Date Posted:06/21/2026 06:50:33Copy HTML Lots of talk this Spring and Summer about the amounts of Sargassum in the Carribean, and in Florida. I'll tell you what I've seen in the last few months in S Fla. The amounts you'll find can vary greatly week to week based on the wind speed, direction and duration. I'll also comment on the methods of dealing with it- which vary. In some places they've had to change strategy or give up! At some beaches the clean up is never-ending and the beach feels like a tractor traffic jam- lots of noise and fumes. I'm surprised more than a few people haven't been run over by them! South/ Mid Miami Beach: in early June with strong Easterly winds large amounts. They've been using tractors with rakes to remove, haul away several times a day. Usually small to moderate amounts at any time remain. North Miami Beach: Moderate to large amounts earlier are only minor now. They will use a tractor to plow it under several times a day. Haulover Beach: Moderate to Large amounts earlier are only minor now Tractor plows under daily Sunny Isles Beach Moderate amounts are gone, Plowed and raked daily Ft Lauderdale: Moderate amounts are minor now. Using tractors to plow under, some removal. Deerfield Beach: was Moderate amount, now little/ no remaining Using removal and plowing under Delray Beach : Moderate amounts then large amounts remained. Were letting it sit in the sun then plowing under- newly refurbished sand still soft. Has been "bad" for a few weeks, partially gone. |

Re:Sargassum Sadness Date Posted:06/22/2026 12:17:14Copy HTML Looking at the Miami Beach web cams today from Sunny Isles southward to 1st street it seems like the issue has decreased a fair amount and that more people were out enjoying the beach. I'll be there 3rd week in July so hopefully it'll continue to improve. |

Re:Sargassum Sadness Date Posted:07/01/2026 05:32:51Copy HTML In the last week 3 locations I've visited have moderate amounts on the shore and floating toward the shore- even with moderate easterly winds. I've seen it now in some parts of the intracoastal waterway and canals- must be sucked into the inlets with the tides. |

Re:Sargassum Sadness Date Posted:07/06/2026 02:17:36Copy HTML Most recently seems to be better in S Fla- the amount must vary according to the duration in days and speed of winds from the East. |

Re:Sargassum Sadness Date Posted:09/15/2026 05:28:52Copy HTML Yes Yes the weed is no longer around!
I've been floating around naked soaking up sun near the surface at some S Fla beaches instead of the weed patches.
Hopefully it won't come back any time soon. |
