Date Posted:01/09/2004 12:45:27Copy HTML I can't remember were else on the board people have talked about this (everywhere!) but here's a reaction from some beach-goers recently...
Over the New Year holiday here in Aus, I stayed with my family and in-laws at their holiday unit by the beach at Nelson Bay. The beach across the road is a family orientated beach with no surf as it does not face the open ocean. Heaps of families with kids and 99% holiday makers from Sydney. I had been taking the kids over every day for a few hours in the morning and later in the afternoon. I wore my Rio cut bikinis every day (I thought thongs were a no-go as it's a family beach, and I was with the in-laws etc, and it wasn't the place for it) I'd just about lived in my Rio's back at the unit, too. One afternoon, my father-in-law and I took my son over for a few hours, so my son could swim while he and I sunbaked and talked. The beach is narrow and pretty crowded that time of year, so we were about 10 meters from another family group. That group was a Mum, Dad, two kids and a mate of the Dad). When we arrived my father-in-law and I stripped off our shorts. My father-in-law was wearing a Speedo (he wears them religiously, smallish, and low) and I wore a Rio cut suit. We setup to layout out while my son went in the water. About two minutes later I could see the Dad in the water demonstrating to his mate, (both in dork-shorts), where the rear line of my swimmers went (they were in front of us in the water). I looked at Mum, who was staring pretty well at me wide eyed with a big grin on her face! I kept taking particular notice of her from behind my dark glasses. She was trying to sneak glances as often as possible! Despite Dad pointing out what I was wearing and trying the ridicule approach, she was fascinated, There was no doubt about that (I'm not trying to praise myself here!) Later, through the kids playing together, we struck up conversation with the trio,. She had plenty to say and smiles for me! There was no doubt she liked seeing me like that, despite the Dad and his mate (both overweight dork-short wearers) having a dig at me. It was a great beach trip! |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:01/09/2004 07:53:36Copy HTML Very interesting posting, Thongmad, I have come across a similar experience when I went my my wife and child for a holiday to Fiji, we were at a resort packed with families and children, therefore my thongs stayed inside the suitcase, but I wore the second best choice, my rio string bikinis I got some dirty looks from other men my age, but a lot of friendly smiles from women on their thirties and above. Lots of aussies and kiwis, a couple of aussie ladies from Sydney even started a chat with me, I'm a family man now but thought how easy would it have been to start new female friendships if I was single and by myself.. Coming back to your story, I wonder how would the reaction be of those two blokes at the beach, if they saw you wearing your first choice of swimwear instead of the rio. Don't really understand why the trend in Australia is becoming more like in the US, it's like if there was an under cover intention of the fashion gurus and media to undermine the Aussie icon (the Speedos) in favour of these horrible and revolting shorts. Not to mention what the opinion would be about thongs. As you are also a nudist beach friendly bloke, I would like to ask your opinion about the following scenario that hapenned to me the last couple of times I went to Sunnyside beach (legal nudist beach) here in Melbourne. I took my oldest son (3 y/o) with me to have a beach day to this nudist beach 50 km south of Melbourne. We had a great time, but he sometimes gets too excited and starts to scream loudly while playing with his buckets and toys in the water, I asked him to stop screaming loudly, however I noticed that maybe a few people were looking at me a bit crooked, don't know if because of my loud son, or maybe because they think that a nudist beach is an "adults only" beach, which in my opinion would be a disgraceful way of thinking, or better said a "perv" attitude towards nudism. I hope it's the loudness the problem, if I can not solve it I would probably think of going to a different beach, which would be sad because I really feel great and free there.... Do you reckon I should go somewhere else??

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:01/10/2004 02:48:51Copy HTML It's been a long time, but my recollection of Sunnyside is that it's nude in town, not a quiet paradise due to traffic noise.
