Recently came back from a trip to peurto Vallarta. Now given the nature of the resort, and my current body (gained some weight) I wasn't feeling up for wearing any smaller swimwear. I had packed a rio cut, but never even put it on. Saw a few guys in speedos, but they were older (50's, where as I'm 20's) and they didn't have the body for it either. A bunch of girls were wearing rio type suits, and many of them had the body for it.
While I was there I realized that on top of needing to loose some weigh, I also need to gain some confidence. Seeing these woman parade around confidenty, I knew that wouldn't be me. Now I know it's different for a man, but how do you guys do it? I would like to hear from guys who have struggled with gaining the confidence to wear smaller swimwear.

I probably had a shorter distance than some in going from a Speedo/bikini style to a Rio, to a thong on the beach.

I always wore a Speedo/bikini as a youth. Even then I was usually one of a handful of guys weren't this type of swimwear. I have lied most of my life in and around the Great Lakes I the USA. It has always been rare to see anyone male or female in small swimwear.

The first time I wore a Rio cut on the beach I was very nervous. I had a few good responses from women, and that helped my confidence. As I continued to wear the Rio style my comfort grew. I had had my share of negative comments and a few threats from other narrow minded men/boys.

Then I went to SOBE and saw many people both men and women in very small swimwear. That helped my confidence. I first wore a thong on the beach in Miami.

The first time in a thong on a beach in the Great Lakes was nerve racking. The next few times I had women set up next to me. A few times later I had women pulling their bottoms in to thongs, then they wore a thong. This really boosted my confidence.

Yet still today I get looks, comments and a few negative reactions from the conservative/red neck/ignorant men in their calf length board shorts. There are times I will not wear a thong and go for the Rio if the vibe is questionable.

I love being in Florida or the Caribbean where I am totally confident in a thong. The best way to build confidence is to just keep doing what you do.

Repeated Practice.

Maybe being teased as a kid helped.  Mother saying "Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me."
Over time one can take on that mental cloak of self defense against the dark force created by snarky juvenile comments.

Getting fit helps.  You may not have, or end up, with a models body - but getting fit will help your overall body self image.

Getting older helps.  You begin to worry less about what your seniors think of you, for you are one yourself.
You start to realize there is little wisdom or moral authority based on age alone, unlike when you were a kid.

One day you begin to realize that even presidents of the United States are not loved by everyone:
Many hate, and are very vocal about it, but that does not stop the presidents from smiling and going forward.
They would love 'everyone' to love them, they will settle for 51% just to get into office,
and later probably don't care that much at all unless running for reelection.

Courage and resolution is something you can teach yourself.

You can also gain courage and resolution in large doses by taking on tough challenges:
Artificial ones like managed outdoor adventure trips designed to challenge you in a structured events,
or real life challenges. they both work.

Or you can challenge yourself each week to do something out of your comfort zone, and do it more than once.
Go to a "contra dance";  go to a gym and ask for lessons; join a local running club; or try taking a gay friend out for an evening without feeling terrified.

You are looking to develop the courage not to worry about what other people 'might' think, but rejoice in the fact that you are doing what you want, and rejoice in overcoming your own internal fears.

Work on being able to laugh at yourself, an learn how to feel comfortable doing something you are not good at or that makes you initially feel uncomfortable.

Self confidence is not genetic, but it can be learned from parents or others, and can be the results of ones life experiences.

When setting out to learn or increase your self confidence look to life experiences where you can learn from others, especially if the experience is specifically designed to help you gain self confidence. This sort of learning is generally less frustrating than re-inventing the motorcar on your own.

Even if you don't end up using your new self confidence to wear a thong on a public beach it is still a good investment in yourself.

Question is can you feel comfortable in your own skin wearing swimwear you want. If not then how can others accept your atire in public?
I have struggled over the years gaining confidence read manyof my posts over the years on the forum.
Tips:Try to realize other people don't look perfect. Some look better then others but we all have flaws. Yes, can you believe even me.
My new way  of a coping mechanism taking in critical comments from females who are bitter towards me.
Just like today at work, bitter female commented from initial remarks from other females ogling my body or bulge. Then she retorted "ya! I don't  believe he really that big, he's tiny like a shrimp"! All the woman roared with laughter believing her words as she is so sure or experienced it personally. Then she looked me in the eye to see my reaction only i  smirked to her cruel comments.
I deal with it internally. Hearing their hurtfull words comments and silly opinions. I imagine these female haters which all give felecio to a male one time or another. So i stare thinking how they may suck a certain way their face looks. Makes me chuckle at them and deal with the painful words they dish out.
You may find your way it's a process which in life we go through.
It's  not the times you get hit and get up. But how hard they hit you and go forward in life to succeed.

