There are several factors I have seen in the discussions on this board that affect our decisions on when, where and what to wear.

These include: (1) How Public, (2) The Presence/Proximity of Children, (3) The Threat of Legal Problems, (4) Undesired Recognition, (5) General Acceptance at the Site, (6) First Claim (first to arrive for the day)

Let's just discuss the PRESENCE or PROXIMITY OF CHILDREN in this thread. Save the other factors for other threads.

To what extent does the presence of children affect your decision on what to wear and how does it affect your decision?

it doesnt affect my decision on what I wear or my wife and daughter. yeah I get some complaints about the age of my daughter and what she's wearing and that she's topless with me and my wife, but I simply ask them:

Is she YOUR daughter or mine, and if there's a problem, then look the other way down the beach."

As I've stated, my daughter doesnt leave my eyesight when she's either at a nude beach with us, or topless or in a thong with  us. If she's with her friends, she'll dress according ly for the area.

If you don't mind my asking, Thongfreak, how old is your daughter? It sounds like yiou are teaching her to accept the human body in a healthy way, and that's good, but of course you have to deal with others who have their own opinions on what you should do.

I take it that what you wear, you wear regardless of other children too.

I think that if there are going to be a few kids around on a beach, I'll still go with a thong, but more kids and a smaller area such as at a smaller pool or an indoor pool (with less out of water space) I'd back off on thongs.

I'm also sure that I'd avoid a push-out style in that later situation and be more circumspect in where I spent my time in one with even a few kids on a big open beach. Defintely kids will lower the skimpiness for me.

Around my kids, it's a non-issue as to wearing thongs, for both myself and my wife. The kids see them as normal, as they do seeing either of us naked. Non-issue! As for other people's kids, I try to guage the parents reactions first, and probably get a feel for their attitude and behaviour. I don't tend to go thonging on too many densely populated beaches anyway, but I don't think many people have a problem with the rio style in those situations, so that is usually my choice .

Without posted exactly what Thongman said, I'll just compeltely agree with him because he mirrored what I was going to say. If we venture out to a part of the beach where there's alot of kids and families around, we'll dress accordingly, but we usually go to an area that wont cause problems because we always choose to either go nude or as minimal as possible without offending others.

My daughter is almost a teen now but has been thonging for atleast 3 years. This has indeed cause a serious stir up with a female member in here, which I havent seen for a long time. But yes, we're bringing up our daughter in a very respectful and healthy way.

If a parent confronts us, I'm usually the one that handles things. We've been approched by lifeguards and such, but we rarely visit indoor pools in skimmpy apparel.

For men the presence of children seems to be a big fear in American society with the social pressures on sexual abuse and parent's fears of sexual predators.  (yeah like any predator would call attention to himself in any way- that's why you don't see bright orange sharks or yellow hawks)

For females it's quite the opposite!  Some of the sexist females in the smallest suits I've seen on American beaches have had kids in tow.  Recently on South Beach several days in a row I saw a foxy mama with with a small toddler, a gorgeous tan topless in the tinist G string, (I couldn't ID it very well- possibly a Roma chip).

Once her husband was there, asleep on the towel in a bikini.  She was talking to some other young mothers while the kids played.  She was  USAmerican too, not South American as I first thought.  I've seen some thirty something women in thongs with kids or teenagers in tow.

Interesting story, Sailor. How would the presence of kids affect your decision of what to wear (ASSUMING that none of the other factors given at the top would come into play)?

I avoid beaches where there are lots of kids. There are just too many potential hassles. Usually the kids seem to take it in stride. It? the parents that get upset.

Interestingly I?e been to beaches in Guadeloupe, which is in the French Caribbean. There you will see entire families, including the teenagers to the parents totally nude on the beach and not thinking a thing about it.

Once I was one Crane? Beach in Ipswich, Massachusetts when a group of 30 to 40 of French Canadian kids with a teacher-chaperon came walking up the beach. When they saw me in my g-string. They immediately stripped off their swimsuits and dove into the water, obviously believing that they had hit the clothing optional section. A ranger saw them and immediately set the record straight.

Bottom line. Americans are too hung up on modesty. The damaging part is when you make sexuality and nudity seem ?irty.?Other cultures have a much healthier attitude

It kills me how men get such a bad rap as being stalkers and molesters, however, we are in a sense, the only ones who are ever busted for child porn or child molestation. In turn, men get a bad rap when wearing thongs in public.

