Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/09/2014 06:03:22Copy HTML I have been tending to wear bikini briefs at the neighborhood beach as too not rock the boat. I also wear thongs on the weekdays. MD law if enforced, can cite you for your bottom showing. Anyway...
The other day I passed a Dad and his son who had on some longish boxer trunks on. This is a small boy. I overheard him telling his dad that he wants to wear his underpants on the beach too (like I was). The dad says, those aren't underpants son, that is his swimsuit. Maybe the kids list of possibilities is a little broader now, oh and I hope he tells his mom he wants to wear his underpants on the beach. ;-) |

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:10/01/2014 12:50:38Copy HTML One day this past Summer I was at a local beach that has a reputation as a gay beach. I'm straight, but I find skimpy swimwear much more accepted there. I was sunning with the straps on my thong unhooked and the front turned down, when a group of about twenty girls about nine years old arrived, apparently as part of a day camp outing. The camp councilors, in their mid-twenties, had to be aware of what sort of beach-goers would be there, but led the campers right through us.
Neither the councilors or the campers paid us any mind, but I felt very uncomfortable, and soon re-fastened my suit. On the other hand, I've had parents walk with their kids right past me in my thong with no issues at the same beach. |

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:02/19/2015 02:11:58Copy HTML Conservative town here in SW Florida, and a family beach down the end of our street, but I wear my thongs and g-strings there all the time. Setting up toward the rear of the beach, not too close to others, but right out in the open, I've nothing to hide. Lots of kids around, some come rather close, especially chasing birds or their dad's football. The adults don't seem to care, and the kids could care less. Very civilized, never hassled. I figure if they don't like what I'm wearing, they'll keep their distance. We're all happy, just enjoying our day in the sun, sand and surf.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:02/20/2015 02:44:48Copy HTML I have in the past went out of my way to isolate myself from families on the beach, and more often than not I would end up having a family completely aware of my state of swimwear, usually a very sheer or fishnet micro G-string. Come and set up right next to where I was. I have even en formed the parents, "that my swimsuit doesn't really cover much, and I do like to go back and forth to the water when I get hot" and I don't want to upset you... Most of the time they say don't worry we don't mind, and on occasion I have had the parents of the children, say "we are aware of your G-string and choose to come down to this end of the beach because we also wear thongs and G-strings"

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:04/17/2015 12:56:50Copy HTML i havent had the chance to thong at a beach yet, but parents are aware of the types of suits that are out there. So when i get the chance to thong at a beach, with my family in tow, my kids know i wear thongs, thats all theyve known me to wear, it wont be an issue for us. If another "family" shows up i will not be changing for them. Most kids are not going to have an issue with what people wear, or dont wear, its mostly the adults. There may be i itial curiosity by the kids, but that soon wears off in a few minutes. Then they could care less. Ive thonged in front of a few neighbors kids, and none care. The only time there was an issue with some one wearing a thong, was when i convinced a female friend, mother of my daughters friend, to wear a thong. Her daughter made an initial big deal about hwr mother wearing a thong, not me. After a few minutes, it was a non-issue.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:04/17/2015 04:12:39Copy HTML Last month I was on my regular run down the beach.
On the way North I noticed a couple of women with a very large group of kids who were all nosily running around. (Unusual, as kids are normally in ones or twos, sitting with parents or playing at the waters edge.) On my way back one of the women called out to me and asked me to stop for a moment. I was half expecting a lecture about wearing a thong with all the kids about. No, they wanted a picture of me with the kids. They rounded up the kids who seemed to be from about 3 to 8 years old, and they took a few pictures of me with the line of kids. Turns out they were from a Northern State, just down here on vacation. Kicked my self later, for I should have asked for a copy of the photo. |

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/25/2015 11:55:43Copy HTML I was chatting with a local woman who sunbathes topless at the local beach, and asked her if she had ever had any issues from the life guards. she said the only flack she'd gotten was from some mom who yelled at her to cover up "Because of the children". Unless they've been strictly bottle fed, what child HASN'T see a bare breast?