I developed severe social anxiety as an early teenager. It was quite debilitating.
As I grew older I developed fantasies about being more extrovert. I began to hide behind a facade. That was the beginning of my apparent self confidence.
The very first time I ever walked in public in a thong was at a local swimming pool that had slides and stuff. Not quite a water park but getting there. I was young, buff and apparently had a nice butt. I was in my late teens.
My method has always been to not give myself a choice. Arrive at the venue wearing jeans or bulky cargo shorts that I just can't leave on and wear your thong of choice underneath. I was so fired up about leaving the changing rooms in a thong that I felt on top of the world. After the first admiring look my confidence exploded. I didn't want to go home.
Since then I've just used the same approach to push the boundaries.Whether it's going running in public wearing only a thong or slowly reducing the size of my suits.
I used the same approach in Turkey this year when I wore some suits I never thought I would. Going out on a diving boat, I arrived at the harbour wearing bulky shorts or jeans and already had my suit on underneath. The jeans had to come off but I wasn't worried about showing my butt. I long since got over that. I was stripping down to one of Tangalands skimpier suits. No rear coverage and only partial coverage in front. No option to back out. So I just got on with it and spent the whole day wearing only the suit while I walked round on the boat. It helped strike up some conversations too!
I feel I now have the confidence to thong anywhere. I need some new challenges!

Yeah, I agree JM: fake it till you make it.

I read a study years ago that indicated that 1 in 3 women actually liked seeing a man in skimpy swimwear. So while the majority women think  a thong is not something a man should wear. A whole bunch of women think it is appropriate item for a man to wear.
Know that you will be laughed at or ridiculed. This is America you will be laughed at or ridiculed for almost any choice you make for example: Chocolate or strawberry ice cream? How about even choosing to eat ice cream?  Pick your food or pick your behavior you will get grief over it. As long as you are legal don't worry.

Confidence can go a long way.  When I was at the beach a couple of days ago wearing my thong a woman went up on the lifeguard tower right by me.  I walked by to throw something in the trash and we stopped and talked for a few minutes.  She mentioned that she liked my thong swimwear and said she was taking pics of me in it.  I told her that was fine and to keep snapping away if she wanted.  We talked for awhile longer and she asked me to take her picture.  I then asked her if she would take mine and she said yes.  She took some pics with my phone and then asked if she could take some with her phone.  That was a good experience that started out with me showing some confidence.

The above advice is excellent.  I have always believed if you act like you belong somewhere, no one says a thing to you about it. Think about it, back in the day, a 19 year old could cruise into a liquor store, act like they are a regular, go straight to their favorite beverage, grab it, pay for it and head out.  The nervous 19 year old who wanders around like a tourist in a museum will always get carded!

I'd say on the beaches I frequent, you just go and do your thing.  My best experience was an afternoon out with the wife during the week in August.  We found a spot sort of away from everyone, at least 40 yards from others. I stripped down to my usual thong.  A family of 5 came up the beach, and set up camp not more than 10 yards from us. My wife of all people carried on as usual, going to the water, throwing a baseball on the beach...  It was a great day!

I guess I wish the advice were more complex, but put on your thong, put on some jeans, and head to the beach like you own it!!!  And if you doubt yourself, the jeans have to come off anyway...you can't wear those on an 85 degree day!

I’ve found a good way to have the confidence to do anything in life beyond the norm is to determine what is the worst that could happen then have a plan of how to deal with that. Doesn't have to be elaborate, just knowing there is an 'escape route' really helps.

For example, although I’d been wearing g-strings on beaches for decades, when I decided a few years back to try sunning in same at suburban Olympic pools it was a whole new ball game. While Speedos are fairly common with the older lap swimmers, I had never seen or heard of anyone (guys or gals) wearing any type of thong. It just wasn’t done. I reckoned my chances were next to zero.

Why bother even trying? Well, being able to work on my near all over tan in a beautiful grassy environment at the same place I exercised was certainly enticing. The worst case scenario was that the lifeguards or pool manager would tell me to cover up or leave. Could I handle that? Yea, my plan was I would just do what they asked! Simple, but the couple of times I've needed it, it's worked.

Epic I completely agree with you.  If you are going to do something do it with confidence as if you own it.  After all, we have every right to the be on the beach wearing a thong so don't sweat it and be confident.  I know that is not always easy especially for newbies but getting that confidence is a great place to get to and a place that would put others at ease as well as yourself.

From you’re profile, I note you are male. Hence you fall into the category that a large majority of people won’t appreciate wearing a thong. I doubt posting pictures on the internet and receiving comments from the people who like commenting on things, many of whom probably never go near a beach, is hardly likely to boost your confidence.

I’d suggest just going to one of the thong friendlier beaches recommended here, forget you’re wearing a thong, ignore any dumb comments (if any) and enjoy the day out. Confidence will come naturally.