I just recently had a run-in with a parent while in NC on the Outer Banks. She came up to me to confront me about what my daughter was wearing. I told the lady we were responsable parents, and that we have brought her up in a healthy manor. This is when Lisa, (my daughter) came out of the water and the lady really flew off the handle! She started talking louder and said "Hell, look, her bathing suit bottom is crammed between her l*bias and she doesnt have a top on!!!  She cant be, what, 12 years old??!"  My wife made a couple of comments, then, as proud as I was, my daughter spoke up and said:

"Miss, I choose to wear these kind of bathing suits, with my parents approval. I think they look nice on me, and my friends agree. I even have a couple that wear the same things I do."

The lady turned around and walked away. My wife made one more commemt with: "If you dont like it, dont look at it".

It's a shame men go thru what they do when wearing thongs. It's a shame we're labeled Gay or molesters.I really hope in the future that America lightens up and stops being so reserved and ass backwards!

It's GOT to!

Our world (yes Everyone!) is just becoming over-sensitised! After the freedom of the 70's, we seem to be retreating back to conservatism and being over-protective. The reasons why are probably good ones (the threats), but the control methods are not. Society and life seems to be gettting ever more less enjoyable and relaxed, and it ain't a good thing!

If we don't lighten up, we'll suffocate ourselves!

I personally never let what other people are on the beach effect my decision on what to wear, but I do tend to go to more secluded beaches and if I am in a G-string and a family comes up to the area I am in I was here first and they can either stay or go somewhere else

It is funny because the pool at my apartment complex that I swim in, and lay out at has a lot of parents with kids.  Usually the parents are much calmer than the kids, because they are a little bit more familiar with this particular type of fashion when I am wearing a tiny swimsuit at the pool!

Thongfreak, I have to hand it to your daughter for having the guts to stand up for herself the way she does!

My wife and I wear what we wear and that does not change much. Very small rio cut bikinis is about our only choice because that is basically all we own. We often have family days at our pool when some people come over and bring their kids. Usually the kids comment about what I wear the first time they se me but not always. Those that come over I think know what to expect and if that is an issue to them they choose to pass on our invitations. Toward the end of last summer we had 2 families over one afternnon. One family has a son aobut 9 and daughter about 11 and all of them wore pretty common stuff. Shorts for the guys and 2 piece for the daughter and a one piece for the mom who is a little on the big side. The other family who has been over numerous times mom wore a 2 piece bikini and dad and the 3 boys all wore speedos for the first time. It was supposed to be kind of a joke but nobody said a word. The mom said to my wife near the end of the day that she could not believe that her guys all got speedos to wear just over at our house and she was surprised nobody mentioned it. Jean told her whats to say, they fit right in here. I think once the first time self conciousness wore off the guys got comfortible with it. The 2 older boys have been over once since and still wore their speedos. I dont think they wear them anywhere else though, I am not sure. I would bet that with most all of our friends that if they knew kids were coming it might impact their decision on what to wear to some degree. maybe this season we will mix the two groups a little and see. I really cannot think of anybody that would be a problem with.

We find it sad that anyone should consider a "standard" male swimming costume - what the Americans seem to call "speedos" - as anything other than a normal boring piece of swimwear. They are neither brief, small, sexy or daring. Just dull and very very ordinary!

As a maker, Speedo was not a patch on the Jantzen!      Thats what we had as our first swimming costumes,  before we graduated to briefer things.........

As the originator of this and a few similar threads, I'd like to note that this one has gotten way off the original topic. While these more recent posts are interesting too, how about if further comments on these more recent lines are posted under topics with titles more close to the subjects of what a poster want's to say?

I also would like to see some further comments on the original question, of "ALL OTHER ASPECTS BEING NOT AT ISSUE, how does the presence of kids affect your decision on what to wear?"

Those of you who comment on the lines of "I don't go places where that would be an issue" are making an interesting comment that is topic related, but don't address the question per se. What would you do if you found yourself in such a situation where you couldn't change location and had to make your stand there? I'd like to hear your answer on that too.

When going to a public beach I try to get there early. I do not worry about children especially since the beach is not crowded and families can setup anywhere they please. It use to surprise me when familes would set up next to me when the beach was practically empty. Very few children seem to care.

I would not be uncomfortable in front of my own children in a thong or g-string, but unfortunately the ex wife still has joint custody and would go to court again. Since she likes going to court and making my life miserable I wear short boxer type swimwear around my kids.

This will not be popular considering the company, but I find it inappropriate to wear a thong in front of children.  I am a father and a long time thong wearer, and I would never go in public in a thong with my son.  Thongs are a sexual thing for me and I think that many others also feel this way.  An adult can make a rational decision about what they wear and where they go to the beach, not so with children.  The sexual nature of a thong should not be foisted upon children.  In an adult only area everything goes, but not with those under 18.  As for the mother sharing her opinion, I agree with her and think that we all need to share the responsibility of sheilding our younger generation from premature sexualization.  A thong is not a bathing suit.  We need to draw the line somewhere and for me that line is drawn at covering your butt cheeks.