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/26/2015 02:36:06Copy HTML I posted about this last year. I had been swimming laps at the gym pool for years in skinzwear 1/4 rio suits without problem. Last year I was wearing a JS Kinny and about to get into the water when the swimming instructor (woman about 70) came over and told me I couldn't wear that suit at the pool because there were kids. First off it was about 1:30 in the afternoon on a school day when the 8-10 year old boys should have been in school. Second, the boys change in the locker room where I change, so they've already seen me naked. Just the week before there was a woman doing laps in a thong.
Since then I've just worn my Swimoutlet euro suit (small speedo) to do laps. Last week I went down to the gym pool after my weight workout and there were two women in thongs, tops undone, buns side up next to the laps where the swim lessons were going on. Different instructor (much younger) couldn't care less and I don't think the kids doing their workout even noticed. The the pool management should talk to their staff and at least be consistent about telling people to cover up. I feel like sending the gym a letter and ask why the two different standards for swimwear. Last weekend I was at the main beach in Santa Cruz and wore my JS thong. I set up a reasonable distance from anyone. Within about an hour or so a group of 4 moms with kids in tow set up about 10 feet from me. I was thinking oh great. But 3 of the 4 moms stripped down to extremely small cheeky suits, almost thongs. Then I thought their kids see mom's buns all the time so it's no big deal seeing a strangers. There was no feeling "strange" on anyone's part. |

Try going over to the women who sun in thongs and ask them if you can lay out with them, Say "I am a little nervous about sunning in my cheeky suit, so can I lay out with you for moral support." Women identify with this feeling and need for mutual support. They do this themselves, on the "If you will I will" system. |

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:06/11/2016 10:17:27Copy HTML After having a g-string clad swim at an ocean rock pool yesterday, I found a sheltered spot and decided to get some sun. I'd just lain down and fully 'minimised' my Skinz M1R2 when Mum, Dad and five kids aged about 3 to 15 turned up. As often is the case, the kids started playing as far away from the parents as they could, which just happened to be near me. Mum and Dad then had a low volume discussion, occasionally glancing in my direction. Mum then came over to me and ......... apologised for the kids making a lot of noise! I replied, "No problem, that's what kids do." She laughed and told to me to enjoy the rest of the day.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:12/14/2017 02:13:17Copy HTML I was at my local state park lake-beach in the South of USA this fall on a Saturday. This is a very small beach and only about 100 yards of shoreline. Not a big crowd since it was later fall here. Big lake - small public beach... go figure. I was buns up in my thong and a group of 20-25 boys came to the beach with their chaperones. I'm not sure of what the group was, but it was all boys 13-16 years of age and had male chaperones. They were there for about an hour and were all around and I ended up to be right in the middle of them as this is a small area. Throwing the ball and Frisbee right over and around me. I rotated on both sides and went into the lake for swims and I have to say, there was absolutely ZERO comments, snicker, or whatever. Very respectable group and it just shows all that we are all normal, have a body that is similar to others, and we all have our rights.
To me, younger kids are not phased, They may ask or look but they really don't care. Kids will question, but not really judge. That judgement comes from our "judgement" that we form in our mind. Small minds in some cases. |

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:12/14/2017 07:28:19Copy HTML It's been my experience that it is the Parents who have a problem with the naked or semi-naked human form. They start to squirm when their kids ask questions about the bodies they may see upon the semi-clad beaches. Kids are curious as they should be, learning new things every waking moment. It is sad that they learn to be negative because of parental & familial mores & insecurities.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:12/14/2017 10:44:49Copy HTML If it's a place where I know I'm within legal rights, I'll still basically do what I do, but try not to cause a scene or parade back and forth in front of folks with kids. As everyone has said, the kids wouldn't care much, but the parents freak out sometimes. No need to push my luck, or set back what thong freedom we DO have by pissing someone off, and setting the morality police on our trail!

