That sounds great tobias5711!

On this side of the Atlantic I have a few things to overcome. I have mentioned them somewhere else. What I experience here compared to my experiences (and from what I hear) from the US, is that American people are generally less shy and it's a lot easier to talk to strangers. Striking up a conversation wearing something different really helps, giving you some kind of social approval. Walking around alone with no one talking to you makes you look more strange.

Another thing that is said to be a typical Swedish thing is the sentiment that you should fit in. People not fitting in are often frowned upon. Slowly things are changing, and we are a tolerant and openminded people in theory. At least we look upon our selves that way. We accept all sexual orientations for instance. But in reality when someone does something totally different, something that is considered weird, a hate storm can arise.
But I realise I sometimes should put the alleged open mindedness of people to the test :) Just to prove to myself that it wasn't so bad, nothing happened etc. And if I had the nerves like you or JM, where them head high as a missionary of diversity. I have done so on a few beaches, where I have the excuse of wanting a good tan, an excuse that doesn't work in the bathhouse.

Maybe we all face similar feelings being the only man around in a thong, but these are my thoughts about the obstacles I have to overcome in my cultural setting.

Quick update, Just returned fro LA Fitness. A guy told me it wasn't crowded in the mornings. Well the gym wasn't. But when I got into the pool area in my thong, a pool fitness class was being held. There were over 25 people in the pool and spa. I showered and went into spa, then joined the pool fitness class. Oh well, guess they enjoyed it as much as I did, I saw many smiles when they noticed me.

I have been wearing thongs to LA fitness for about a year to swim laps. This is usually on Sat afternoon. I do as well during the week at night when it’s not too busy. Never any issues. Not even second looks. Never have seen any other thong wearers. Tights in the gym, thong at the pool. Hopefully it will catch on.

Many of the "Corbin Sesamee" combo locks will all stop at 0 if rolled one way. Once they are all on 0 it is easy to count off the number by feel, if you use a low number with low numerical digits like 1100.

After locking my eye glasses in my locker at the gym and only having a towel. I went in search for a better lock that I didn't need glasses. Home Depot carries the Master Lock 1500iD for around $9. It has a sliding button that goes up, down, right and left. It is very easy to use as long as you remember the combination of movements. Also, you can change the factory set movements. https://www.masterlock.com/personal-use/product/1500iD

I am a very poor swimmer, I would love to take lessons just to get  decent stroke and then start swimming for exercise.  The gym I go to has a pool but I've never been in it,so have no idea what the standard swimwear is. If I had the confidence in my swimming ability I'd love to swim in just a thong/gstring but like others have said, since it's near home I'd be worried I'd see someone I know and embarrass me or my wife, if she found out!

I tend to go to pools and read the pool rules and if they don’t mention anything about swimwear I assume it’s ok to wear a thong if it’s a true thong swimsuit. I don’t really want to bring up if it’s ok to wear a thong to management as they might decide there that no it’s not ok depending on what they believe. I’d rather someone come up to me and tell me no and I would gladly switch over to a speedo. My gym pool doesn’t have a lifeguard so it’s just you and the rest of the swimmers. The pool rules on the door don’t mention anything about swimwear.. not even the appropriate swimwear required sentence. So far I have been wearing thongs for 2 years there. I’ll rotate between thongs and bikinis but lately it’s just been thongs. What I’ve experienced is the regulars don’t seem to care but they aren’t openly friendly either. I see them talking to other swimmers but never really striking up a convo with me. Not sure Why that is because I just mind my own business and don’t parade around or looking awkward. I sort of get the vibe that they will tolerate it but not necessarily like it and rather not talk to me. Ive even said hello or good morning walking past them in my thong going to the pool and I’ll get a non response or just look at me. Haha

As blackthong23, i never ask if thongs are authorized but i read the pool rules. Usually, if it is a conservative and true swimwear thong, it is OK. It is OK, because it is not possible to apply a double standard : if thongs are forbidden for men, they have to fordid them for women. Inversely, if they accept thongs for women, they have to accept them for men. As the male lifeguards like to see young women in thongs, they have to accept all thongs (older women and a few guys like me). Some of the male lifeguard think also that a man in a thong can encourage some shy women to wear a thong becaus they will think "if even a man can wear a thong, i can wear one too". For the female lifeguards, they see tens women in thongs each day during summer. So, when exceptionally it is a guy in thongs, they are happy because it's fairness. And, sincerely, lifeguards have a lot of problems with incivility, aggressiveness and security. Thongs, if they are conservative, are not their main problems. The pool rules are not always specific about thongs. When there is no specific rules, the sames rules apply all the time, for the both gender : conservative thongs are OK. Provocative thongs are forbidden.