Your opionion is not unpopular with me, Thongsurfer, nor should it be with anybody else on this board. Some will have different opinions, but you are not telling anybody what they should do, even if you have an opinion on it.

Thanks for answering the main question. I think you are saying that the presence of children would definitely cause you to wear something other than a thong, and you give a good reason for that. I think you are basicly right.

I would quibble though about thongs not being bathing suits. They can be, though they are not appropriate bathing suits for some situations. However as we have seen, especially for women, society's view on places where thongs might be acceptable seems to be growing.

I was at Ft. DeSoto Park a couple weeks ago, and there was a guy there whose wife was wearing a 1-piece bathing suit, and he and his son were both wearing 1" speedo-type suits!  I thought it was kind of cool!  They weren't wearing thongs, or even rio-backed suits, but it was cool that no one was wearing dork shorts, and everyone was wearing lycra!

If a parent wants to wear a thong or g-string when they're on the beach with their children, what's the problem with it?  It is no one's business but theirs!  I don't see how it would harm their children!  If a couple of parents are on the beach with their children, and they're wearing thongs or g-strings, how will it harm their children?  Could someone please give me a good answer to that one?  What is the harm in a parent being on the beach with his or her child and wearing a thong?  At least he or she is comfortable!  If they are much more comfortable wearing a thong, it will be more enjoyable for them!  Regardless of whether their kids are wearing "regular swimsuits" or thongs, at least if the parent is more comfortable, they are going to have more fun, and the kids are going to have more fun!

There are millions of kids who are neglected and abused by their parents, but a few people freak out over other people's kids wearing thongs with them!  At least the parents are spending quality time with their children which more parents need to do!  But like I said, people worry about parents letting their kids wear thongs on the beach(while under the supervision of the parents!) if they want to!  Thongfreak and his wife let their daughter wear a thong at a very early age, and from what he has said, she turned out having a higher self-confidence level because of it, and it sounds like she is much more secure about herself!

Someday when I'm married with children, believe me, their dad will be wearing either a tiny bikini, or a thong on the beach, regardless of what they're wearing!  By default, I think I would start my son(s) on bikini briefs, and if they want to stay with that range of swimwear as they get older, then fine, at least they know about the benefits as far as comfort goes, but if they want to go to shorts, that's their business.

I think being conscientious around children, and everybody else is important. I do not deliberately thong where I know there are children around, but then I also whatch my mouth when I'm around children.

On the other side, We have a right to be adults. As I have said, I do not thong or swear in the prescence of children. Nor do I buy them cigarettes, or skin magazines. But I do think all these are perfectly exceptable for adults to do(  and I think that thong wearing to some extent is appropriate for female and male teenagers) and we have a right to partake if we so choose.

Altimately, it is the parents job to protect their own children and yes, I have heard the old, "It takes a village..........." crap but still it's the parents that get final say over how the child is raised. Therefore, it is the parents who has to make the decision and while I am not a parent, it just seems easier to protect the child from society than it does to change the entire society.

I would also like some clarification on the question, "How does seeing an adult in a thong traumatize a child."

Has there ever been a study on this? or even, What is the logic behind it?

Thonging for some people might have sexual overtones but children aren't going to be aware of this. Chances are, most children have probably seen at least one of their parents naked. Does that traumatize them as well?

I firmly believe that if children are raised to think that the human body is just the human body, devoid of all sexual symbolism, then seeing a naked, or near naked, body will be nothing more than that.

I see it this way, the human body is what it is, deal with it! If you're too uptight about seeing someone else ina thong, or nude, then frwakin MOVE! Or leave the area! Who cares who was there first! EVERYone looks at their naked body in the miror almost everyday, freakin accept it for what it is!

My strategy is usually to set up on a beach where it is not very crowded...in that way, people who come along have the option to sit nearby or go elsewhere. I have found that the majority of people, including adults and children, just plain don't care whether I am in a g-string. Of course, there always are some that make some sort of snide remark or turn around and hightail it as far from me as is possible. I have been fortunate over the past several summers, since I have found 2 wonderful beaches where thonging is normal...this allows me to relax and have a great time at the beach just like everyone else!

I have seen the same reaction when I've been thonging.   ONCE a family with two younger girls (young teens maybe) turned and went to another area of the beach.    If I'm arriving at the beach, I don't set up near children and usually not real close to others at all.

