If this is your take, I'll gladly gatekeep masculinity.... this entire thread doesn't belong and it's garbage. Crying betas frolicking around in their dresses talking about how manly they are.....I don't buy it.... out of all the places on the internet why here? Go to a cross dressing board where all the sissies can share pantihose ideas....

I don’t have any ill will towards the skirt crew here, but I do think this crew is lacking a little self awareness about how unrelated cross dressing is in the minds of most of this forum. I do think a cross dressing forum or reddit group would be a better place for this thread. Most of us just want to wear a thong without being bothered. It doesn’t mean we also want to continuously pess limits like some of the exhibitionists that pass through or engage in exploration of gender norms, as seems the theme here. If you are just wanting to wear a thong and not make something more out of it, associating wearing a thong with femininity or otherwise relating it to anything else is exactly what you don’t want. Most are here probably because of the insecurity that when others see them that they will also think other things about them. This thread just reinforces an association we don’t necessarily want or think should be there by default. Its the same as a male skirt wearer not wanting the public to assume they are also into bondage or sexual humiliation, then having to deal with the skirt wearers that do want that.

+1 for GuestGuest and for wearsthongs, all the rest I already said previously. A thong is not inherently feminine or masculine. Its perceived gender expression depends on a symbiosis of factors: the design details of the thong, the characteristics of the buttocks it accentuates, and crucially, the wearer's body language and movement. For instance, if you sway your hips up and down while walking, creating a pronounced hip movement, THAT IS FEMININE. It's this combination of the garment, physique, and motion that ultimately conveys a feminine or masculine impression." If there were no crossdressers, many problems related to wearing thongs would also not exist.

EDIT: PS. And if I'm not mistaken, the subconscious desire of most members of this forum is actually to distance themselves from the image that we are somehow in league with crossdressers. We are not, and quite a lot of internal insecurity is related specifically to this factor - that we might be associated with various groups to which we don't feel we belong and don't wish to belong.

I find it fascinating how triggering this thread is. I've already expressed my views well enough, but I'd just like to remind people that wearing a skirt does not mean you are cross dressing. Trying to pass as a woman using your outfit, makeup, wigs...etc. would be cross dressing. Including one feminine article of clothing in an otherwise masculine presentation is not cross dressing. I really don't have a stake in whether this thread continues to exist, but I find intellectually interesting how much angst it's causing. It feels like it should be self evident to me that baring your ass on the beach is far more provocative than wearing a skirt, yet for many the inverse is true. @GuestGuest, I hope you realize a substantial number of people would put you in the sissy beta category for wanting to "frolic" on the beach in a thong.

Out in the world sure.... I'll laugh at all the sissy skirts to myself sure.... not here man, here in sacred space where we discuss the virtues of the man thong..... not a chance... I'm a truthsayer with a bull$hit detector and no pro skirt argument and it's relation to thong wearing makes complete sense.... great arguments but weak... this thread is the "armpit" stain to this board....