Ditched my Desmitt moderate thong which i usually wear without any fanfare. Decided to put on my snakeskin python brown thong print. Thong was unlike the normal nylon spandex polyester fabric but wet pleather skin type of nylon. More of a style for a costume then swimming. Was curious how it would hold up in whirlpool pool, dry and wet sauna. I have never gotten so many turned heads while thonging in the gym spa.

I have now worn it for three visits to the pool with no issues. Fits like a snake skin, no pun intended or maybe a little. The brown boa or python print colour slightly matches my skin tone. This gave effect that I might have looked naked through the water of the pool or whirlpool. Many passersby outside the pool took double take upon me, when seeing in through the bay windows of the pool, as they were coming and going to the gym change rooms.

The fit is amazing, with no drawstring nor lining. The print itself kept any sheer when wet possibilities to zero. Can't say that with normal nylon polyester fabrics swimsuits needing a lining. Although the snakeskin print thong was meant for underwear it passed every test in the pool and whirlpool. The fabric is strong, no stretching or fading I could see. Now wish I bought other snakeskin style colours other then the brown. This might become my go to thong at the gym pool spa.

Had group of young newbie girls checking me out when I was in the gym, when I had my leggings on. Later when they were dressed and leaving they saw me through the pool windows when I was at the whirlpool. They stopped to look. I was showing slight hip and whale tail purposely for there entertainment. When I turned my head towards them they all ran off. Had chuckle seeing them scatter when busted.

Best part was a female gym member who religiously works out at the same as me in the gym. She once told me she likes my body. I often see her observing me. I enjoy rattling her cage. Whenever I see her finishing the workouts I climb out of the pool onto the deck to shower off, which is in view of people walking by outside. I think she will be giving me more shy smiles of hello after seeing me in the snakeskin print thong.

Desmitt’s are my go to conservative swim thong but the last couple swims I tried an experiment to see if there are any different reactions to me wearing a slightly smaller thong.

I have a JS black thong that I bought a while ago but ordered it one size too small accidentally. It still fits pretty good but pretty small for conservative lap swimming in my opinion. I use it for running or an occasional tanning day but had not tried it at the pool.
I decided to try the JS thong at the pool.  The first day I wore it I got to the pool and walked along the deck to go get lap float thing at the end of the pool. The side straps and back are very tiny compared to what others are wearing. A couple guys swimming their laps looked on their break but didn’t stare. I then started my swim and had no issues or stares at all. This thong fits so snug and never moved on me, so I almost forgot I was wearing it. The JS thong was great for swimming.
Later a couple ladies got out of the pool and I noticed one of them look at my backside as I was slimming a lap toward them. She motioned to her friend with her hand to her hip, I think she was mimicking string or tiny sides on my suit. She said something real quick to her friend, who looked over but they kept drying off and didn’t really do anything else.

Over all I think the smaller JS thong wasn’t that much of a difference, but I’m not gonna push it with gstrings or anything like that.

@thedruid and everyone else interested in the Swedish stance in the gym pools/bathhouses: I sent similar e-mails to a few different bathhouses in Sweden; a couple in Stockholm, one i Skövde, and one in Jönköping where I live. They all have the same policy: thongs are ok on both men and women. The rules are the same everywhere: the thong must cover the genitals and be ment for swimming. Cotton underwear releases fibers that clog the filters. They all responded briefly but in a nice tone. I wrote to a spa with a couple of pools and jacuzzis I'm interested in visiting for a weekend. They were totally fine with thongs, and the same thing here: as long as they are actual swimwear. A couple of the bathhouses and spas have not yet answered. But since all is fine, it comes down to me if I can live with the stares :) And I know my GF would feel uncomfortable with me prancing around in a thong, so I'll save my thonging to when I'm alone.