There have been MANY times when  couples, families, families with children of all ages, and even guys in board shorts have set up very near to my spot.   Recently, these two guys in their 20s set up near by.  I was a little uncomfortable at first but they didn't say anything negative at all.  We talked briefly when one of them asked for the time or something like that.

I think there is a big difference between thong underwear (in the house) and thong swimsuits (in public).  Regarding the first....we have two daughters 6 and 7.  From the day each was born, they have only ever seen their mother with g-string underwear.  My wife does not own any full backed underwear and has not worn any in about 10 years. What do my daughters think....that is what mommie wears...thats it.  There is nothing in the way of negative connotation, inference of anything sexual or anything other than...thats mommies underwear.  They are probably thinking that is what they will wear when they get "big".  (we have explained that little girls wear some things, and bigger girls wear other things....no problems at all).

Regarding swimsuits, we go a little different way.  We live in the very conservative northeast.  When we are in public with our children, we are dressed pretty much like every other family.  Wife has a couple of rather conservative (for her) two piece bikinis, and i wear thigh length swim trunks.  Fact of the matter is, we are still amongst the least conservative couples at the country club pool (as most are in dork shorts and 1 piece tanks), but still totally appropriate.  Like it or not, the social norms of our environment stipulate that is about the limit for us.  Our kids see us dressed similarly to every other parent in the complex.

When we are not with our kids, we are still very cognizant of our environment.  South beach or Sandy Hook, where basically anything goes....I'm in a muscleskins MPX and wife is topless in a wicked weasel G.  We walk to and from the water without covering up and sometimes even take small strolls around the area we are set up.  Jersey shore, where there are thousands of kids and families....I am still in a thong (Muscleskins MP this time) and wife wears a wicked weasel thong with the top on.  We set up as far away from any potential "issues" as we can.  We basically keep to ourselfs, we put "acceptable" swimwear on to go in the water, and we cover up with apprpriate beach attire when we go for walks.

We are not trying to make any social statements...we really just want to relax, enjoy our days, get our tanlines and have fun without causing any rukus.  Its all common sense, if you dont go looking for problems, problems usually wont find you.  As far as the kids go, maybe someday we will thong in their presence.  At this stage of their life, it just is not time yet.  Maybe if we lived in a different place like miami or southern calif, it would be different. But up here in the northeast, it is what it is...and we are fine with that for now

In my experiences I've noticed that most kids don't really care.  At least not the younger aged children.  It seems to be once they reach the Jr. High age that they might make a comment or something, but otherwise most kids won't really care.  I've walked up and down the beach on Venice in CA and never had any negative or disconcerting comments from younger children.  There was one time, while wearing a thong, when a little toddler was running along the sand as I was walking by and a stumbled a bit.  I helped him up and chatted with his mother a bit.  She assured me that he'd be fine and I went on my way.  I was treated like anyone else on the beach.  No mention of my suit or anything, just treated as any other person.

Another time while at the same beach, a mother and her younger son set up about 15 yds away from me on a relatively empty stretch of the beach.  Neither of them made any remarks or even made any notice about it.  I don't really think it is that much of an issue if you just act normal.  If you're just another person on the beach who just so happens to be wearing a skimpy swimsuit, I don't think you're perceived as a threat at all.

The presence of children affects just about everything in our daily lives, not just swimwear. Not to get too far from the subject, but children will react the way they are brought up. My kids have only known me to wear thongs, underwear and swim. my kids make to big deal over it. Even if they see some one in a thong in a beach seen on tv or what ever, they make no comment. I have thonged in my pool with some neighbors of ours, infront of their kids and not a word was said by them because the parents did not make a fuss over it.  I encourage my kids not to make judgements based on peoples appearance because the same would/will happen to them.

As for a thong being appropriate or not depends on the style I would say. A standard thong or G string is fine, even small ones. But when you start getting into the provocative styles such as mesh, sheer, torpedo or other, then the presence of children becomes an issue.  But if you were in a empty area of a beach wear what you want, I would. if some one shows up with or without family in tow, it's up to them whether or not to be around. i wouldnt move on or change or cover up because some one shows up. It's up to people to decide  when and where to be or expose themselves and children to, objectinable or not.
I would wear what I want if first to an area. Even showing up and being to the outskirts or edge gives you freedom as well. But setting up in the middle of a crouded beach, I would use a little discretion, based on the attitude "climate"...

Living in South Florida, I have not had the opportunity to find a beach with few children around. The presence of children is not one of the factors in my decision regarding what to wear. Many times I have been lying out on the beach and had a family or group of families with children set up next to me. Children don't care what the strangers around them are wearing. (Teenagers, on the other hand, are another story).

The issue is really about what others expect.  Children are not necessarily the issue.  When I go to a nude beach, I'm nude and there are many nude parents and children there. When my wife and I are the only ones home, I swim nude in our pool.