In the last few weeks I've finally plucked up the courage to wear thongs in the changing room after (field) hockey.  I'd avoided this in the past as I was worried that my teammates wouldn't accept it and I'd be slated for it.  I managed to convince myself that it doesn't matter how they react and that even negativity would dampen after a while.
The first time no-one really said anything/never noticed but yesterday (3rd time) got more of reaction.  Rather than anything negative, one of them shouted 'nice thong!' and got me to turn round and show the rest.  They made 1-2 comments each but generally neutral/positive.  Needless to say that's now opened the floodgates and I can now put on thongs after games/training in front of them with no worries.  I wish I had done it much sooner as, like most cases mentioned on this forum, people's reactions aren't as negative as we often perceive.

Re:Self confidence

Date Posted:06/16/2015 06:58:00Copy HTML

I don't have much to add... Confidence begins at the intersection of having a sober understanding of your qualities but not taking what may be viewed as deficiencies too seriously. For example, a pilot who is licensed to fly a plane is still nervous the first few times (s)he takes off. If (s)he saw the shortcomings too sharply, lack of experience, cross winds, fuel cost; or the criticisms, even if in jest, from others who saw the take off and landing, (s)he would never go flying in the first place. Sometimes we take what others are presumably thinking too seriously. So what?! Even if they're shaking their heads in disgust they will soon forget (don't we?!)

If you're licensed, go fly; if you wanna thong, go thong! So what if you're a little over/under weight? Of course it helps to be in better shape. For many of us this is a motivation to get in and stay in shape. Other factors that can't be helped: age. I'm in my mid 40's. In all honesty there is a little discomfort in knowing I'm not 30 anymore but you know what? no one knows how old you are 10 or 20 yards away! It's all in our heads! What about balding? Balding affects many men's self confidence. It does to me. To a point. But keeping my hair short helps, wearing a hat, and again, at 20 yards no one can tell, it's all in our heads! So I'm not very tall, short men tend to lack a certain self confidence, I know that too well. But God wanted me this size, as does my wife and all my former girlfriends never complained.... so if it doesn't bother them, why should I let it bother me?

A younger, taller friend of mine with a full head of hair said to me not very long ago, "I wish I had your confidence. I wish I had your build. I wish I had your optimism...." which only goes to show you: the grass is always greener on the other side. We have heard it here so many times before, people reporting that they had been told by other people that they wish they had (our) courage/confidence, to wear what we wear in public. Contrary to what we think they're thinking many are thinking how brave/bold/confident/cool it is for us to thong in a public place!
Of course the opposite is also true: having no shame. But most people won't think this of us solely by what we are wearing. Some will, of course; but more will think this by how we are behaving. The dude in the thong, if acting normal most people will think of him as normal, even if he doesn't look like a Calvin Klein model. But people for sure will think of him as disturbed if he's acting oddly AND wearing a thong.
The moral of the story, just be cool, mind your own business, and chances are that most people won't give you a second thought, helping your self confidence. Just don't let a heckler ruin your day, they'd bust Arnold Schwarzenegger's balls given half a chance!

Re:Self confidence

You make a good point about confidence. Your metaphor about flying is spot on! As an experienced pilot (private pilot not ATP), I can tell you that the nerves don't go away completely. An instructor that I had when getting my instrument rating told me "the moment that you completely lose your fear is the time to stop flying". That nervousness is what keeps you centered and, for a thong wearer as well as a pilot, out of trouble. There is a constant need to read the vibe of a new beach and to be alert to the fact that, at some beaches, thongs are illegal. There is an entire continuum of beach vibes and what you can wear without being harassed by the constabulary.  I am lucky enough to live close to a beach where almost anything goes, but I would never start out at a new beach wearing what I regularly wear here. Confidence is not the lack of nerves but the knowledge of when to override that nervous feeling.

There's an old adage that says "The harder I work, the luckier I get"  The same sentiment applies to confidence.  The more you fire up your courage, the more confident you get.  It's very surprising how that fear melts away after the very first time you make up your mind to overcome it.  Just put on your favorite thong or G-string and go for it.

Re:Self confidence

armand_galleon makes some very good points there, and it reminds me of how I felt at a younger age when I had

a) a full head of long blonde hair

b) a nice fit young body

c) nice young looks etc etc etc

The key ingredient however was not there - confidence.

Even though I wore thongs, I would have never done it like I do now. And where were all the negatives? That's right, in my head!

Now I am 27 years older and have

a) no hair

b) the body is not what it once was

c) the wrinkles etc thrive, and tone is not what it once was!

and I've never been more confident to wear my thongs!

Disregard the voices telling you the world will end! People really do not react as negatively as you might think, and you rarely hear from the ones who like what you're doing. When others see you're confident and just doing what you want, be it a bit out of the norm, they have their look and let you get on with your day!

Life is much too short to regret what you did not do!

Re:Self confidence

The general answer seems to be "Be confident" and at least the models generally don't mind men in Speedos (or less?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hL9kxVHrfxw

(Sorry about the sound.  I didn't make this!)