Tobais and Poimbeach, you said that you went to LA Fitness with no issues. That's terrific! I assume then you live in SoCal or LA area then? I live in OC and go to beach and pool a lot in thong. Good to hear about your experiences at the gym. I have a membership at 24 Hour Fitness which I really do not use too much. But I wonder how thong swimming would be there.

32189, I live outside Atlanta, Georgia. The LaFitness I go to is behind Sugarloaf Mills Mall in Duluth, Ga. The gym is technically in Lawrenceville. I have gone daily since the first of the year when my silver sneakers membership too affect. I wore a black Desmit thong with the liner removed until yesterday. I had no issues at all. A few stares, but nothing negative. Yesterday and today I wore my Skinzwear Stuffit Pouch Thong in Black M77U-6407, which is much smaller, but people have gotten used to me wearing a thong and nobody really noticed. I saw a neighbor I have known for over 12 years. He has lived in subdivision 5 years longer. We chatted in the sauna and the locker room for over 30 minutes. I was in my stuffit thong. It did not phase him since in the summer he usually sees me in a even smaller g-string in my front yard and on my front porch. He always slows down to say hello. He asked about my next door neighbors' reaction to me in so little. I told him how only one seemed to mind and he called the police, but the police told me I was totally legal and could do nothing unless, I was being lewd, totally nude or masturbating in public. I wear the thong in the pool, sauna and hot spa and in locker room. Once I shower however, I walk around locker room nude and when drying my hair and cooling off before getting dressed. I get some looks, but other guys also go nude from showers, so not a real issue. Once I called and found out thongs were not a problem, I have worn one every day. The first time I was a little nervous, since I would be in such close quarters with others, and not like at the lake or beach, where people can set up else where. For the last week, it doesn't even cross my mind to walk around the pool area where people in gym can see me in my thong. You have to shower before entering pool or spa and the showers are almost beside the glass wall over looking the front desk and gym. I know other people see me besides the ones in the pool area, but I have been wearing thongs for over 30 years in the public and am very comfortable with others seeing me in one. One of the reasons I started wearing thongs in public was to get out of my comfort zone and get over shyness. I started talking to others while in a thong and now I am very comfortable starting conversations with others while in a thong. Most people will relax and talk once they see you as a normal person who just chooses to wear something a little less conservative.

Because of the pandemic, our local YMCAs have started limiting the number of people in the pool area at one time and also closed the dressing rooms. You are now expected to wear your swimsuit under your street cloths and just slip your street cloths off and back on again when you are ready to leave (they have increased the number of towels available thank goodness.) Randy and I have both spent a lot of the time at indoor pools over the last few years in our thongs (with me sometimes topfree) and each year seem to get less and less resistance to what we are wearing from the other pool users and the management, but we still were getting some "you can't wear that" and "next time you need to cover up better" type comments from the management. Since the pandemic we have been wearing our thongs exclusively at all indoor pools. I also have gone topfree at motel pools, but with one exception not to the "Y". We wear our thongs at the "Y", in motels, and everywhere. We even wore thongs at a few commercial hot springs out West that had posted "No thong" rules. In the past some of these places would have at least given us a warning about our swimwear being too extreme, but since these places reopened after being closed last spring by the state, nobody in an authority position has complained, and besides the normal comments about our thongs (cute thong, etc.) we have been getting a lot of "your swimwear makes sense since nobody wants to put their street cloths on over a wets swimsuit." Even places that have "no thong" rules make no attempts to enforce the rules. Maybe when the pandemic is over, and the locker rooms re open people will still accept thongs like they are now.

I have worn the Speedo 1" bikini lap swimming but nothing smaller. Strangely conservative here. Rarely a woman in a two piece. Some of the younger women will wear a narrower, high cut one piece that becomes basically a thong but that is about it. I have yet to find a bikini with thinner material and/or a bigger pouch with a draw string that works for lap swimming. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

@cdnsolarguy I've worn a "string bikini" from the brand Addicted to lap swim quite a few times. I put it in quotes because it's not a true "string", rather it's a bit wider, but works really well for lap swimming. They're a tad spendy, but I've really enjoyed them. For Bikini recommendations with a string tie see my post #173 under AliExpress for products from China I Ordered another one of the half back bikinis in the blue lightning effect print and it’s great as well. One note is that the thong version does not have a string tie. I ordered one of those and it’s a great cut as well but it does not have a string time which is fine with me.