If one of my male friends comes over to swim and my wife isn't home, I'll tell him we can swim nude if we want.  In fact, even if my wife were home, I'd tell him that and I would also tell him that my wife would stay inside while we swam if he wished.

On the other hand, if family with children comes over, I wear a speedo--the thick kind.  I know they're not expecting to see me in a thong and that wearing one will not enhance our relationship.  I can swim nude after they've left in a few hours, so it's not a big deal.

Same thing goes if another couple comes over, unless we know them well enough to discuss swimming attire beforehand, in which case my wife would take care of it with the other wife.  I wouldn't want my friend thinking I was interested in seeing his wife, or her seeing me, in a thong or less.

I also had this problem for several years and this was a real pain.  Last thing in the world I needed was to give the ex an excuse for more legal action.  Sad that this should be so (a thong being an excuse for legal action), but this is the US.

Well when i go to the beach i like to set up where there aren't many kids around because I try to be considerate, I know that some parents don't want their kids around all that. But later on, they set up near me and the kids usually don't say anything. They just play and have fun like any other day. But i've seen people to begin setting up near me (she had a teen daughter) and then move down further... i dunno if its because I am in a thong, or they just wanted to move. But usually no one says anything. The only reactions that i get from kids are the young teenager.. like about 13 or 14..... they just have surprised looks on their faces. and my beach doen't have many thong-wearers at that either, so i guess thats why they go crazy. It would be different if it was south beach, you'd get used to seeing thongs, and then its expected to be seen everytime u are there. not mine tho... its more like an every now and then thing that u see.

Its definitely true.  Kids rarely have any problem with your thong, only adults (and teens).

Seeing a naked person or someone in a thong will not rot the brain of a kid.
What rots kids brains is the violence on TV. (Thanks Crime Scene CSI for the slow motion replays of the killings.)

Nudity or wearing a thong, where the person is not engaging in other behavior that is lewd, is not against the law in most states.

Just like seeing a fisherman standing in a river in a pair of green waders does not give a kid a rubber fetish, seeing a nude old nude man does not give kids a sex fetish. The most harm it will ever really cause is a fit of giggles.

This might not be the ideal place for me to comment on what im about to say but I will anyway.

To start off I am going to say that of the majority of this country (probably about 45 out of 50 states) is regressing instead of progressing, as both a culture and society.
While most of the free world goes on, we keep holding ourselves back because we don’t understand the rules of respect and diversity.

Basically men in general have caused the problem with wearing thongs in the US.
Now before you get mad, let me tell you why based on only my personal experiences.
I hope that you will take this as constructive criticism and not personally.

Wearing a thong to the beach or in public is about being comfortable, having fun and getting a good tan!

No women or man wants to see a guy in an extreme thong with his junk hang out, that’s not a thong! Everyone needs to learn what a thong is first: Thongs show your bottom and nothing else.  If you want to show of anything more then your bottom, you need to join some private club that accepts that behavior. A nude beach or club is not the place for that either! Nudity is not about exposing yourself to others!

Now that’s not even the start...Now you wearing your thong, or less, or more: You guys proceed to "seek out" any females that are alone, with friends, or kids and then you begin your B/S.

Women/Girls on the beach, in thongs or regular bikinis do not want men sitting right next to them PERIOD! Everyone should be at least 3-6 yards away from each other.   We don’t want you guys coming over to us and commenting about how nice we look or telling a bunch of lies about your life or job. If we wanted to talk to you we would come over and ask.
Just because someone is wearing a thong doesn’t mean they are their for your pleasure. True respectful thong wearers chose to do so because it’s what they prefer, not to show off!   The problem is men have labeled thongs as a sexual thing. Wither you’re gay or straight, wearing a thong not a free invitation for sex! Men need to understand that it maybe fine to admire a cute bottom or a nice figure, you do so from a distance. Its not acceptable or ok to start forming a cround around us just to gawk or get off. I can’t tell you how many times this has happened to myself and dozen of others I have know in my life. You guys need to check yourselves and learn how to respect the boundaries of others.   I could go on but I will stop here and simply say. Men have associated thongs with sex and take things to the extreme, instead of being respectful. So now those men who have engaged in that type of behavior have basically ruined it for everyone else. So if you’re getting hassled by someone you can probably thank yourself and review your behavior first. If your one of the few like myself that enjoys wearing a thong respectfully then your not at fault, but everyone else needs to start changing there behavior.   Basically for these general reasons is why thongs have gotten such a bad wrap and a why I believe others don’t want children or themselves around those who wear thongs. So Nice Going Extremist!

