I am aware of the chat room function on this site, but I don't know if it is active. There is a Skype group chat for Thongboard members. Send me a message if you want to join the Skype group chat.

I've tried the chat room a few times and yes there are people in the but no one is chatting.

I wasn't even aware of a Chat Room until I saw this post!  So looked around and of course found the link at the top of the page.  So I click on it and it took me to the chat room, I saw the list of names there and tried to post a message but couldn't.  I'm not certain if one has to sign up or create an account of what........

I'd certainly engage with others occasionally if I could, so if anyone can give me some direction, I'd appreciate it.

You don't need to sign up, you just type your message in the "wants to say" box and then press the green SEND button. I always say "anyone about" just in case some one is still there. So far there never has been. To exit you need to press the red EXIT button otherwise you stay in the room when you close the window. Thats why the room looks busy even though its empty.

I had never used the Chat Room, but saw this thread and thought I'd investigate. I opened it and saw a list of names. I posted a message, but didn't get any replies so not certain if the list of names reflects who's in the room or not.

I've checked it several times over the past week and no one has ever responded. I think part of the problem is no one really knows when anyone else will be on. I suggest trying to have a regular time where interested people can try to be available and see what happens. If anyone is interested in chatting I'll try to check it out tonight around 11:30 eastern.

This message board uses OLD software but does, more or less, provide useful threads and information. There are LOTS of other internet hosts for various forms of chat, that do it well. However the best way to chat with other thongers is to GO to the beach !! Second best way is to just wear a thong as much as possible: Wear a thong when swimming laps, doing gardening etc. Others will come over to chat, saying they like your courage and wish they had the balls to wear that little in public. There is not much that can be said to a thonger on the other side of the world or nation in a text chat that can't be equally expressed as a message on this board. So to meet local thongers just go out in a thong. If you are public about your thonging other locals will find you.

Synchronous chat is much more organic and conversational in nature than an asynchronous message board, and feels more like actually talking *to* someone, as opposed to reading/writing relatively isolated opinions on set topics. Boards are great as information repositories, chats are far superior for actually getting to know people. As someone that has been involved in relatively successful chat services used by the members of this board in the past, I have one bit of advice: hang around for a while when the room is empty. If everyone is logging on and then off in five seconds there will never be more than one person in the room! Pop open another tab and multitask with the room open, and check back once in a while to see if anyone else has logged on. Sometimes is works and sometimes it doesn't, but it's really the only way to actually get a chat partner or two until the service develops a decent user base.

The only problem I have with this chat room for thongboard is when I'm typing and the other person sends a message, my typing disappears. I had to retype at least 6 times because the other person sent me a message before I could finish typing.