My home gym has had a sign posted on the locker room door as you exit to the pool that says "wear appropriate swim wear". It doesn't mention specifics or thongs but I thought it was funny that its posted. I swim 2-3 times a week and always in a thong. Never had one person say anything and staff has seen me. I wondered if it were in reference to me but figured I would keep on as usual until someone actually says something. As far as I am concerned as conservative desmiit thong is plenty appropriate. It really has quite full coverage of everything important.

Warm weather should be bringing out more thongs at the gym. We're supposed to be in the high 70's by Sunday. I was at the gym about 2 weeks ago and it was a warm afternoon. Besides me being in a thong there were 3 women in thongs and one woman in a extremely cheeky one piece. Two of the women in thongs had tops that really didn't cover much and one of them had on a thong that was held on by only what looked like colored twine. So, I think we're in for a good summer of butt baring suits at the gym.

Re:Thong at the gym pool

AnonUser30, I'm also curious if your gym allows women to wear thongs. I asked LA Fitness before I went the first time if I could wear thongs in the pool. I was put on hold, after 5 minutes the young woman told me thong swimsuits were fine. I wore one for 3 months every time I went to swim in the gym pool and to use the hot tub. Then one day a karen complained and the manager told me I couldn't wear a thong. I emphasized I was told I could wear one before I joined.

When I wrote corporate office they told me it did not allow thongs, but several people told me they could at their local LA Fitness. I guess it depends on where you live. But, if a woman can wear one, then a guy should also be allowed to wear one.

I brought a Aussiebum small light blue speedo type suit and asked the manager if it would be ok.  The manager said it was fine. After a month of wearing it the chemicals in the hot tub and pool has made it almost see through even though it is lined in the front.  It is almost more revealing than when I wore the thongs. lol  I would still prefer to swim in a thong.

I agree with Slimsuit. If you see a woman wearing a thong, be a Ken, and complain. But don't play the "if women can wear them, why can't I?" card immediately. When after a while of management allowing women to wear thongs, with occasional complaints from you,?just start wearing yours again. If management then says anything, then hit them with a discrimination complaint. After all, they deem it perfectly acceptable for one sex to wear them, and not the other. If they return with the argument that women need to wear tops, your response should be why?

Complaining or filing a complaint when you see a thong is a good way to keep thongs banned. You might win your battle, by pointing out the rule is not applied fairly, but you will have lost the war. Nobody gets to wear a thong. Then other pools facing the same issue follow suit. I suggest whenever you see a women in a cheeky or thong swimsuit you smile. Give them the occasional thumbs up. Show your support. - The result may be that they wear cheeky suits or thongs more often. Hopefully empowers other women. It is likely a women will fight this battle for you. Support them, don't be a Karne and complain

@Martylouie You wrote : "If they return with the argument that women need to wear tops, your response should be why?" In France the highest court of justice has indicated that discriminating rules about tops for women were the only discriminating rules legal due to physical gender differences. Topless is legal on public beaches and is not considerated nudity. Pool management can legally force women to wear a top in their pool. During my 30 years of thonging, I have experienced 'double standard" several times but it was only social pressure (insults, sneers, etc.), but I had never experienced a gender discrimination by "authority" until recently. I decided to not complain. I am waiting summer, when there a lot of women with thongs, to wear my thong again. So it will be easier to point the gender discrimination (which is a serious offense here. Fine may be high if you can prove it). As I was recently

Re:Thong at the gym pool

I've learned the hard way that complaining and saying it's discrimination doesn't work. I've posted this before that when the pool was under different management the rule was "only wear what is gender appropriate". They are a private company and can set their own rules. I preferred to swim and not get kicked out of the gym. The current management bought the gym during COVID. When management switched more women started wearing thongs so I did too. During the winter months it's rare to see someone other than me in a thong. Now that it's starting to warm up here in California on sunny days there's usually at least one woman in a thong and often several. I no longer feel like I'm the only one and so far no one has said anything to me about my thong. The owner, who often does laps the same time as me, as well as all of the staff have seen me in my thongs.