I want to commend Thongfreak and say that I think your family has done a great job of addressing your  family’s choice to freely wear thongs.  I am glad that your daughter is outspoken and openly wears here thongs, mine do the same. I would love to hear from you, feel free to email me here anytime. As a mom of two daughters I am sure we share other similar experiences and issues with kids and thongs.

FamBotms

Your use of the generalization "men in general have caused the problem with wearing thongs in the US" reveals a lack of knowledge about the vast diversity among males, the many posts on this thongboard by men expressing sensitivity regarding the feelings of others, and the many cultural and historical factors leading to a fear of sexuality among parts of the US society.

Your comments are true regarding SOME men and you will find many posts on this board decrying their actions.

Getting back to the point of this thread, I thong on a large but crowded beach. Many times, as I am laying out in a thong or g-string, a family approaches and sets up right next to me, unconcerned about my choice of swimwear. Kids hardly notice what others are wearing and take it in stride. The one time (in many years of thonging) that someone made a comment regarding my choice of swimwear and the fact that there were "kids around" it was a middle-aged single male without any kids in his presence.

Getting back to the question at hand
In The Presence of Children vs. What to Wear? (kids)

(I meant to add this before)

It is my personal opinion that there no problem for ANYONE to "respectfully wear a thong in front of kids or adults. The problem arises when people go beyond just wearing a thong and proceed to expose other parts of there body “on purpose” for there own personal sexual gratification or fantasy.

The fact remains that most men (not all) “in the US” use thongs as a starting point to test the limits of exposing themselves in pubic and then quickly proceed with other extreme behavior. (I don’t think I have to spell out what I mean by extreme). I say this because I have seen this occur many times, not just once. It time that people stop behaving in that manor and respect others.

Bmicro just because you don’t it does not mean that other men do the same. When someone wears a thong in public they represent the thong community as a whole. Now that men have associated thongs with sex and proceeded to act in a deviant manor it has given thongs a  bad wrap for everyone else.

You can feel sexy in a thong like Kai028's posted but that does not mean its ok to expose yourself to others for your own personal pleasure. That’s not what wearing a thong is about, all of Europe and south American understands it, but here in the US people do not know how to respect each other.

I totally disagree with you. I don't believe, and it has not been my experience that "most men in the US use thongs as a starting point to test the limits of exposing themselves in pubic and then quickly proceed with other extreme behavior"

Yes we do get some flashers and other pervs, but most men in small swimsuits are not flashers or pervs.  We all have to deal with the fact that flashers and pervs are attracted to thong friendly and nude beaches like moths to a light, flicking in and out around the periphery.  But this is not most men.  The simple fact is that if more men wear smaller swimsuits the percentage of pervs amongst them will be less.

Apart from turning in the pervs at every opportunity, or directly confronting them and telling them to shape up, or getting photographic evidence and having them arrested, there is not much we can do about them. Grumbling does not help. Getting more men in small swimsuits will help because it will further dilute the few problem people.

I agree with you when you say men who have "associated thongs with sex and proceeded to act in a deviant manor it has given thongs a  bad wrap for everyone else."  Yes a few have caused a bad rap for others, but you should not leap from that to concluding that having a smaller front on a thong makes a man deviant.

Suits where the sex organs are uncovered, or which hold it out like a truncheon / Viagra advertisement are obviously inaproprate for public venues.  But small suits that keep it tucked in are not deviant.

It is not the suit that is the problem, it is the behaviour.  The person would be a perv if they behaved that way no matter how they came to the beach.

I think most men wear thongs on the beach for the same reason women wear thongs, as swimsuits.  As swimsuits that cover what needs to be covered and no more.  Obviously when wearing suits with smaller fronts it might be a very good idea for people of both sexes to shave or trim, so they keep it all tucked in.

Do thong swimsuits both allow and express a freedom of dress, yes. But they are no more a gateway to being a perv as wearing lipstick or a thong is a gateway drug for girls turning into hookers.  Yes hookers wear lipstick and thongs but the lipstick and thongs were not the cause.  Most of us don't go round assuming every girl or women seen wearing lipstick is a whore even though every whore wears lipstick.

Men have sex organs on the front, women have tits.  We don't expect women to bind their breasts flat, nor should we expect men to do the same, but if a women accentuates her breasts with conical bras topped with tassels we generally disprove, same thing for men wearing suits designed to project their sex. Though I must admit, I have seen women wearing push up bras in public on more than one occasion and the world did not end.

The problem is not that most men in thongs are pervs, it is that a few obvious pervs wear thongs and so people start associating thongs with pervs and start to see every thonger as a potential perv.  It is the same problem that Police have.  Most interactions between people and police are friendly and respectful but because a few of them are not, and theses events are dramatic and traumatizing for the participants, most people now fear the police and try to avoid all contact. Fear is contagious, if their friends fear the Police then they do too, even though they don't have direct experience.