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:12/16/2017 04:21:02Copy HTML Don't think I've described this on this thread butt had an interesting afternoon once on South Beach. I was alone, went out and rented a beach lounger which was a little away from the others. It wasn't that crowded of a day or area. I'm wearing a "semi kini" custom suit which is just a torpedo pouch with hip string on one side only- so I'm "nude" from some angles. I'm laying on my stomach facing east since it's afternoon and reading a book. I hear some female voices and kids talking beside me. Ironically they approached on my "bare waisted" side. I look over and two moms brought their toddlers through 5 year old girls and boys- there were three kids and they had loungers moved over about 8 feet from mine and the kids were spreading out their toys next to my chair. So for the next two hours they were playing away, right next to me while I was alternating back and forth. The moms were Latinas, were in small bikinis didn't seem to be ooging me. Everything just seemed "normal" - maybe too normal- I wasn't looking for a kiddie playground that afternoon. At first I felt a little self aware being almost naked but since no one cared and they came up to me I relaxed

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/21/2019 02:06:06Copy HTML Was at Alum Creek on Saturday, there was some kind of soccer thing going on on the beach,Damn end. Does anybody know what it was. So less beach on a very hot day and a lot of people.
I set up by 2 girls one wearing a pretty cheeky bikini. The beach still had some empty space but what I do not understand is why so many families chose to set up right by me,I was surrounded by kids. After about an hour I really got uncomfortable because I am laying there in a thong and little kids are all around me. I got this little girls beach ball twice and when I gave it to her her eyes went right to my bulge. I guess I stated to wonder what was going thru her head.
I know there are a lot of people wearing thongs on this sight, what would you do or I guess what do you think I should have done. The beach was just too crowed to move so I went to Salt Fork. It was crowded but I found some space by 2 people. She felt I had the right idea with it being so hot.
On another note there are not many people wearing thongs on the beach any more been to Alum Creek 3 times this year and have been the only one wearing a thong.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/21/2019 02:30:47Copy HTML Thong1066 -- You did everything right -- don't worry. If parents have no issues with you in a thong there is nothing to be sorry about. Yes, some kids might wonder about your buns or your bulge, but the parents obviously have no issues, or they would not have set up so close. This statement assumes that you did not hide what you were wearing.
Sociologists and therapists tend to feel that children exposed to nudity (or near-nudity) are usually better adjusted later in life than those who are hidden from near nudity.
I get the same type reactions when I go topfree. Many children don't even seem to notice. Most parents are cool with my bare breasts. Randy (my husband) is a thonger and sometimes gets the same reactions you got.
If it was the first time a kid saw something unusual, it is normal to expect them to do double takes, or look intently at what is distracting them.
With women's swimwear shrinking almost yearly, their kids probably will see lots more thongs and almost thong on women than other small children have for a generation. A guy in a thong reinforces that men and women are in many ways equal.
If you want to make sure everything is okay, you can always ask the parents (as soon as the family shows up) if your thongs is okay, and offer to change or move if they have issues with what you are wearing. Almost everyone we have ever ask says our thongs or me going topfree is okay. Some people actually will respect you more for having ask. But if you do ask someone who is on the boarder of accepting your swimwear look might decide that yiour swimwear choice is inappropriate.
We have even got a "what's wrong with what you are wearing" type answer many times. Many older people -- maybe from their late forties and up might even admit they either wore thongs at the beach when they were younger or knew others who had or always wanted to wear a thong. These people are probably remembering the Golden Age of Thongs in the 1980's and 1990's.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/21/2019 01:58:09Copy HTML Ralange, regarding better adjusted kids, I have experienced this personally when in the international sailing community, and understand it anecdotally from people who's parents were nudists, or allowed them to run around nude when kids.
On the flip side, I know many people who were very uncomfortable going nude, or even wearing thongs or small swimsuits, because of strict religious or social upbringing. This tends to affect not just their ability to go nude in public, but their ability to feel comfortable nude with others in private or discussing sex with their partners in anything other than a perfunctory way.
However this is mostly anecdotal evidence, for more empirical numbers look for documentation in the nudist forums. This issue comes up a lot when moralists get involved in trying to shut down nudist beaches or nudist camps in the US. There may also be some empirical studies done in support of some of the more relaxed regulations about nudity in Canada and Europe.
thong1066, Families setting up around you is a sign that they really don't care that you are wearing a thong, or the beach near you is the only bit of beach left, and they prefer the breach by you rather than find a different beach that day.
I find mothers with children often setup very close. Some because the mothers would like some adult conversation. Some did it specifically because I was wearing a thong. I have heard a number of reasons: These range from wanting to expose their kids to men in thongs so they would not grow up to be the jerks making fun of girls and guys in thongs, to thinking I am gay and so would not hit on them incessantly just because they sat near me.
Sometimes because they too wanted to shed another layer and wear a thong too.
Sometimes by young single mothers, and actually want to meet others, because without a mate most of their life is work, children, shopping, children and other mothers with children. In a strange way it is a bit like a man wearing a thong. On the beach you are saying I am a man who wears thongs, if you can deal with that you are welcome to setup by me. They are saying I am a single women with children, if you can deal with that talk to me, I am an adult too. If you had a puppy too, and liked children, you would have a new family by noon.