Discrimination policies for the pool is unfair. Suspicious paranoia often a contributing factor towards male thonger motives. Often make thonger being treated as outcast unfairly judged.

Observing two older married females  I sometimes get glance from these two, depending on the thong I was wearing. Often they appear to ignore me entirely.  I mistakenly saw this as a sign being rejected because of my thong swimwear.
However, I recently got to know one of females outside the pool. Helping her out with something. She was very chatty and easy to talk with. Later at the pool one of them greeted me and introduced me to her friend. They seem happy to chat with me. No conversation about my thong. The only difference was sneaking glance at my thong before we say our farewell from the pool deck. The two women now happy to greet me.

We had very warm weather on Sunday, mid 80's. I think if the gym owner decides to ban thongs at the pool she's going to have a lot of people disappointed. On Sunday afternoon there were 10 women in thongs on lounges around the pool. On Monday there were at least 6. Women doing laps had on full butt coverage but the sun worshipers all had on thongs.

I used to go to a gym that had a seasonal outdoor pool. The gym was in an apartment complex, so the residents also had access to the pool. Since it was a shared pool, there were a lot of families and young couples using it. Fortunately, I never got any negative comments about my swimwear. I would always wear a thong to the pool, lounging and doing laps in it. One time, I got approached by a resident of the apartment complex. He had seen me doing laps in the pool and wondered if I swam professionally. Then, he asked me if I could teach him how to swim. I was happy to help him in a thong swimsuit. I am in a new location and looking for a gym with an outdoor pool. Hopefully, I can find one that is thong-friendly.

I have been going to LA Fitness for 13 years or so. For the last 2 or 3 years I have worn thongs to the inside pool. The other day the manager asked if I would wear something more appropriate. I don’t know if that means a full brief or a thong with more coverage. I guess I will start with a brief then go to a cheeky version but not quite a thong. A lot of guys go in the hot tub and pool in their underwear. They seem to be ok with that but that seems gross since there is more material to collect junk if you know what I mean. A thong and a shower is probably the cleanest you could wear to a pool. I guess they don’t like butt cheeks showing but there is no dress code.

@Poimbeach We have the same problem at our pool with guys in their underwear. I've got a few pairs of the men's Puma boxer briefs that everyone buys from Costco (I don't wear mine in instead of shorts or a swimsuit). Guys come out and use the cold plunge and hot tub in their Puma boxer briefs. God only knows how long they've been wearing them. We have one guy who does laps for 30 minutes in them. I've heard comments from women as to why is it OK for guys to wear their underwear in the pool/hot tub/cold plunge but they can't wear their panties? They are being sarcastic and say that it grosses them out.

Seems to me the most sanitary solution is for people to shower first and then swim naked. If not naked then in a freshly washed lycra swimsuit, one not made of cotton. I suspect there is some data, evidence or guidence out there on the internet that says so. You might want to find that and have someone give it to the pool manager.

In this time of equity and inclusion that would amount to discrimination." First of all, I can see where my statement was short, terse, and indeed may result in backfiring. In reality, I am a big fan of the old saying "you attract more bees with a spoonful of honey than a barrel full of vinegar". With regard to this discussion, tact, diplomacy, discretion and connections you've made, go a long way toward success versus getting an "attitude" and being aggressive. Regarding building connections: Whether I'm going to the gym, grocery store, pharmacy, gas station, or wherever, I always try to be cheerful, give a greeting, and if time allows say something like "how's it going?'. Instead of just another face passing through, you're that "nice guy" that is pleasant and maybe makes their job a little more enjoyable or less boring even if for just a few seconds. They may not even know your name, but they'll remember your face and your positive attitude. Using these connections and additional casual conversation, you can find out who is "better connected" and knows what's going on and can get you useful information. Typically a full-time employee is going to be better connected and know more than a part-time or summer break teenager. No offense to part-timers or teenagers (I've done my share of work as a teenager), it's just a logistical fact that, generally, full-time employees are going to know more than part-time or short-time employees. Whether the full-time employee works at the front desk, is a life guard, or whatever, if there is a thong ban you could ask them something like "what prompted this thong ban that I've heard about..." and get information before you talk to management or someone in power about the thong ban. After gathering intelligence you can then approach management or the decision-maker with a non-confrontational approach like "Hey, I was disappointed to find out thongs are now banned given how comfortable they are to swim laps in; what prompted the change?" You could follow up with other questions like "will the ban apply to sunbathers out on the deck?" or some such questions. The goal is to build a dialogue and not be confrontational. Do a soft-sell and not "come out swinging". Due to societal biases, the Average Straight Male is at a distinct disadvantage versus a woman with regard to this sort of a situation. Asses what the reaction is like and then you can decide how fruitful further discussion or even objection will be received.