I think you have hit on one important point, all men who go to the beach in thongs should act appropratly, and tell anyone giving us a bad name to knock it off.

JM_Runs I respect your feed back.
I am just saying that unfortunately that’s what I have seen occur.
I think that kind of general behavior has given thongs a bad wrap.

If you’re going to the beach wearing a thong, have fun wearing a thong and be respectful and courteous to everyone. If your gong to a nude beach it’s the same, go "completely" nude and act in a respectful manor.

When it all comes down to its anything is fine as long as its done with respect.

I agree, allays act respectfully to others and if going to a nude beach you might as well go nude, although I do notice some women fell more comfortable only going topless.  The best way to respect others is not to stare at them, crowed them, follow them around. Just carry on as if they were not their but when meeting or crossing smile in a friendly, respectful way, not in a creepy clown way.

That said, back to the presence of children on a beach, children are just like other people, only less aware of adult issues like sex, therefore if they even notice an adult is wearing a thong or going nude they are only likely to look with curiosity or possibly, if they are teenagers, have a fit of giggles.

Sometimes a kid will point out the nude person to their parents as something new, as in "look that persons got no clothes on" just like they might say "look that bird is eating the seaweed".  That does not mean the child found either the nude or the bird shocking, it's just something new on the beach.

Personalty I never worry about children, unless they are a gang of 17 year old boys.  The only problem I have ever had is with a few  their small minded parents, who would still have small minds even if they had not brought their kids with them. Most parents, which are more commonly mothers with kids, seem to have no problem with men thongs, or at least they don't with me. They just act normally and I do too.

I am starting to disagree with some of the things FamBotms is saying. Men are not pervs because they wear extremely skimpy suits in as much as woman who wear really skimpy suits are pervs. I think the same rules should apply to both men and women when making these assumptions, and asa general rule, if you dont think its true for one sex it probably isnt true for the other either. I also dont think pervy men pushing the limits ruined thong acceptance, i think thongs show ass and bigots and prudes dont like to see ass (or at least thats what they claim, which is funny because porn sales in America would say otherwise.) Wearing a thong, is both sexy, practical, and follows the natural contours of the body. Wearing a thong is being proud of your body and showing it, children wearing thongs is different in that children are obviously not sexually active and therefore a thong is simply a comfortable garment they can wear and have fun in the sun without exposing their whole body-which is what swimwear is supposed to do. There will always be strange people who think tweens are sexual objects or who want to expose themselves, but lets not generalize and be paranoid and freaked out by people who refuse to apologize for not being ashamed of wearing the most miniscule thongs. This board is for thongers and i shouldnt have to feel like a perv for thongin.

It's awfully hypocritical to claim men are ruining thongs and made them sexual after women went through the whole exposing your thong fad earlier in the decade...

As I stated in my post: “I hope that you will take this as constructive criticism and not personally”

tangathong If you’re only showing your bottom then there’s no problem. I tried to make it clear that the problem occurs when men take it to an extreme and proceed to expose everything. I have personally never seen females do that at a public beach but I have seen many males do so. However I do support everyone who respectfully wears thongs. But men need to stop behaving badly, thonged or not.

Djon While it may have been (fashionably) acceptable for women to show there thongs a decade ago. Most do not do so anymore because of all the negativity (as clearly made evident in this board). Many of you say its ok for you to personally wear a thong (and expose other parts of your body beyond your bottom) but then some of the same people take offense to a family with kids who want to sport the thong look as part of fashion, personal choice of comfort and freedom. Spending there day outside playing Frisbee, volleyball or just making sand castles,  just having  fun while getting a thong tan.

I never said it was ok to expose yourself and I can only stress that there is a time and place for everything. Beachware is beachware where so long as its age and location appropriate.

The fact that women do not generally show off their thongs now doesn't change the fact that it was women, not men, who who started the exposure backlash.

I think it's ok to wear "the most minuscule thongs" as long as they don't over emphasize the male's anatomy too much (as for example a MPX Muscleskins or a Dore Thorpedo can do).  Those suits are more appropriate to the bedroom in my opinion.  Personally I'm not a big fan of the most minuscule thongs.

I seem to agree with Djon;  it is very hypercritical for women to blame men for making thongs 'sexual' and perhaps ruining its reputation,  after it was exactly women who went over the top to take advantage of the sexual connotation of thongs, and showing them off everywhere they could, including the fat tattooed muffin top lass at McDonalds, she thought she was sexy too and why not show her fat and thongs to the world....