ithnongit is right, kids will look a few times at things they find unusual about people. Younger ones have no embarrassment in staring at a person missing a limb, with mottled skin, or something different they have not seen before. Later, when pre or early teen they are again fascinated with forbidden body parts, boobs, buts and bulges.
I have parents who live on my street and who seem to take extra care to make sure their kids know that a man in a thong is normal and friendly. They are the ones to shout hello as they go by with their kids, or get them to call me by my proper name, or encourage them to talk to me.
During the last couple of weeks I have been working on the trimaran, sanding and painting the deck. Because it is my backyard, my dock, and my boat, I have been wearing very small mesh g-strings, so as to get a good all over tan.
On several days one of my neighbors went by in their small boat, entertaining the kids, either towing them on a float or letting them troll for fish. Their boat is small, but not small enough to fit under the bridges at the South end where our islands connect to Las Olas Blvd. So if they go by they have to come back again. There is absolutely no need to come down past my house, because they live nearer to the North end where our canal opens out into the rest of the waterways.
If the dad did not want his girls, boys, or their friends to see a man in a g-string he would not call out to me and wave. Or having done so once would not do so every time he came by, making comments about the amount of work and how good it was now looking while painting,or keep coming by on the same day, and on successive days.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/22/2019 02:24:27Copy HTML My OH has often mentioned that I shouldn't wear X Y or Z in front of kids and I have said that they aren't bothered. In Crete last year I appeared from our apartment in a swim string and walked past the pool where a Swedish family were swimming (mother, father and two young boys). They all looked at me, more inquisitively than anything and I thought maybe they won't like it. Later that day we exchanged smiles and hello's etc. with no discomfort from anyone.
Personally I still think it best to be wearing something that is visibly swimwear.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/23/2019 03:43:51Copy HTML Seems like my gym has a change this year. A few years ago I got chastised for wearing a string bikini. Last year and this year I've been wearing the Rio back, Pumped-Up, Koala suit. I noticed that there aren't many kids and moms around this summer. My friend said that the gym got rid of "Family Swim". This was where a member could pay something like $10 and get their kids and neighbor kids in and swim in a couple of the lap swim lanes. So during the summer there are always a lot of kids around the pool. This summer I think I've seen 2 kids. What happened was that with the kids taking up 2 of the 5 available swim lanes during lunch the regular lap swimmers were being forced into fewer lanes. Many of them complained. They said that if the gym was to make $10 bucks off of a family and inconvenience the lap swimmers then they were going to take their $70 a month membership somewhere else. I guess after losing quite a few members they changed their minds. Today there was hardly anyone in the pool at lunch. I tucked my Rio suit into my crack and did laps like I was in a thong. One woman next to me struck up a conversation during a rest at the edge. Guess I didn't offend anyone.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/23/2019 01:56:08Copy HTML CASE 1 -- CHEEKY WOMEN'S SWIMWEAR CAUSES BAN ON THONGS
The message from Beached_Santa_Cruz had me thinking about similar stories. First, one local city run pool that has never (as far as I know) had any thonging rules is now turning women in thongs and extremely cheeky swimwear away. The same goes for men in thongs from what I hear.
According to the girl at the desk, they used to get two or three ladies in thongs a week and a guy maybe every week or too. This was considered to be not all that overwhelming, and not much of an issue in a place with a lot of other problems.
With cheeky swimwear and woman's thongs setting new sales records almost daily, the number of women in thongs and near thongs got to be almost 25% (but no more guys were wearing them, only a few more men in Speedos.)
The management was requested to find a way to eliminate the skimpiest swimwear from the pool. The new "thong ban" seems to be working, but many women and some of the teen/college aged people are complaining. Maybe some of these women will see how stupid anti-thong rules are and align themselves with the men who have been wanting swimwear choice freedom for years.
CASE 2 -- THE DOUBLE FLIP FLOP
This is about a beach on a totally private lake. They used to permit thongs on men and women. Then after a single complaint they made a rule change and said men could not wear thongs. The guys complained since women could still wear them, so they then changed the rules again to stop both sexes from wearing thongs.
Then as the cheeky swimwear started to get more popular, they backed off on rule enforcement, letting women again wear thongs and very cheeky swimsuits. Again there was a minority of men who complained because they were routinely kicked out. So the rules were changed again and all mentions of thongs were eliminated and no enforcement against thong wearing was carried out.
But others complained about all the thongers (the number of male thongers never changed that much) so the complaints this time seemed to be about women in thongs. So the rule changes were reversed again this time saying women's swimwear must cover their butt cracks (but saying using a lot more words and without use of colloquialisms.) They forgot about the few guys who showed up a few times each summer to enjoy the water. So this time the men got the thongs are okay message. Again, someone complained and men were finally included in the anti-thong rules.
Now don't get me wrong. I love seeing a guy in a thong, showing his buns off, but fair is fair and if one sex can wear thongs then both should be able to, and if one sex can not wear them, then both should be prohibited from wearing them. From what I have heard, there are several issues around this continued experimentation with the rules.