If you don't like board-shorts, don't wear them. If you don't like thongs don't wear them. If you don't like leggings don't wear them. If you don't like skirts don't wear them. If you don't like gay marriage don't marry a gay. I am not gay but I don't go round telling gay people they are wrong. I don't stand on the street telling gays they are going to hell, or calling other Americans libtards. There was a time when people thought men with long hear or earrings were gay or cross-dressing. Where I grew up Priests wore cassocks, as did choir-boys like me. Scot's men wore kilts. On black and white TV Liberace costumes still dazzled. We laughed at Dame Edna, and rocked out to David Bowie. Robert Plant, lead singer of the hard rock band Led Zeppelin, would wear a women's blouse on stage, for every show. Superstar rock band Queen did a whole rock video in drag, but was banned in the USA. I am sure some of our parents generation were apoplectic at the 'cross-dressing'. In the UK there were many skits on TV with men playing women, and of course we have a tradition of children's pantomime shows where the lead women is always played by a man. But being English we laughed and got on with their lives. In the USA slavery, color and gender rolls were far more defined, both legally and by social norms and the media of the day. While there was a time when the rich in the USA gave generously to schools, libraries and museums - it seams of late that when they are not buying media companies so they can set the agenda, they are mostly funding churches and divisive politicians. Outrage and hate seem the currency of the day, be it over paper straws or penguins in children's books. It was not very long ago that in some places black folk could not votes and had to leave town before sunset. When women were not allowed to open a bank account without a man co-signing, or wear pants (trousers) in public. In the USA Mary Tyler Moore was the first woman to wear pants in a US sitcom. Advertisers were so mad, writers limited her to "one pants scene per episode." We have come along way. For example no longer lobotomizing difficult women. But as many men have discovered, not everyone likes to see a man wearing a thong. Maybe they associate thongs and bras with women, and for some deep sexual reason feel personally affronted when they realize the wearer is a man. This prejudice seems stronger in the USA and other machismo societies, where gender rolls are more strictly policed. I grew-up in Europe and did not live in the USA until the early 1980's. Back then many Americans were very homophobic, so riding a bicycle around town in a speedo or wearing a thong on the beach made read-necks see red. Times have changed. Gay men are more accepted. Gay women are coming out of the woodwork. I am not gay but I smile when I see a gay couple holding hands when walking down the street. I am glad they feel safe to do that in my town. Similarly I smile when I see a man brave enough to drop his shorts and wear a thong, especially if I was the thong wearer who set an example and gave him the courage. But even I have prejudices: For example I find male and female nudity to be fine, but don't like men who use nude beaches or thonging as an excuse for sexual exhibitionism and dick-waving. Don't give thongers a bad name by wearing large mesh or totally transparent thongs. The news media is not going to differentiate but just report "A man wearing a thong was arrested for public indecency." Which then makes people think it is against the law for men to wear thongs. We are post Mary Tyler Moore. For the most part. n the USA most people are no longer uncomfortable with women wearing men's cloths. Although there are still some men wigged out by butch gay women in overalls or a smart suit. We still see neanderthals get mad when a women athlete 'looks too male'. I suspect feeling uncomfortable with women wearing men's cloths, or looking too manly, or men wearing skirts, is partly latent homophobia - and partly some innate animal sexual confusion about sexual pray. It may be triggering a deeper dinosaur part if the brain. Many years ago there was a book called "Dinosaur Brains: Dealing with All Those Impossible People at Work" by Al Bernstein. I bought it thinking it would teach me magic skills for dealing with difficult people at work. What it taught me was it was not them, but me, that needed to change. They were doing things that directly registered deep in the dinosaur part of my brain without being processed in the frontal cortex. Directly triggering feelings of irritation and anger. I have since come to realize this not only happens with dominance displays at work but with sexual signals too. Like smells and sounds, they go directly to the dinosaur part of our brain and instantly trigger reaction and emotions. When first wearing thongs in public my brain would react to dirty looks and be highly triggered by the slightest negative comment. It took self-will to develop the courage to discount and ignore the chattering monkeys and to fully enjoy positive feedback. It took self-control by me to recognize power and dominance displays at work were triggering emotions deep in my brain, and to willfully overcome and ignore them. In the same way I had to willfully decide to overcome my initial discomfort around gay men. When younger I did not mind men in dress or caftan, but an advance or even a wink from a gay man made me uncomfortable. That is something I had to think about and willfully overcome. Now I see it as a complement, in the same way I see the same action if it was by a women. This was a long LONG way to say, if you are wigged-out by other men wearing skirts, this is probably a problem in your head, not theirs. Also, they probably don't live anywhere near you, so not actually something you have to worry about today.

Wearing thongs built my confidence to show more skin. So trying out ways showing more I found miniskirts make good coverups for thongs. They also work well with a thong bodysuit. Now it's not thonging weather. Colder weather. Taking a cue from another thread, I swapped out thongs for leggings. Works well to keep warm. One of the posts in that thread on running tights and leggings says to have the courage to be different. Lead the way, don't wait for others to do it first. Where have I seen this look before? Pictures of soldiers serving as guards for the royal palace in Athens, Greece, show them wearing short, pleated skirts over leggings. From what I've read it is called the fustanella and a kind of man's skirt common to places in the Balkan peninsula. The current style dates from when Greek guerrilla fighters waging war against the Ottoman empire made it shorter and more functional for combat. It continues as a ceremonial symbol of cultural heritage as national dress for both Greece and Albania. A couple of my skirts have the label "Made in Bulgaria" so there you go. https://brightside.me/articles/10-countries-where-men-traditionally-wear-skirts-808962/ https://albanianflag.com/fustanella/ Clothing styles vary around the world in different places at different times. Current clothing designs seem to depend on what's considered typical gender for marketing. What fits or looks good is personal choice. My miniskirts are some of the best fitting items. Very comfortable. I've been wearing them in many places around town. I keep getting occasional compliments. Sometimes I hear: is that a kilt? Both have pleats. I have yet to receive a negative reaction. Plus, I'm having fun.

It's fascinating how arbitrary clothing norms are, yet people still get their hackles up over them. Adding a miniskirt is a cute and practical solution to the 'bulge problem' that leggings pose men. I wasn't aware of the history behind the Fustanella, but it makes sense. You don't have to go that far back in history to find skirts being common on the battlefield.