Slimsuit try in asking yes questions, Rather the no questions.
You get better results reversing way you communicate.

People feel safe and secure when they say no.
Approach them by asking a question to which the answer is no. “Is it bad time to talk?”..
People want to stay positive so they give you “ah no it’s not a bad time”.

I got back to the gym pool yesterday after a 3 week hiatus. I was talking to a close friend of mine in the hot tub after my laps. We were the only two in the tub. She's an attractive Brazilian in her 60's who wears a bottom that barely covers her butt crack. She was saying that I was the topic of a discussion in the hot tub a week ago.

Seems the guy that was wearing his boxer briefs in the hot tub after working out in them was reported to the management again. They were talking about him and how unsanitary it is when an older woman chimes in that at least he has more covered than the guy who swims in a string bikini. My friend said to her, "Are you talking about Bob who does laps in a thong?".

The older woman said yes in the string suit. My friend says to her at least it's a clean suit. The older woman says that men should not be wearing bikinis at the gym pool. Now someone else says, "Even Speedo swimsuits?". The older woman says "Any type of bikini shouldn't be allowed!".

One of the guys tells her that would be hard to enforce since about 25% of the men wear Speedo bikinis to swim laps. My friend tells the older woman that she sees a lot of women at the pool in a lot less coverage than what I wear and if it's OK for women to wear a string bikini or a thong, men should be allowed too.

The older woman says that only women should be wearing bikinis and that men should only be wearing longer shorts. My friend said that everyone else in the hot tub took her up and said that if they allow women to wear skimpy suits then guys should be allowed to.

Yesterday at the gym pool I was on a lounge after swimming laps for 45 minutes. I was wearing a white string side thong. It was about 4 in the afternoon. A couple of women come down the stairs into the pool area. They walk past me and proceed to set their things down and put their towels on the lounge. One of the women is on the heavy side. She's got on a conservative black bikini bottom that covers her cheeks. I see her looking at me and then she turns to her friend and says "I'll be right back.". In a couple of minutes she is back wearing a small black thong. I guess she thought if there's a guy wearing a thong here why can't I? I hope I was the inspiration for her to go put her thong on.

Great stories.  I started to swim again and a few times I wore my thong.  I haven't had anyone say anything to me.  I work out at a LA Fitness in Florida, so they have 3 indoor lanes.  I have had people walk past me when I'm kick boarding to get into the jacuzzi.  When I got out of the pool I did a ledge pushup and got out and walked to my back pack to get my towel in my thong. I looked back to see if anyone was looking, one dude was.  I shrugged it off and head towards the locker room.  Felt good to get back into swimming and wearing a thong to do laps.  We should have all been wearing thongs when I was a swimmer in High School.

The gym I go to has two outdoor pools, a poolside bar, and a garden. There are at least 100 loungers in this outdoor spot, and people can sunbathe around the two pools or on the grass. There is at least one thonger every time I go there, so I am usually not the only one in a thong. Because of this outdoor space, the gym sometimes hosts outdoor events. Last week, there was a private pool party with a DJ, and attendees were able to hang out in their swimsuits. Since August is Pride Month here, the gym is also throwing a Pride pool party. A day pass is $30, but a monthly gym membership is only $60. If you are in the Montreal area, check out Club Lacité. https://www.clublacitegym.com/-dcouvrir-le-club#exterieur
