Re:The Presence of Children vs. What To Wear? (kids)

Children are not a problem. 2 days ago I joined swimming pool and was in my swim thong with a class of 9-14 years olds around. no problems, I only caught one of youngest with wide open mouth. Same at beach. They are interested in sandcastles, playing and dipping, so can notice our outfit, maybe be surprised but nothing else. Old teenagers or young adults, in particular a herd of young males is more “dangerous” on this aspect. Some parents (not all) can disagree having a thong man around their kids. I don’t know, seems that a man in thong can cause a damage to children. So: I behave normally, I don’t cross the children camp flashing in g-string but I don’t run away from families. I like to get beach early and if someone else takes place close to me means that my presence is not a problem.

I also feel a bit uncomfortable wearing thongs around kids. That's not to say I don't do it, because I do... just feel slightly unconfortable unless I get some sort of positive action from their parents. For example, a few years back we were at Caspersen beach and a family started to drop their stuff about 15-20 feet away from our blanket. I got up to stretch and turned to make sure the parents knew I had a thong on. They saw I did and made no effort to move away, so I took this as they were okay with it. I'm also okay with being seen by kids at a family nudist resort or nude beach. I figure the parents brought them there so they know what the dress code is like.

One of my good friends I met at the beach. I was wearing a thong and she commented on how good I looked in a thong. She was at the beach. With her two young children. Since then we have met up at the beach and she has brought her children to the beach on several occasions. It has never been an issue. She often asks what color thong I’ll be wearing so she can match color with her bikini.

While acknowledging that worrying about kids also affects me (probably more from feared reactions from parents than anything else), I also have to point out that EVERY SINGLE KID in the world has a butt that looks pretty-much like any of ours. It's not like they will be seeing anything new or exotic. Just sayin'.

I personally never set up near families on the beach if they are there when we arrive out of respect and not wanting confrontation, but if I or we “my wife and I” are already set up and a family comes and sets up near us. We don’t leave, cover up, or change for them. Most of the time this is never been an issue, but a few times I have heard comments like “I can’t believe that they can just be walking around almost naked like that, or you should put some clothes on because there’s families at this beach” and my favorite response is “you could have gone somewhere else, we were here first”

The last couple of year people with kids who arrive after me often set up closer to me than I set up when I arrive. Kids have never cared much and now it seems their parents don't either. Course here (Pinellas Co FL) some moms wear thongs and I suppose this isn't the case everywhere.

The presence of children is not a problem in itself, otherwise I would never thong because children are everywhere. There are children on the beaches, at the swimming pools, etc. In France, I avoid certain categories of population but they are not children. However, sometimes, I don't wear my thong because there are too many kids and I don't feel comfortable. It may occurs in pools when the pool is mainly used by kids (little private pools in an holiday center, a hotel or the baby pool in a public swimming pool). Too many kids and too much promiscuity = not a good vibe. I swim 3 times a week at my local swimming pool with my swim thong. I thong only in the laps pool, because I go there to SWIM. I don't go to the leisure pool. In the laps pool, there are a few kids sometimes with their parents. Sometimes, this kids come in my lane with their parents. They don't mind. No issue. Parents are more careful that I don't unintentionally hit the children when I'm swimming because there is a huge speed gap (and a huge weight gap too).

I've had a daughter since I've been thonging and I don't flaunt it around her. She's seen my thongs in the laundry and hanging up to dry. She's seen me outside tanning in thongs. She's even commented that we need new lawn furniture so "you have have something comfortable when you're outside doing your tanning"....body acceptance is a big thing at our house and we don't criticize each others looks or clothing. Ever. As for kids at the beach, or in the backyard. Again, I don't flaunt it. At the beach I'm definitely more of a showoff but I'm usually at a beach with other people in thongs so it's not a big deal. Bodies are meant to be seen at the beach so as long as you're not being lewd or trying to draw attention, it's never been a problem.

I was out at the beach with the other day with a female friend. We were having a good time socializing and enjoying the sun. After a bit of time passed we had a woman (young 30’s) set up very near by right in front of us. If I wanted to go check out the water I had to pass by her. She had 4 children with her all under the age of 7. She obviously knew what I was wearing as she had to pass by me prior to setting her space up.She had no problem with my choice of swimwear. We had a very pleasant talk about her children, the beach and how long she had been coming out to this particular park, as we stood at the waters edge. She was quite friendly and stayed all day. her children were busy with playing in the water and sand. For everyone it was a nice relaxing day.

I find single mothers with young children are often very friendly and good company. They spend a lot of their day talking too and looking after children, so most apricate serendipitous non-threatening adult company. Adult conversation, even if it is only about the sunny day. Recognition from a man that they are still interesting, even with the kids in tow. A little adult validation, even if it is only someone taking the time to listen when they speak. Know your target audience: Smile to show you are not annoyed by her kids running around on the beach.

It was cloudy and cool this morning. I looked out around noon and there were only a few scattered people on the beach. I was not planning on mingling but doing some more weeding of the sea daffodil garden (Pancratium maritimum). So wore a green leopard slim cut thong that is a bit meshy. School is out. Today is Good Friday. So when the sun made the afternoon heat up the beach quickly got busy.