If most of these beautiful women don't see any issues with men in Speedos, then why are men hesitant to adapt the look?  It gets down to the confidence issue again.  (And the point is made that women need confidence as well.)  So if you are a guy and want to thong, (or wear a Speedo) and you have confidence in what you are doing, it will show.  And time and time again, people are more likely to accept a confident person than one who can not accept what they are doing themselves.  Remember, people will generally accept you better than if you lack confidence.

Also remember that confidence is not only a state of mind, but also associated with your "look" and actions.  I don't mean to say only beautiful people can be confident, but instead that people can visually pick up non confident feelings another might have.  Someone who acts nervous or appears to not be confident will be labeled as non confident ih their spectator's minds.  So taking too long to show others you have on a thong, or purposefully going to the sand dunes (even if you only want some piece and quiet), or covering up a thong when new people arrive and you will botch up your chances of being considered confident.  I believe that confidence is probably more important to most people now than what is actually being worn.  We here people being complimented for being able to "carry off" a look.  This might be a trailer-trash tube top and cut-offs or an expensive gown, but when people have the confidence it can be the confidence that is being perceived, not what is actually being worn.  Again and again I have seen confident men "get away" with thonging, even in places with specific "no thong" rules.   Likewise a confident woman might wear a thong or even go topfree and "get away" with it.

One more point.  A lack of confidence can rub off on other thongers when spectators make assumptions that thongers are for some reason not confident and therefor all thongers must not be confident.  Likewise, a spectator who meets confident thongers might well think highly of thongers because of this previous impression.

Re:Self confidence

I guess I was lucky growing up, because at a very young age my parent instilled self confidence in me along with being body positive. Growing up when I did compared to today is much different, I remember being a kid and running around the yard naked in the summer. We lived in the country without any close neighbors and I was the youngest child "change of life baby" so all of my siblings were grown and out of the house by the time I was 8 yrs old. So it was never an issue if I wanted to play in the sprinkler naked. Then when I got a little older I started laying out on our back porch nude to sunbathe, I remember one day when I was around 15 I was laying out and my mothers friend stopped by to visit. I was sunbathing out back and didn't hear her drive up because I had on head phones. She knocked at the door and nobody answered so she walked around back thinking my mom might be in the garden and as she went toward the garden she saw me sunbathing on my lounger, and got so embarrassed and covered her eyes. I just laughed and said "you have seen me naked a hundred times before, so what's the big deal" then she said before you were just a child, but I can see you have grown up. After that my mom asked me to keep a cover-up with me in-case we had visitors. So this is when I started getting bikini underwear. Back then i would wear them alone if we had company and nobody really cared. As time progressed string sided bikini's became available, and then when I was around 18 I found a thong at a beach shop while on vacation. So after buying my first thong i was hooked and kept looking for smaller and more revealing thongs, and eventually G-strings. All along nothing negative was ever said about what I was wearing or even sunbathing and walking around the house nude. My mom did notice when I first shaved my pubes and asked why i did it? So I told her that my pubes showed through the sheer white G-string I wore on the beach. Then she asked "aren't you worried that everyone now will see you don't have any hair down there? like everyone else?" I laughed and said NO why do I care, plus Lisa "my then girlfriend" liked it shaved and she shaved hers off as well. Lisa had grown up similar to the way I did and also had a lot of self confidence. She bought her sheer white Ujena G-string for the beach vacation where I found mine. I remember us going to her friends house during the summer after buying our G-strings and her walking from the car into the house wearing only her G-string, then her friends mom commented that "it doesn't cover up very much, and after she got it wet she would look naked" lisa just laughed and said "this will do, it cover enough" then we went out to the pool. We had been swimming for a few hours when her friends mom brought us out drinks and her mom didn't realize I too was wearing a sheer white G-string and she commented "I didn't realize we were running a nudist resort!" Then her friend laughed and said "Mom, don't tell them that because they will go nude!" and her mom laughed and said "didn't you ever skinny dip in our pool?" "that's why we had the tall fence put in, your dad and I used to skinny dip and nude sunbathe all the time until you grew up" So Lisa asked her friends mom "Do you care if we skinny dip?" and she said "No you are 18, plus I never liked wearing a wet bikini to lay out in either" So from then on we would just go naked when we swam and sunbathed at her friends. Maureen "lisa's friend" was a little more self conscious around her mom but she would go nude when her mom wasn't home. Maureens mom did ask Lisa, why she continued to shave her pubes after we had been swimming there for the past summer nude and didn't need to worry about the hair showing through her bikini, and Lisa told her it was a habit. Then she said aren't you worried that people are going to stare at you and see everything that should be covered? Lisa laughed and said "that's the point, if they want to look I don't care.

Me too, why not! It is all to do with being free to be one's self; nothing to do with age.

