positive reactions to my choice of swimwear and a great deal of fun. |

One caution air conditioning is on full in most business often. If you go I do encourage you to get out to En El Yunque rainforest. There are beautiful waterfalls you can swim in, gorgeous scenery and great hiking to amazing vistas. The Old fort in Old San Juan is amazing. Old SanJuan is a great place to explore with history and charming people. Swimming in the bioluminescence bay is and experience. The snorkeling and scuba diving in Fajardo is wonderful. This is just the tip of the list of great things to do and see in Puerto Rico. Lastly make time to eat the local dishes. They offer an array of flavor and enjoyment. |

Remember your in the tropics so there may be a brief afternoon thunderstorm. If you are planning on scuba diving I would stay in Fajardo. It is also an easy jump to El Yunque. I would split my time between San Juan and Fajardo if I were going with the intention of being underwater for a day or two. |

Rincon is a surfing capital. Mayaguez is a quaint town. Aguadilla has beautiful beaches. There are caves near Arecibo and the historic lighthouse and park is nice. There are great local Rums if you drink alcohol. The local food is delicious. There are great beaches everywhere. |

Much of the island is easy to navigate. Driving in San Juan is a whole different experience. The drivers there are wild. The roads can be confusing. It is congested much of the time. |

Looking forward to wearing my micro G-strings and other extreme suits. Its been 4 years since I have been there. Any recent updates. Last time I was there you could wear just about nothing and be fine.
Renting a car so will also head to more beaches, Luquillo ( Desmit suit, less revealing) - where I used to have a condo ( Playa Azul) - the cove there you could Thong with no problem. Do some caving, visit the Bacardi plant, free rum.
Wanting to hear from any of y'all that have recently been to the Condado area beaches.

Often several times because the beaches were short. Locals found it a bit of suprize at first but then were enthusiastic, with several cheering as I ran past.
If found both the tourists and local women were curious, but it was normally the tourist women who were bold enough to come over and start conversations. American tourists would start general conversations whereas the local women would be far more direct, for example starting out by complementing my legs. |

Vieques is paradise!! The beaches have incredibly clear water, and at least during the time we visited - March - it was almost deserted. My wife and I spent most of our time at La Chiva, Sun Bay, and Caracas, and in all of them, she wore micro thongs and g-strings without any issues.
At Playa La Plata, we were there one morning and there was no one around, making it practically a private beach for the two of us. There I wore a very tight speedo trunk and my wife wore a g string that was completely translucent in front with transparent panels that allowed you to see everything through it. From behind it was just a transparent thread completely exposing her buns.
An hour after we arrived we spotted another couple, but they were like 1000 feet away, so we didn't bother changing our outfits since we could barely see each other from that distance. When heading back to the busier beaches, my wife switched to her trusty thong, and I stuck with my Speedo.
We didn't see any men in thongs, only speedos trunks and many women in thongs.
Just two nights, but we're definitely coming back to Vieques! |