After an hour or so of quiet weeing in the back of the beds I walked to the sea to cool off. A friend called me over. Turns out her friend, the nice women in the neighbouring apartment was having a lunch party. Now the grandchildren would like to borrow a paddle board. So spent the next couple of hours or so with their mothers, the four kids ranging from 4 to 10, and one of their fathers. Later I brought down some Shandy for the various adults.
If you don't make and issue of it, and the adults don't make an issue of it, the kids don't care at all.

I agree that children are not an issue in general. There is an age where girls get giggly and stare and older boys are the segment of the population that may make remarks. Females seem far more adjusted than males-most of whom don’t understand why there are those who don’t like wearing pants in the water.

Interesting situation and topic. I'd love to hear discussion on this article. On one hand she's promoting thongs as socially and culturally acceptable. On the other it's an event for children and around children. There's no opportunity to swim at the event so that rules out a bikini. Lately transparent dresses at awards show have been fashionable by high profile female celebrities. This could be one hell of a discussion and I'd love to read everyone's take on it...

My 2 cents on Guestguest and Sailor posts. I wear thongs at beach or pool around children: I don't look for having families around and I prefer a place with adults only, but if happens to have children around, it's ok for me. Wearing thong at beach and doing my business is perfectly OK. This is a children even where needn't to show bottom and other skin. I have never seen a school teacher so dressed. This is a sexy outfit, good for other occasions.

Kids don't care at all, unless they have been taught to care. If kids are allowed to run naked they are not bothered by a bum, but if they have been taught that any visible bum, tit or nipple is a terrible sin then they will react accordingly. I wear a thong most of the time, even in my front yard or on the street. Kids who live on my street greet me by name and wave. 3 year olds, 6 year olds, 10 year olds and teens. On a recent windy day I was helping a mother and a couple of young ones fly a kite, today they were passing and shouted out in glee when they saw me. The only people who get bent out of shape about what others wear around kids are the ones who think seeing or reading causes their children to ask questions, or challenge lies they have been told. The same people who dress little girls in pink dresses when they would rather be in jeans. Who are trying to imprint stereotyping on children where none naturally exists. Racism, sexism and other us-v -them isms are taught, and are mostly harmful. When a 6 year old girl, who has no breasts, has to wear a bikini top or be considered sinful, we have the same policing of others - that once told women it was shameful to show their ankles or if people could see their belly button. The pearl-clutching over what people wear, and childish giggling over 'wardrobe mishaps' is just an extension of control over women. What, where and when they can wear something skimpy. People need to get on with their own short lives, not be controlling, mean or derogatory about others. Others who are braver and often better looking. If it is not hurting anyone, just get on with their own little lives and stop moralizing about what others should or should not be doing, wearing or thinking.

The problem is not the presence of the children. The problem is their parents. If you go to a nudist camp, there are children and no issue because parents don't teach modesty or body shaming to them... Well, things being what they are, I avoid places where there are too many children. I prefer safer and calmer places. However, I am not going to stop myself from thonging because there are some children.

I'm all for thonging as we all are here. This trend in transparent dresses has been common practice at award shows the past few years. I don't think transparent slacks will ever be a thing. A man showcasing his thong at an award show would break the internet....

I totally agree with JM when he says "Kids don't care at all, unless they have been taught to care". I tend not to hide when in a thong or g-string. I like to get out early to find an area where people will see me first so they can decide if they want to park their family next to me. More single women with kids tend to set up close. Maybe they think I am gay and not a threat or they want to strip down to a thong. (that has happened) Kids will look, giggle, point and ask their parents about me, then run off and play. Teenagers usually when in packs and they usually have a leader. If the leader is fine the others are also. Lately most are fine and want to be pc. Most think I have lots of confidence and give me a thumbs up or some other indication they approve. Most of my neighbors' kids have grown up seeing me in thong and g-strings and it has never been an issue. Most will call out my name and say hello and ask how I am doing no matter how little I am wearing. It is because of their parent's acceptance. A lot of my neighbors are new immigrants and minimal swimwear might be acceptable from where they are from, or they don't want to complain because they don't trust the police.

Today I went paddling with a couple of women. Before we left I asked them what color or style of thong to wear today. One said something New Year, sparkley. So donned a black thong with small reflective silver dots, that are on a black mesh. You don't see the mesh because of the reflection from all the tiny silver mirror disks. After doing a morning and lunch at the sandbar they went home and I headed up North to the coffee shop.
When I arrived a little girl was waving at me from behind the railings. I put on a light blue mesh tank top but no shorts before opening the gate from the dock to the coffee shop outdoor seating. As soon as I stepped through the little girl ran up to me, then reached up and grabbed my little finger to walk with me. She is three, very smart and totally charming. After introducing me to her parents and family, she then abandoned them to sit with me. Quite talkative.
I had to interrupt her so I could go inside to order coffee and food. When I returned she again come sat with me, bringing leaves and stones as presents. We then played with jenga blocks, making towers and trains. Neither she nor her parents, who it turned out were European, had any problem with my wearing thong or her kid adopting me like one would a puppy. Kids don't care. Not unless their parents, churches or peers taught them too.