I keep pretty fit, never flaunt myself and never have a problem.

Maximum coverage suit now worn is a J Snyder Capri bikini - or will be when current Snyder clip bikini wears out.

Perhaps we should start a thread to confirm maximum cover suit worn by board subscribers:

Maybe subdivided: 1) lap swimming 2) hotel pools 3) beach. My answers are: Capri, Snyder Kini, Gemali g string.

We ALL agree that confidence is the key.

But, the primary question is "How to gain the confidence".

It took me several years to gain the confidence to wear a thong at my public swimming pool, so i will try to give my personnal experience to gain the confidence.

1 : progressivity

You have to gain your own confidence gradually.

Do you think you can run a marathon the first time you run or you will run gradually ? We are agree and it is the same thing for thonging...

Of course, some people will gain confidence faster than other, but go for it gradually.

The progressivity has 2 sides :

- the thong

- the place and the time

The thong : if you lack confidence, don't push the limits when you buy a thong. Start wih a conservative thong, that is too say :

- no missile or torpedo thong,

- no see through:

- solid colours and no bright colours (black is beautiful)

- lined

- drawstring

For example, the Desmiit  black thong is a very good choice.

If you don't have the confidence to start with a conservative thong, start with a speedo, and wear smaller and smaller swimwuits.

I did like this. I started with speddo who were smaller and smaller and i finished with a very very cheeky swimwear just before wearing a thong at my swimming pool.

The place :

start by thonging at beaches where people are more open minded. It is the same thing in all country. There are some very conservative place and some more open minded. Don't increase the challenge by choosing a very conservative place if you lack confidence when you start.

Don't forget that, for a same place, the time is important too.

When you will have enough confidence, you will be able to go in more conservative places or more crowded beach.

Start to thong at the beach before the swimming pool : it is easier to thong at the beach than the swimming pool.

2 : relativize the risk

Ask yoursel what risk do you run ?

When i start to wear a thong in my local swimming pool, i asked myself what is the risk i run ?

The worst is the lifeguards ask me to wear an other swimsuit. It is not a big risk. I won't go in jail, or i won't lost my job, etc.

Convince yourself that weating a thong is not illegal (but check before it is not illegal when you go in an other country).

So, when you relativize the worst that could happen, you are able to handle that.

3 : convince yourself that thong is normal

If you think that a thong is not a normal swimsuit, it will be difficult to have confidence.

You have to convince yourself that thong is a swimwear like the others. Look : there is a lot of women who wear thongs... and now some men.

I was wearing smaller and smaller swimsuit at my local swimming pool. It was cheeky swimsuit. In september, i wore a smaller cheeky swimsuit. I convinced myself it was not a thong, it was just a normal swimsuit, just a little cheeky, a little more cheeky than my previous swimwear.

By conviencing myself, i had the confidence to do my swim laps. But, by taking a selfie, i realized that it was not a cheeky swimsuit, it was a thong.

If you convince yourself that thong is normal, you have to assume it in front of your friends.

I swim regularly (3 times a week). So i know people (others swimmers, lifeguards) and some time some co-workers. And what else ?

Thong is normal. So i don't hide myself. Now, all the others swimmers, all the lifeguards have seen my thong. And what else ?

They said nothing. When an other swimmer speak with me, it is about training, swim speed, etc.

No one say a word about my thong.

4 : thong regularly

There i no secret. Regularity is one of the key.

The more you thong, the more it is easy.

It is like training. If you thong only 2 or 3 times a year, it will be very difficult. If you thong all the year, it will become easier and easier

5 : plunge

When the water is cold, you have to enter quickly in the water. It is the same thong for thonging.

When you go at the beach, install your towel and put off you short immediatly. Don't wait half an hour. The more you wait, the more difficult it will be.

GO FOR IT

Lots of great tips! I agree that going with a conservative thong is key to getting started. In public I usually do a solid black or blue thong, maybe with a few subtle stripes, but no bright colors or torpedo-style thongs. Definitely no strings for me, unless I'm in the backyard. And yes, you need to just strip off the clothes right away like a boss, like you own the place, otherwise you'll dawdle and it will be more and more awkward to shed the clothes. Once you have it all off you are there for the gawking and to soak up the sun. I find it's always hard to get dressed when it's time to leave and if I've been there long enough, my confidence is so high that I've pranced to the car in my thong and even driven home without covering up. It's the best!

Like I have posted elsewhere, I went from a normal Speedo to a Solar, then to a Sporti Euro, I finally decided to just, as Stringueur put it, ”GO FOR IT”, and wear a thong suit.

The first time I did many of the things suggested one should not do: I timed my exit form the locker room, hid myself by picking up a kick board, and potentially looked a bit nervous. However once I realized no body cared, I knew I had to try it again.

On the second time I did time my exit, and still got the kick board (although I didn’t make as much an effort to hide my choice). Again, nobody seemed to care.