First, the ownership has changed twice in two years. Second the actual managers have been rotated in and out every few months, since nobody seems to be able to please the new owners. Lastly, the owners are trying to please everyone, so changes are made after only one or two comments about something. These changes often do not take into account what the majority of people want. There also is the tendency to go overboard and to at times let the feelings of one customer change things for everyone without thinking things through.
Too bad -- this is a nice place other than the constantly changing rules about swimwear. It is so nice that it is one of the few places I would probably go to even if it caused me to have to wear something that covers a lot more than a thong.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/25/2019 06:46:24Copy HTML First off, men seem to get treated a little harsher than women. Unfairly, of course.
Having said that, my fiancee' is cognizant towards children being around when she wears a thong or g-string. 90% of the time we frequent local public beaches. She always wears a thong but not g-strings. G-strings are reserved for when we vacation out of state like Miami, Caribbean, etc. On local beaches, it's never been an issue. Near where we live in NJ, thongs are becoming more common. Even then, she usually brings shorts or a cover-up bottom to put on if someone complains. And no one ever has.
What really is somewhat irritating, is when people vacation somewhere and expect others to conform how THEY feel they should. For example, if you bring your children to South Beach, Miami for vacation; do expect to see topless and thongs. It is allowed, accepted, and you should understand that before you go. Having said that, if you're traveling with children, maybe Sunny Isles or Aventura would be a better place to take them to the water? One trip to Miami, my fiancee' wore her smallest micro bottom which she had been excitedly waiting to go to Miami to wear. We got to the beach area around 17th which is very European and mostly adult. She was about to take her coverup off and stopped. I asked her what was wrong and she sighed and said "There are kids around..." My response was "So? It is allowed on this beach. It's not your fault for wearing your bikini. It's their fault for bringing their kids to this beach."
Same thing goes for foreign vacations. You see so many snippets online, mostly Americans, complaining about their "children" being "exposed" to topless/thongs/nudity when they go to St Martin, Mexico, Europe, etc. It really is not their place to say what is acceptable to them. Don't like it? Don't go. Just like SlimSuit said. Take your business elsewhere. Don't try to change it to suit your preference. In other words, don't go to the beach and complain about the sand.
As for the children themselves... I would venture to say that children under the age of 10 have no clue what is going on. In their mind, they probably think "Hmm...he/she isn't wearing clothes like mom/dad." There is no impression or influence. It's simply something peculiar that maybe to them is just sort of out-of-place. What the case usually ends up being, is a jealous wife who is mad that her husband or teenage son is staring. I've had this happen before with my fiancee'. It is understood and accepted that people will look. As for the teenage son? One can't be naive enough to think he doesn't see that and more on the internet and social media?
Now the only caveat is pushing the limits in areas where you shouldn't. I think everyone can surmise when it's time to make more careful choices with swimwear.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/25/2019 09:45:55Copy HTML I've had numerous instances of being in a thong or gstring and having parents set up near me. In those cases I don't pay them much attention. Likewise for beaches where minimal swimwear or nudity is expected.
On the flipside, I'll stick to something like a brief if I'm going to a busy family beach. Even that's pushing the envelope for some people. I go to the beach to relax, not to be harassed by overprotective parents.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/26/2019 03:46:11Copy HTML Visa0061 -- "Children under the age of 10 have no idea what is going on". I think his is true, and the younger the child the more likely they have no sense about any of the issues older people might declare which should guide people in a swimwear choice.
It has been a while, maybe five years since this last happened, but perhaps others have seen the same actions.
I have been to places where kids seem to have been conditioned and groomed to complain about thongers. Sometimes a parent even is so insecure they send a child to do their complaining for them! At other times, the parents call their kid(s) over to see if they have any issues with a thong (or whatever). It is like the kids are preconditioned to hate thongs, then a vote of everyone present should determine what an adult should wear on the beach!
I have had these kids come up and say "you shouldn't wear a swimsuit like that" or something similar and the parent is smiling in the background at what the kid says. I have then ask "what is wrong with my swimsuit?" The kid never knows, or simply repeats the same thing over and over (as if they can condition you like they were conditioned.)
I will not say there are no children of this age that can not formulate a valid conclusion, but I think it is rare. I think even older children and some adults only go by what they are told and don't think things through. In any event, if a child does have a strong opinion and offers it (about any subject) and is unable to answer even simple questions about their opinions, you can almost bet that they are only mimicking the opinions of others.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/30/2019 11:58:16Copy HTML I went to Alum Creek on Sunday July 28 and set up below volleyball courts. It was not long till the beach filled up fast. I had about 8 or 9 kids very near me. I stayed there for three hours. The conclusion I came too is I really can not stand being around kids as they fight and scream at each other. And then you have the parents screaming at their kids. It can drive you insane.
The beach should be relaxing, so I did move after three hours and moved up the beach. That did not work out all that great as i was laying down a family came up and set up beside me and they were Arab. At least the kids were better behaved.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/31/2019 02:40:25Copy HTML That is funny. Yes I too try to avoid kids....I have them at home and go alone to the sand to wind down and decompress. I know some people want to socialize when they go to the beach and sharing pleasantries among adults is nice but more often than not, I prefer the sound of the water and the breeze....