Young Kids will be noisy occasionally, but it goes away soon if you just let them run or sleep if they're tired. Most adults are eventually parents, learn to put up with kids noise. I wouldn't worry about it. |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:01/11/2004 02:42:10Copy HTML Hi John Howard I take my kids to the nude beach all the time, and they love it! The beach we go to is Samurai Beach in Port Stephens. It's an open surf beach that you can drive vehicles on (we do), and is full of families most weekends. Noise is not really a problem there, as you would have to have a car stereo on flat-out to disturb people 30-40metres away! I think most people expect a bit of screaming from young kids at the beach, because that's just how kids are. I must admit that when I just take my kids by myself, I've gotten the feeling some folk see it as odd that a male is hanging out naked with young kids, but I think they get over it pretty quick when the kid calls you dad! Mind you, it's not other nudists that seem to be thinking that way! I've been to a couple of beaches with my son and had a thong on, and I let him get around naked, on a non-nudist but quiet beach, and like most other situations, the women seem to be the more tolerant of the species. I've even strusk up a few conversations, or they have initiated them, so I see your point there. I also notice it seems to be the thirty-something onwards that like what I'm wearing. Is it because their partners have lost that sort of interest, or they are just more relaxed with themselves and others? I was with my wife and kids on Sunday at a well populated beach, in the same rio, and the same sort of thing transpired. Female attention from someone around my age (32). Life seems to get a little easier as you get older, or you just don't care as much because your mates from school are no longer there as much to apply any pressure, and the ones around you that love you take you as you are. Small swimwear isn't THAT big of a deal really! Wow, a bit deep. Lighten up, eh? |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:01/14/2004 02:43:12Copy HTML The strangest - not weird, but more what I didn't expect - was last year in Thailand.
I went to one of the beaches which was half full. No comments from anyone even though I was tanning in a tiny thong on a beach chair or swimming in the ocean. Even families passing by didn't say a word. What was unusual was a family that for whatever reason set up about 40 meters from where I was, a husband and wife and their teenage daughter (15? 17?). I was in plain sight, neither hiding nor trying to draw attention to myself and all of them saw me at one point or another. The husband didn't take a second glance, the wife occasionally did take a look, but the girl at one point deliberately walked in front of me to give me a dirty look. I wasn't looking at her, she walked over. Go figure. The wife was around forty but slim and shapely. I think she enjoyed both seeing and being seen by me. Her, I did look at. O_- Pete Smith |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:01/15/2004 05:42:33Copy HTML Funny isn't it? They're the ones who have more of a problem than just what you're wearing, I think. Some peole will go to extroadinary lengths to voice their disapproval to you, and not just for thonging. Some folk should really assess their priorities, and realise even though they might not like something, is it something they need to interfere with, because it really doesn't matter that much, and their opinion might not really be wanted! |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:04/14/2025 11:39:38Copy HTML Had an interesting reaction recently.
On Miami Beach I'm wearing a baggie sling on my back and on my elbows. So I've got a bare waist, just a strap up the front and back.
This 30 something couple are walking along the beach and she in a thong bikini stops to look at something on the sand about 15 ft from me. The husband wearing some short trunks looks at me while stopped and I notice him looking me up and down noticing my lack of tanllines. As she begins to walk again he starts walking and starts pulling up/ folding up the legs of his trunks (of course white skin exposed) , doing this on one leg then the other. He walks out of sight like this. So he must have been envious of my exposure and my lineless tan! |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:05/14/2025 09:29:43Copy HTML Another interesting reaction by another beachgoer.
I'm on Ft Lauderdale beach in a Dore very low micro G string in the morning. I'm having a little trouble staying inside the small pouch, with some root showing sometimes.