So third time, as they say, “Was a charm”.  I just put on my suit (Speedo Solar Thong) walked to the far end of the pool to grab some fins, chose a lane and proceeded to swim. No trouble no hassle just a great swim.

Now the Solar is my primary suit for all the “adult swims”.  All the night staff has seen it, and even talked to me when I was wearing it. Like others have said, just wear it like any other suit and be comfortable and confident. IT WORKS!!

I just read this again, and it reminded me of a story of a day I spent on Bondi Beach just last year. I had spent a couple of hours in the afternoon sunning in my thong at the south end of Bondi near the Icebergs, along with hundreds of others in varying attire. I walked back to my car as usual in my thong, just carrying my towel. While at my car, I spotted a model being photographed near the water, who at first glance appeared naked. After a (much) closer look, I could see she had on a close to skin coloured thong and top. She then changed into a multi-coloured set of much the same style, and continued to be photographed. A short time later, she was in the skin coloured ensemble again. A crowd had sort of gathered to watch, so at this point I thought "If she can, so can I". I walked down to where she was in just my thong carrying only my phone. I went right up and asked if I could have a photo with her. She instantly agreed, and after a few snaps commented on how she loved my thong. Her comments were all about how good they were, and that I had an amazing tan, not so much about men wearing them. It was very positive, but not in the way I may have expected or previously experienced. I made the comment that maybe I shouldn't wear them, and she insistently disagreed. All from a gorgeous model :) Walking back to my car, another random female grabbed me and asked for photos. She had her boyfriend take a few of me and her, front and rear. She had a white croqueched bikini that was probably a skimpy Rio back with string sides. I think she liked my confidence. Just a couple of examples that reinforce the confidence point.

One of the many reasons I began wearing thongs and g-strings in public was to build self-confidence. Before I began I was painfully shy and bashful almost to the point of panic attacks if I had to face someone or something new. It has been over 33 years now since I first wore a thong in public. It was a Gazelle thong. Today I am very comfortable in a g-string in public and have learned to be very friendly and outgoing when I meet new people whether I am clothed or in a thong. Over the summer at the lake, I have met many new friends. I have been given many beers and have been invited to join them and also attend parties. Sunday a new friend pulled up on his jet ski with his wife to say hello. I had met him several weeks before. His wife was not with him at the first meeting. He wanted to introduce her to me. Apparently he had taken my picture and showed it to her. At first, I thought she was a little hesitant to talk. Later was kayaking and saw them again. She waved me over to talk and offered me a beer. She then insisted I come to a birthday party they are having this Saturday at the cove I usually go to. The husband agreed and also insisted I attend. Maybe they want their friends to see me in a thong, but I also think they like being around me since we hung out and talked for over an hour during the day. It took a while to gain confidence and I admit I still find times I strugle a little. When I see someone new when I am in minimum attire I tend to prejudge them. Almost always I am wrong. The person who I thought would not approve of how I am dressed, is usually the one who gives me a compliment. I am now comfortable in my own skin and showing almost all of it. I like the person I have become. As a side note, I find that people think being confident is sexy and cool.

My body is not perfect. I am chubby and I have stretch marks on my belly. But, I am not afraid to sport a thong on the beach. I'm starting to care less about what others think. I don't want to follow the crowd. I am unique in my own way. That doesn't mean that I'm going to stay chubby. I want to look good in a thong. I've lost 20lbs this year. I have to lose another 20lbs to get to my ideal weight.

kiyoothong, sounds like you are making large strides to achieve your goals. Good work. Remember you can't judge fitness by weight. The same volume of muscle weighs about three times more than the same volume of fat. Also as you work out more your bone density goes up. Judge your fitness based on your strength and endurance. Numbers on a scale are easy to remember. However you don't want to sacrifice bone density and mussel mass for low scale numbers. Fitness and endurance is the goal, and much harder to quantify. Many women drop out of marathon training after a couple of months, not because it is too hard, but because they don't see the results on the scale. More often than not, as they get fitter and build heaver muscles they gain weight in the first few months. It is not until a few months after that they notice the change in body structure, more muscle and less flab. A good scientific gauge is percentage of body fat, but difficult to measure, and more favorable to anorexics rather than true good health. So one of the better ways to gauge your improvement is to keep a training log. Keep a record. Now and again do the same workout and record if you were faster, stronger, or went longer. Don't expect massive changes. Don't get discouraged by plateaus, as the body adapts to the new normal. Keep at it and when you look back at your old training logs many months from now you will see how far you have come. Good luck, - and for a little levity along the way, on facebook join a group called: Pathetic Triathletes Group. Lots of encouragement and war stories, along with a liberal dose of sarcasm.

kiyoothong, I lost almost 10kg by swimming regularly and going through low carbs diet. Looking at the current situation where I won’t risk swimming I’m doing exercises daily at home to maintain my current weight. It doesn’t seem I’m able to loose more but at same time I see changes on my body especially on my abs. Though it’s still difficult to flatten my lower belly :-/ Living in a conservative country it’s almost impossible to wear thongs at public place like beach or swimming pool. So I wear thongs as underwear only but I’m confident enough wearing them for every occasions even at work.