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:07/31/2019 05:10:55Copy HTML I have a female friend who brought her kids to last years Sunsplash beach brunch, because she wants to expose them to men in thongs so they consider it normal. Her kids had fun and she was planning to come again this year but did not make it.
I am continually amazed at the number of young mothers with kids who set up close to me if I am sitting on the beach. Maybe the need for adult company, maybe I am handsome (not), but maybe they do want their kids to grow up more well adjusted than some of the adults they know.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:08/01/2019 12:58:38Copy HTML I think maybe young moms simply realize that thonging men are probably not going to be obnoxious. If anything, the thonging man is a lot more like a woman (being harassed although in different ways, etc.) than a board-short wearing dude. If this is true, the thonging man probably has some things in common with the women -- something they may never see in other unattached men.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:08/01/2019 01:25:19Copy HTML Every kid is born without prejudice of any kind. It is a learned behaviour, typically from parents and the society they are raised in.
We here with children seem to acknowledge this and raise our kids with an open mind and acceptance of those who are different from ourselves. Unfortunately there are many who will never do this, so the issue will never disappear either.
I continue to be mindful of my surroundings when thonging, but also am of the opinion that what I am doing when wearing a thong is not going to end the world when I have deemed it acceptable to wear it at the present time and place that I do so. When asked to cover up (extremely rare occasion) I first ask why, otherwise you admit wearing a thong is wrong and you know it. I actually cannot remember being asked to cover up, just had a few negative comments which are only opinions anyway, not an enforcement of a rule or law.
I regularly wear thongs around friends and their children these days, and they judge me for the person I am, not the thong I wear.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:08/01/2019 02:33:12Copy HTML Thongmad -- I agree with you 100 %. Values and prejudices are not acquired but learned. A biggie I think is the teaching in schools and religions where the children are not not told the "why" but only that something is wrong because someone or something says it is wrong without any true logic being applied. Driving under the influence is "wrong" according to the law is an example of no explanation. Driving under the influence because you could hurt others or yourself, could create property damage, increase your insurance rate, and possibly loose driving privileges is an example with explanations, and each of these could be logically argued either way in some situations. But the statements you make about not admitting guilt by covering up (or leaving without knowing why (?)) is a valid point. The only exception to this is if I run into a real nut -- someone who is or close to being hostile. They have already decided you are guilty of something. They may be looking for a fight (verbal or even physical). They may have their concepts of what can be done about you legally all mixed up. But any extended dealings with this type person is not going to be positive for you. If you want to be a thong-martyr, then take them on. If you want to try and salvage you day, do as they request or leave quietly. They probably will think they "won" while you are the one who did not get upset and were able to enjoy your day more. And most any non-nut who sees you acting calmly and logically will only accept you (and perhaps your thongs and thongers in general) as being the better person. How can you tell when someone is really mad? They Seem Sweaty Or Fidgety. ... Their Palms Are Forming Fists. ... Their Brow Is Furrowed. ... Their Nostrils Are Flared. ... Their Breathing Is More Noticeable. ... They're Talking Louder And Faster. ... They Do Not Listen -- Only Dictate to You. ... They Make Things Up to Justify Their Actions, Then Believe They Are True. ... They Make Impossible Demands and Don't Understand What Makes Them Impossible. ... They Will Either Make a Big Deal About Confronting You In Front of Others (especially their friends) If They Really Think They Are Right or Feel They Might Need Reinforcements. ... They Will Only Confront You When You are Away from Most Other People (Especially their friends) When They are Not Sure They Will Win or are Embarrassed by the Situation. ... The reasons for the last two situations are sometimes hard to tell apart, but in either case, an attempt to move the confrontation to a different areas are refused and also refused are others getting involved. Mad people usually don't want to give up their home court advantage. This is why they complain in a familiar place, but back off in a strange area. Their argument is not location specific. They just unconsciously feel they have an advantage being on familiar ground. I have seen some of these actions on the beach from time to time -- usually not associated with thonging. They come up with smoking, boating, even letting kids bother others. Parents can get over-protective of children and "think" they are doing what is best, but sometimes their solutions are even more negative in the long run than the initial incident. |