A hot looking 30 something woman walks out and stops about 20 ft away even when there's few others around. She slips off her dress and ....yesss a small string side thong with a back triangle maybe 3 inches wide. She seemed to be watching me sometimes. So she turns over on her stomach and starts rolling and peeling down her suit with the rolled up triangle in her crack, unties her top and suns for a while. She wants to swim so ties up her top, unrolls her thong...comes back and rolls it up again. The second swim she sees me walking around in a micro G and just leaves hers rolled in her crack! |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:05/18/2025 09:03:27Copy HTML I was at the beach the other day. When I went to leave I pulled on a pair of short shorts and started walking back to my car. A few steps down the pathway I heard a group of young women saying with disappoint; “Look, he put on some shorts. Why did he put on shorts?” |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:05/19/2025 06:36:00Copy HTML I’m in Korea right now, and people here are pretty conservative. I might need to test the waters before I can try thonging in public. We have our own 'Karens' here, and they’re called Mrs. Kim. |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:05/30/2025 10:52:12Copy HTML I had the day off and spent the day with a Resortpass at the Sheraton Lake Buena Vista resort. There was hardly anyone at the pool as I guess everyone had checked out from the Memorial Day holiday. I took my shorts off and laid out for a while in a Joe Snyder thong but since there wasn't anyone there, I decided to go for it and lay out in my Bruno gstring. I had a great day laying out in my tiny gstring and taking a dip once in awhile to cool off. No one said anything, but it was funny I was getting ready to leave and there were 3 people on the other side of the pool. I got up to take my towels back to the towel stand and you could clearly overhear one of them saying Wow when I walked to the towel stand. It was kind of a rush to hear them say that and it wasn't bad but an approving comment. |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:06/08/2025 03:23:54Copy HTML I was at the beach near my holiday destination this afternoon. (south of France, Europe). About 10 meters next to me a guy in quare pants sat down and unfolded his parasol. After a bit of reading he stood up and walked in my direction just as I wanted to take a swim. He started talking to me in French, which I hardly speak. So I told him I don’t speak French and asked if he was speaking English. He didn’t speak English very good, but he said ‘your string (thong) is cool. This small comment made my day! |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:06/18/2025 12:22:19Copy HTML I was out at the beach the last two days. Yesterday I met a couple friends on the sand for the day. Today I was alone.
Yesterday there were many women wearing thong bikinis and cheeky bikinis. As a result I wasn’t the only one on the beach wearing a thong. My friends don’t care about my swimwear choice and will cut ally defend my choice when some intrusive individual tries to make a stink. At one point during the afternoon I noted a couple young women, Rey young set up near by. Soon enough they are pointing their phones in my direction. This is not uncommon. I am a dig of a unicorn being the only man wearing a thong at the beach.
Today I got to the beach early and set up with no one round me. As the day progressed I had a mother with four early teen and pre-teen children set up no more than ten feet to my right. Mind you, the rest of the beach is nearly empty at this point. Mom was the one that stopped the kids to set up close by. Ok, it’s a public beach, so be it. A little later I had a couple come walking by. She stopped her boyfriend and told him she wanted to set up here. He wasn’t going for it and wanted to move on, but she insisted. So they set up about fifteen feet to my left behind me. I’m lying on my stomach, buns up. She has a good view. Next thing i realize, she is standing behind me taking photos. Her boy looked none too pleased. For the day she kept making her way past me. I was getting the side eye from him. I didn’t care and kept to myself, reading my book. About an hour later I see another couple walking past. She stops directly behind me, pulling her man to a stop. He pulls back trying to move her on. She’s not going anywhere. They set up directly behind me. I see her smiling. He’s staring at her with a look of, “You’re really doing this” on his face. The only unfortunate thing about today was that there were no women wearing thong or cheeky bikinis on the beach. I was the lone thonger. |

Re:The Reactions You Get! Date Posted:09/15/2025 08:18:23Copy HTML I spent about six hours at Sunset Beach NC on Sunday and the weather was nice but cloud coverage was around most of the day. About 3:00 the sun came out and was very warm for the rest of the day. I decided to get some sun on my bunz and put my towel out on the sand. The tide was on the higher side, so anybody who was walking along the water were only about 20-25 feet to the people who were in their chairs, or laying on the beach like me. I was reading my book, bunz side up, for a while and not really paying attention and a lady probably 10 to 15 years older than myself came up and told me that “I have been coming to this beach for 30 years and you are the most beautiful person I have seen out here”. I told her thank you and that I’ve been coming out here for 10 years so she must’ve missed me on the days that I’ve been out there… When she told me she had a big smile on her face, and what looked like to be her daughter, who was still down by the water waiting for her, she had a big smile on her face too.
For the most part, I definitely think I give men in thongs and strings a good representative when out and about. I think I look pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I don’t get a whole lot of comments when I’m at the beach or on my SUP as I just don’t think many people are comfortable in telling you. Even when you’re talking to someone for five minutes or seeing them several times. It’s just like giving a specific compliment to a woman in a thong if you’re not wearing one. However, when you get a great compliment, like this woman gave me, it surely makes your day!
You can see a picture of the string that I was in, see my 2025 album for the September Sunset Beach. |