I was with my partner and we were at Hotel Nikko in San Francisco recently. They have a pool and jacuzzi indoors but the jacuzzi is very very small (4 ppl max) We ended up not thonging there since it was all families and they were there all the time, seemingly. The jacuzzi was almost always full. You'd have to just invade and it felt a bit weird invading almost naked. I felt like if we had thonged we might've driven everyone off (even though we're young and in great shape)--which I guess would've been good for us, but bad for them, lol. I know it's SF but the whole place felt rather family oriented (I guess because it was a bunch of pre-teens and babies with their parents). What would you guys have done in this situation?

I had. Similar experience when I was at a hotel in California recently. One evening I went up to the pool with the idea of using the hot tub. I walked on to the pool deck and discovered several families with young children and dressed in extremely modest swimwear. I took a minute to listen to the conversations nd quickly determined that my minimal swimwear would be a problem with the parents. As a result I left the pool area and went back to my room. When I get the sense that the parent would have an issue with thongs I will leave rather than deal with the negativity.

Sometimes, atmosphere or context does NOT allow to thong freely and openly. Promiscuity is an important parameter. In a little place, where annoyed people can't stay away from you, it seems difficult to impose a thong. In a small pool, I won't have put my thong. I a vast pool, even it is crowded, I wear my thong because I think it's the people who are most annoyed who should move.

Thongs in the US have not been normalized, even among women. In public places there’s not much anyone can do but in a place that people are spending good money it makes sense that they feel more empowered to complain, especially about that weird guy. A pair of guys or a couple? Not nearly as much. Of course two guys, whether gay or not, could encounter a family with homophobic ideas that could ruin your day so caution should always be taken. As already pointed out, context matters. A large deck in plenty of people and space a single guy or couple thonging would hardly be noticeable but a quiet pool with just a family using the already small hot tub would feel encroached upon even by a regular couple. I wouldn’t do it, but wouldn’t like it. The irony is that the children could care less, but as a parent myself I understand the general concern we have when we see someone too close to our kids.

Yeah, I just felt it was off. And regardless of what we wanted to wear we would've had to hang in the pool and wait around for people to leave the jacuzzi. It was all a bit contrived, so we bailed. Oh well!

Joining a 4 places tub or jacuzzi while 2 people, maybe a couple, are already in, can be considered invasive, no matter our suit. Much better waiting our turn.

A couple of weeks ago I paddled up the river to a waterfront Coffee Shop. There is a fence round the outside tables to keep kids and dogs out of the river. As I arrived, from behind the fence, a small girl in a smart white dress waved, like kids do.

I was wearing just a g-string so after tying up the paddle board I put on a mesh cover-up. (Older picture, but same blue mesh top. >> https://flic.kr/p/QEbveR It does not hide much but provides a little cover.

When I passed through the gate from the seawall the small girl ran up to me and grabbed my little finger.  Turns out I have a new friend. A very bright 3 year old who introduced me to her parents and aunt. After a short chat I went inside to get my food and drink.

It was rather busy day.  All the tables and chairs taken. So after collecting my order I sat on one of the portable cloth covered foam cubes. The little girl went and got her own cube and dragged it over so she could sit by me and continue our talk.  After a while we switched to playing with the large Jenger blocks. Practicing counting as we laid the layers, 1,2,3 one way and the 4,5,6 the other.

Neither the girl or her parents were phased by my g-string, or if they were they did not show it.
A delightful afternoon, but eventually I had to get going again so as to be back by five thirty when it starts to get dark.

My wife and I don't have children, but if we did I would wear speedos and thongs around them from birth. If we had a girl, she would wear a normal girls bikini. If it were a boy, then he would have speedos. As they got older they would be used to me wearing what I do, and I would encourage them to not be ashamed of their bodies, and wear what they want. If that is a speedo, then fine, if it is a thong, then fine, if it is board shorts, then fine. Also, on vacation my wife and I go to a nude beach. I would bring my kids as well, and let them be naked. They would grow up going to nude beaches with us, so as they got older it would be normal for them.

When at home I am typically in just a thong. I have answered the door in a thong for neighbors, delivery people, and even people petitioning for office. I have stood on my front step in a thong while talking to a political candidate. So, if I had kids, they would grow up with me in thongs all the time, and most likely would wear them as well. I don't see it as sexual, but as body acceptance.

There are times in the privacy of our house or the bedroom with my wife that we make it sexual, but in public, the back yard, with friends, etc, it is not about sex. I have had pool parties where the guys are not allowed to wear anything more than a speedo. Some wear thongs. I typically am naked, and have told everyone that if they want to go naked they can. I have had a bunch of people over, all the guys in speedos, and me naked, and we are sitting around, grilling, in the pool, in and out of the house that way. If my friends show up and I am not naked, they are worried that something is wrong. I accept my body as is, and if I had kids I would raise them that way.