Even in parties and social functions, women use their anatomical attributes to the most, emphasizing their breasts, and until a few years ago, even showing off their thongs out there on view to everyone, whereas men  at the same function would be expected to wear the classical long pants, shirt and jacket combination.

Many women criticize men wearing minimal swimwear.  They believe that IS a territory that belongs ONLY to women.  They forget (or perhaps they do not know) that thongs were created by men, for men, many many years ago when men were hunters and athletes.  Only many, many years after, thongs were adopted by women, but since then people have come to believe that they only belong to women.  Many women didn't embrace thongs just because of comfort or maximum exposure to the sun,  they also looked for the attention from men.

Men also have the right to dress sexy but over the years this has  been fading, in part thanks for an absurd idea that a man being sexy is equal to be gay.  A classic thong in a solid colour, is the perfect attire that any man could wear on the beach. It says to the world "I am confident, and feel comfortable with my masculinity and sexuality, therefore I walk, swim and run wearing a thong, because I like how I look on it"....

The problem is the media and the fashion gurus (who are moved by economic interests) decide for the majority of the population what should they wear, and their advice is followed to the word like a herd of sheep....
How many times do we see TV commercials where a husband and wife interact, and the husband is the stupid one, the untidy one, the one who burps? But if it were the other way around, a TV commercial where the husband patronizes the wife, and treats her like she is just an idiot, it would cause immediate furore and anger from the community.

We, men contribute to this.  We don't get involved in primary teaching, we leave the whole territory to women to teach boys how to dress and act when they need to grow up.  We don't express our feelings, or stand up for our selves in this matter.  We let our wives and mothers decide for us what to wear, I know many men whose underwear are bought by their Mums or wives. We allow women decide what we should not wear on the beach, because some women consider any protuberance from the groin area something disgusting and they forget that that part is only a natural part of the male anatomy.  As natural as women's breast are.
Men are men.  We look like men and we shouldn't be afraid or embarrassed to show off that our bodies look different to the opposite sex.

Coming back to the topic of this thread:  One way how men can contribute to change this unfair perspective, is to teach their children that a human body, male or female, is something beautiful, to be proud of not something to be ashamed of or that they need to shield their children from viewing.  At my local swimming pool \ I notice that most fathers with children shower themselves and their children behind closed doors at my local swimming pool changing rooms.  They never shower in the common showers with the rest of us.

I may have been a little harsh on you guys, perhaps I should not said "most men", however a lot of men have behaved badly around me. To our credit they weren’t all in thongs.
My girls reminded me that there are always bad apples out there and it does not mean that one particular group is really at fault. They also said that everyone: men, women and kids are entitled to make there own individual choice to wear something either conservative or extreme. That everyone should accept kids or men in thongs, the same way it’s accepted for women.

How do most people feel about wear g-string, thongs around kids?  I have worn them at the pool with no problems when I was younger and thought nothing of it.  But these days, I sometimes worry if I am alone, I tend to stay clear of kids at the pool or by the pool,

Recently I went to one of the beach bars in Ft Lauderdale that I normally go to.  I went in and talk to the bartender who is Brazilian and a knockout.  I had on my Missele G-string hot lime suit, basically a @@@@@@ suit.  She always wants me to wear it, so I oblige,  It was 10 in the morning on a sleepy week day.

I knew she had a 12 year old daughter, because told me.  Anywhy, we were talking and she ask me to help with the beer keg that was in the next room.  The next room contains a basketball game and a fuseball table and darts and a computer for people to use.  I walked in the next room. At the same time as we walked in the room of the bar I hear a voice and walked right into her daughter who was walking my way.  I was shocked and very nervous. I could tell the mom was concerned at my reaction because of her daugther, who looked right down at me.  She said do not worry, they go to Hallover beach all the time and her daugther was not seeing something she had not seen before.

I had a few quck beers to relax me and the daughter who was about tall, about 5 foot nine came over to me and said she wanted to play darts.  Her mom said sure ask Tom if he would like to play.  At first I said no, then the daughter said come on and play.  After a while, it was very relaxing and no problem.  I was playing darts with practically nothing on, no problem.  It is funny how open brazilians are.  I could not not see many other moms so relax, but then again they go to the Nude Beach on Weekends she told me.  Once again, you have to know your audience or you could get in trouble.

My opinion is that swimmwear choice when not taken to a flasher level is always family and child friendly. I live in Germany and here if you're not trying to be a flasher and are confidient with what you wear then you are left alone and no one thinks twice about it. In the USA I think they are wrong for always connecting minimal swimmwear or undies / panties with sexual perves. My 2 cents, have a good one.