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:08/01/2019 05:17:14Copy HTML One of the good reasons for NOT thonging at the margins, and for thonging in and among the beach crowd is the moderating effect of others.
There are two factors at play:
First, if the majority of the crowded accepts you then others tend to go along with the crowd.
Second, if there are mothers with children who don't care about your thong, and some redneck dad decides to make a fuss, it is very likely other people are going to intervene and tell the complainer they are out of line.
There are two very primitive human tribe social instincts at play, the tendency to go along with the hurd opinion, and the tendency to run to the defense of others. By integrating yourself into the middle of the normalized beach users, you become part of the group and not an outside lurker.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:08/02/2019 08:35:37Copy HTML I think JM_Runs is right on, per usual. I do tend to try to avoid kids because I want peace and quiet. However, I also try to be considerate and judge the crowd when I first arrive. If there's a bus load of kids from a day camp at one spot on the beach where I usually go, I'll find another spot. I generally setup where there's more females around, for the same reasons JM mentions -- guys looking to make trouble are less likely to do so in front of women. Women tend to hold their opinions to themselves, although not always (I just try to avoid the drunk ones).
More and more I try to find the regular beach goers and setup near them, now that I've frequented the same beach enough I can spot them. They tend to be more chill and are used to seeing people in a variety of suits.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:08/02/2019 09:13:22Copy HTML I prefer arriving in the early morning ~8am and just let the ones arriving after me decide whether they want to be near a guy in a g-string (or on occasion nude on SOBE). I haven't kept formal stats but I'd guestimate that 80% who arrive to near my general location end up staying while 20% will see me and find a place farther down the beach. I've found the ratios to be similar whether it was a couple, single, or family with kids. By arriving early I end up with tolerant people nearby for the day! |

