I'll be going to Siesta Key next week, never been there before. Anybody with any thoughts on what it's like and any suggestions would be appreciated. Can I wear a thong on the beach, will I be the only male? Any dining experiences there?

Thongs are legal on Siesta Key, however they're not very common there, even on girls. Not my favorite beach for a guy wearing a thong.

Most of restaurants you want are located on Ocean Blvd. Decent Pizza place was down the street where i stayed but don’t think he stayed in business. Beach is l typical textile atmosphere Siesta beach pavilion is wide with sand volleyball courts. You find younger adult crowd with lot of dork shorts. Relaxed atmosphere with visitors of midwest which never wear swimwear Amish presence. Good luck thonging hopefully they gone home by now.

Had a conference in Sarasota and decided to arrive early and spend a night in Siesta Key. I stayed at the Tropical Beach Resort and changed into a g-string after checking in. Headed for their private beach and was a bit disappointed. The beach is divided into small segments for each of the resorts along that section of the beach and the beach chairs cost $40. Took a dip and then headed back to the resort. They have two pools, one a traditional motel pool and a new, landscaped one with a waterfall. I enjoyed hanging out there until I got hungry. I walked to Spearfish Grille (after donning shorts and a shirt) and enjoyed one of the best Hogfish dinners I have had in the US. The next day I had a morning swim in the “old” pool (in a g-string) and then checked out. I donned another g-string and a black net pareo and drove to the public beach. It took a bit to find a parking space, but I finally scored one. I left the pareo in the car and headed for the Sand Pavilion where I ordered breakfast. I spent the rest of the day enjoying the beach, taking a long walk in the surf and having lunch back at the Sand Pavilion. I was able to rinse off and dry enough to put on clothes for my trip to the Sarasota Westin late in the day. Yes, the beach there is beautiful, and the sand is extremely fine. You can actually walk barefoot across a large stretch of beach mid-afternoon without burning your feet. The beach there appeared to be even more packed than South Beach, especially in terms of the number of tents erected by beachgoers. The typical attire is more conservative, dork shorts and few rio backs or smaller on the ladies. Nevertheless, I was not uncomfortable wearing a g-string all day.

I’ve been to Siesta Key several times in the smallest of thongs, but it’s been 7-6 years ago. This week I went with my wife as part of a tour of Southern Florida Gulf Coast beaches. I wanted to make sure she saw this one as well as it is a much different beach than others! We went on a Friday late afternoon for a couple of hours. It’s definitely a more attended beach of course it was also on a Friday late so I think some people were starting the weekend early. The sand is absolutely wonderful and the water is as well. I had my minimal Y-string thong on and saw other women with similar coverage. Again, as in most situations, we saw no other guys out here with minimal swimwear on. They just can’t fathom that or got the balls to do it. So for anyone who is apprehensive of getting out there in public in a thong, this is definitely a safe place to do so as it is very expansive and several women who are out there who are in thongs and nobody bats and eye even if a guy is out there in one!