Yeah I swim and do weights. I realize that I need to build my glutes because my butt is sagging as I lose weight. Nobody wants a saggy butt.

I was recently officially diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic and placed on a low carb diet ( @100g per day) and prescribed metFormin. Between the 2 and beach season ( my spot is 2 miles away) I’ve lost @ 30 pounds. I now weigh what I did 35 years ago and clothes that have lingered in my closet and drawers now fit. (I’m not Marie Kondo). This is especially true for a swimsuit I bought 35 years ago for my honeymoon that has an 1 1/2 “ inseam. The flip side is also true, my bikinis are very loose and baggy. My question is buy now or hold off until I hit my target weight and physique? The other question, thong or G? I’m basically a nudist who wants to stay legal.

Thong or G-string will depend on where you thong, and what you consider a thong. I call them all thongs, but most of what I wear others would call g-strings. Getting new thongs/g-strings now or later: If you think you will change size then order low cost thongs from somewhere like Ali-Express for costs between 4 and 9 dollars including shipping, rather than from Skinzwear for 35 and that does not include shipping. If you later lose weight then down sizing g-strings is not normally very difficult if you have even the most basic of sewing skills. If you don't, some friends or women thongers you meet on the beach might. Which gets to the issue of delaying thonging, until you get to your perfect size. Bad idea, for several reasons: It is all to easy to procrastinate about thonging, but you are not getting any younger, AND if you thong now and overcome for worry's, you will feel even more liberated when you are later thonging and looking even better. Becoming comfortable with your body, and thonging in public is not easy. It is a learning experience that takes time and repeated total immersion. The more you do it the more you will fell comfortable in public. Confidence is like exercise, the sooner you start and the more often you do it the better you will be.

Self confidence isn’t an issue, I’m a nudist.
I was a bragging a bit, and looking for a recommendation for a decent inexpensive thong recommendation ( not Ali express, my kid works for a competitor that also starts with an a).

Yesterday seen gal at the clothing optional beach wearing one piece extreme string thong. Walking along the beach seen the same gal in the bushes putting on her string one piece thong. She looked to be hiding from prying eyes yet her color swimsuit neon orange gave her away. Later walking in shallow water the same gal decided to leave the bushes  with a male friend and into the water. There was little to no people in the water. She quickly went in about waist deep and began to walk back out. I caught up to her when she was passing through. I looked her over she had most extreme string one piece i ever seen gal on the beach wear. Little to nothing was covered. I told her i liked her thong. She didn't stop, saying thank you, her back to me.  Could tell she was nervous wearing such sexy string thong. It looked wonderful on her black skin and she had the body shape to wear it really well. She never strolled along the beach just hiding in the bushes.

Often is the case some individuals get nervous wearing micro swimwear in public not knowing how people will react to your body or the string. Felt the gal i seen was nervous since the suit she was wearing was next to nothing very appropriate on clothing optional beach but would probably be in trouble on textile one. Since the suit covered  minimally people would find it offensive on conservative beach.
Do feel she was testing the waters to gain confidence to wear the swimwear on another textile beach. One needs to be comfortable wearing thongs if your always adjusting  or afraid  going to textile beach in something unique lacking confidence only is increased with more prying eyes.

My initial experience in thong wearing was fear. Anyone complimenting me or commenting i would run off not able to chat or talk. Once you find the right location and believe you can wear anything you desire confidence follows.
My recent  visit to the beach i walked along the textile beach in fire engine red bulge muscleskins string thong. Often expect beach visitors to take notice. While walking along the shoreline i seen nude male setting up his towel near a family on textile side beach. The female told him he was on wrong side pointing him further away shaking her head in disbelief.. She turned around noticing me chuckling at the nude male confusion, while her husband and child were playing away in the sand. The black lean attractive woman could not believe what she was looking upon me, so to her husband's  dead confused stare.
Later i walked on very crowded clothing optional beach changing in my Jovanna extreme sling c-ring g-string leaving everything to be seen. Young cute gal with her boyfriend lurking along the water most likely anchoring their yacht to come ashore. She stood freezing mouth open staring with disbelief what she was looking upon my sling string and c-rings, glan rings all to see. From her reaction she never seen anything like it. As i passed in between them both. Takes lot of confidence to walk along the beach like i do not caring what reaction i get, be it good or bad doesn't matter to me.