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:04/27/2020 10:19:49Copy HTML When I go to a beach or a pool, it’s to relax and catch some sunshine. Though I could still enjoy the sun with children around, I try to avoid them in general because it doesn’t usually go well on the relaxation side. At the beach, at least there’s room to have your own space and I like to do what others have said here on this board by getting there early. If I’m already on the sand, buns up in my thong, and a family decides to set up near me, then that’s approval of my attire in my book. Now, at the pool, if there are kids when I arrive, I would usually not go in. I don’t know why...but when kids are playing in a pool it usually sounds like someone is getting murdered. If I’m already at the pool and kids arrive, I would wait to see how noisy they are and then decide to stay or leave.
None of my activity above mentions my thongs or g-string because I don’t change what I’m wearing because there are or there might be children. Sometimes kids stare or point but most often they don’t care at all.
I did hear a young boy once say to his parents, “Mom, why is that man wearing a girl’s bathing suit?” Clearly he had seen a thing before, just not on a man. His parents did say something along the line of, “because sometimes men want to wear those, too.”

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:04/30/2020 04:38:35Copy HTML Several years ago on Bird Island there was a family that would come down past the mailbox to set up for the day. Dad would come on ahead to let everyone know they would get nude and not to worry about what you had on or not. The wife and 4 daughters( ranging in age from @ 8 months to 12) came along pulling their beach cart. When they settled in their spot ( several times near me) everybody striped down except the baby who was still in diapers. The last time I saw them was after he had had back surgery and was having troubles pulling the cart up the loose sand. I offered to help, but he may have been embarrassed, because he was ex-Delta Force.

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:02/01/2021 11:12:14Copy HTML I have never found children to be a problem. Once in a while a curious 4 year old might ask why I am not wearing pants, but nothing more. It is not the children that are at all an issue, it is self self righteous over-controlling parents who make and issue out of it.
At one time I tended to avoid teens. Teens may titter or giggle, but mostly register everyone over 20 as old, and over 26 as really old, and older than that are parents and grandparents who are ancient. They are biologically tuned into their own age group: to such and extent that kids more than a year younger can be safely and compactly ignored, and anyone more than two years older (who is not a popstar or media figure) is just another older teen or adult to be avoided. They just don't care because you are too old to register on their radar as anything more than clutter. As I said, I once avoided groups of teens, for in the past, once in a while one of the boys would make a big show of being anti-homo and cause some verbal grief. However these days I find groups of teens to be more supportive of men in thongs than any other group. Todays teens did not grow up in your childhood. The world in which they live, and on which they base their values is quite a different pace. |

Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids) Date Posted:05/17/2022 01:01:24Copy HTML I like getting to the beach early in a gstring. That way others can set up around me based on their comfort level. If a family sets up next to me I don't change or pack up & leave. If they have an issue then it's their fault for setting up nearby. Haven't had an problem yet. There have been times when I am in the water and a family shows up. In those cases if I see a family arriving I'll start making my way out of the water so they can see what I'm wearing before they start setting up near my blanket. |
