Date Posted:05/30/2014 10:58:50Copy HTML I am going to Rhode Island on business in July and I will have a day to myself. Wondering if I should go to Charlestown or take the time to go to Block Island. I'm just going to have a day so want to make it work it. Any suggestions?

Re:Rhode Island Date Posted:08/25/2026 10:06:52Copy HTML Here's a piece about the former nude beach at Moonstone. I was lucky enough to enjoy that beach and the later replacement beach too.

Re:Rhode Island Date Posted:08/25/2026 11:04:33Copy HTML When we were first married we made the trek to Herring Cove Beach from the Providence area (about 110 Miles one way) just about every summer weekend. Not a nude beach so we both wore the briefest bikinis. And being so close to Provincetown there was no shortage of miniscule men’s bikinis for sale. Nude was possible. When the ranger jeep was on the way we could count on one of the guys from the gay section running up the beach shouting warning. Just like Paul Revere only that time it was the Ranger instead of the British.
At any rate, we heard about Moonstone Beach (possibly from the article cited here). Nude? Thirty miles from home? What’s there not to like? We made a lot of trips to Moonstone over the years (with the mandatory stop at Allie’s Donuts – still there). We even ran into one of my wife’s grad school profs. When it came time to build, proximity to Moonstone was a major consideration (we're also still there). Moonstone Beach is long gone but we’re still around. Now we’re nude around home, at a nearby nudist campground and the Caribbean. But it all started at Moonstone. Very good memories, indeed. Thanks for posting, Sailor. |