mack_back, Great story. I've never seen an extreme string thong anywhere but on the internet. Of course, I don't live in Florida (I assume that's where that C/O beach is.) It's much less likely here. Too late to be of use, but if you happen to see her again and she still seems shy or nervous, maybe tell her you think she's braver than any woman you know because no one else has worn such a daring suit on the beach. (Or whatever words you wish to use.) I wonder if I'll ever see a woman sunbathing in a sliver suit. That would be amazing to see. I don't think a woman could do anything but sunbathe and then turn over ver-r-r-y carefully to tan the other side. Those sliver suits wouldn't stay on if you went into the water! It seems funny that I get more notice now than back in the day when many more guys were wearing thongs. I'm about the only guy who wears a thong at the Lake Erie beach. I would guess that the younger women (24-32 or so) are just so used to seeing every guy (their age) wear board shorts that they are stunned that an older guy can wear something so skimpy and actually look pretty decent. I've caught several looking at me this summer each time at the beach. I'm just not used to getting attention because I never got much when I was younger. Maybe it's more confidence, although I only hesitated to reveal my thong suit the first time I wore one to the beach. The second time I just put my towel and other stuff down, shed my clothes and shoes and started reading a magazine. Fifteen minutes later, I realized I hadn't even looked around to see if someone were approaching, as I did the first time. I got used to it more quickly than I expected. [I had a couple of "tweens" see me off the beach at a little spot near the water. The were giggling at my suit. I should have said, "You think this is something wild? Don't you have internet access?"]

Da6772: Thanks for reading my experience on the beach. By the way not FL beach i visit. Clothing optional beach people i seen over the years unique  attire isn't that uncommon to see exhibitionism from shemales wearing anal makeshift plugs used as flag poles or bottle water holders.

Do take your suggestions of revisiting the black voluptuous gal in extreme one piece thong encouraging her so much more. From memory serves, i believe  seeing her before same spot on the beach with many gay males surrounding her for added protection. In fact she probably has all the neon colors in the extreme string thong pink, yellow, green, orange from previous years.
Although i felt my presence was not welcome or someone she respected or gives a damn. It could be my interpretation from only her nerves wearing such provocative sexy thong was so focused upon herself.
What i wanted to say if she stopped to chat.  Telling her not only the thong looked great,  she looked spectacular, best looking gal on the beach wearing a thong. At least she can gain confidence or believe i was at least hitting on her. Even mention it's shame she doesn't walk along the shoreline from c/o to textile side in that thong.
You have to understand my words has some influence from what i observe being hard to impress. Their is crowd that thinks i'm ridiculous, weird to wear c-rings, sling strings, thongs in public c/o beach without being ashamed. While others i observed that day were three older woman in 50's  topless visiting settling nearby my towel. They began to be intrigued what i was wearing earlier bulge thong to my Jovanna sling string. What i like to do change out of my thong to sling string showing off my c-rings glan rings while standing on the beach eating a fruit plate. Gives everyone a chance to observe me entirely, judging every little aspect of my appearance while i'm busy eating oblivious to there commentary. Little do they know i can clearly overhear their opinions. Some said i carefully pick right colors to coordinate my thong to hat i wear. Others believe i  enjoy the attention i'm given, very sexual exhibitionist, describing the purpose of my c-rings do for my appearance.. etc..

Agree with you first initial settling on the beach is most dramatic. Only because your stranger that is invading someone's space or closeby. All eyes are on the person or people camping out if its mid afternoon on crowded beach or late morning being few people around. People are watching asking who is he, what's he doing. Is he expecting more people joining him. Will he setup bbq or boombox, does he have dog, will he smoke. Is he purposely setting up near females to gawk making  him creepy. All these variables people will think of and finally watch what your going to wear.
I use to visit the beach i would set my towel and stand up and strip slowly to the people nearby all begin to watch. This was fun since your being judged of being prude conservative clothed  or nudist.  Always enjoyed the reaction from the people when i showed off my c-rings, smiles intrigued looks from the ladies. After the initial gauge  how my entire body appears people lose interest and just go about their business. No matter if you lay down or stand walking to the water they seen everything before once you settled in. Remember first impressions often are ones that count and remembered most.

Their is always others make a big deal out of you when on the beach. If your in the zone, forgetting the people around you this calms the nerves relaxes oneself.  Often i lay on my back for first hour of arrival. This makes me not looking around at those setting up closeby. Although i can overhear many arrivals if there male female groups, couples etc... After that i focus on my lunch meal turning on my side ignoring people to my right or left. After i turn directions i begin to observe who settles in my vicinity or walks around my towel to go to the water. Indicative for gals to walk around to gather better view front to back. Often i begin to notice a pattern once i start eating my fruit plate standing as many just walk right past me.

For the finale i change into a new thong for the road start to slowly packup dust the sand off my body and lastly put on my short shorts. When i walk off the beach passing others observing me from a distance i see their reactions. Often they admire my beach appearance or tan and clothes i have on.