On a trip this past summer to Miami Beach, I wore miniskirts in different colors. They are skater style with high waist and short to mid thigh but pleated so they don't blow up in the wind. A miniskirt is a true mini if your fingertips can go below the hem. Mine do. I wore only the miniskirts around the hotel and on walks around the area. The fashion term for this: gender fluid. I paired miniskirts with either a thong bodysuit or fishnet tank top. My favorite outfit and the one getting the most positive comments was a black low cut mesh thong bodysuit with my black short pleated skater miniskirt. Definitely good for hot, humid weather. For the hotel pool area and beach I had a couple of twelve inch long miniskirts which come to the bottom of my butt. Easy on and off. No reactions at all. No stares. Only smiles. Servers at the National Hotel pool had short pleated miniskirts like mine. A fashion trend I had to try was wearing a short skirt with no underwear. I started out with a tiny fishnet g-string under the skirt, then got the confidence to go commando. I paired it with a skimpy sheer mesh or fishnet tank top. My 13 inch long miniskirt does cover essentials front and back. Pleats obscure any bulge up front. Not for bending over. Great for walking around. At first I was nervous about a wardrobe malfunction, but after a few minutes I stopped worrying and started enjoying. I walked many miles in my ventilated attire, along the boardwalk and Ocean Drive. I carried a small tote bag for strategic placement if the need arose, but no problems even with a breeze. For sitting down I put a small towel on the chair, like nudists do, and learned to keep legs together or push the hem down. So now I know why women do this. Super comfortable. Great to feel a breeze where you've never felt it before. It's fun being daring. For women another trend seems to be tight fitting short shorts. However, when walking around Miami Beach about one in two women wearing a skirt had one as short or shorter than mine, so a trend to shorter than what I saw last year. Fishnet dresses down to mid thigh worn as swimsuit coverups appear to be popular. The goal seems to have enough transparency to show off what kind of swimsuit is underneath. What I've learned being gender fluid. Men are reluctant to wear revealing fashion from fear of rejection and what others might think. Women don't necessarily feel free from it either. Good news is the range of sexy fashion and who wears it is expanding. Credit social media. So you've got company when going with more revealing outfits.

I had a fun thonged and skirted outing over the weekend. I attended a halloween themed alt rock music festival in another city. One of my favorite bands was on the bill and I knew they would draw a fun crowd. Being halloween, I had a feeling lot's of people would be dressed up and that people were going to be open minded and accepting. I've been to festivals at this particular venue before and noticed women wearing some kind of thong+see through cover before. So, I decided I wanted to push my comfort zone just a bit. I had some black cat costume accessories from the previous nights halloween party I attended so I decided to go as a sexy black back with a bit of a rocker twist. While trying on things, I arrived at wearing a black thong bodysuit, patterned tights, combat boots, a stainless steel chain belt, a cropped bomber jacket, and the cat accessories. I quite liked the way this looked, but I felt weird about sitting in an uber with just fishnet tights covering my butt. I had the idea to make a quick and dirty sarong type miniskirt from scrap fabric from one of my wife's dresses I hemmed for her. I used another swim sarong as a pattern. My thinking is I could use this for the ride and then scope at the vibe of the venue. If it felt right to go ass out, I could just untie it and stuff into one of my coat pockets. The addition of the skirt was quite sexy. Being quite short, it barely covered my butt. I tied the knot right in front of my thigh which meant the outline of the bodysuit and waistband of the G-string I had underneath were peaking out the front. As it happens, it was kind of cold and rainy at the venue that night so most people were bundled up. I kept the skirt on the whole evening, but it had slid down showing a fair bit of whale tail by the end of the evening. In some ways, I almost think this looked hotter than had I not worn the skirt at all. I quite enjoyed dancing in this get up and got a fair bit of positive attention from people. My sense of fashion is pretty gender bendy as it is, but this was probably the sexiest outfit I've tried to pull off in a public setting. One reflection I had on the drive home is how the wide variety of non-conforming clothing I've worn has helped build the confidence to try other things. There are lot's of posts on this forum about dealing with the anxiety of wearing a thong to the beach. In addition to that anxiety, I've also dealt with the anxiety of wearing skirts and dresses, tights and leggings, make-up, crop tops, and other more feminine coded items, all while presenting as a man. Because these are all things I wear in normal, day to day environments, my confidence is still fairly charged up whenever the chance to hit the beach comes up. I know some take issue with the topic of skirts on this forum however I think there's a lot of overlap in terms of the anxiety that can stem from stepping outside the box. https://www.flickr.com/photos/196359531@N04/54906242504/sizes/c/

On a recent trip to Miami Beach I took several miniskirts to wear around the hotel and walking along Ocean Drive and the boardwalk. I attracted no attention at all. I had mesh tank tops and thong bodysuits to wear with them. I had a fishnet miniskirt to try out with a fishnet g-string, but two fishnets do not equal opaque. So I wore a solid Skinzwear g-string underneath the miniskirt. When walking the miniskirt swings so it would be hard to pick up a view of the g-string underneath or anything else. For this year I also got some small crop tops. I discovered online shopping there are some small enough to be called men's sports bras. When wearing those smaller tops I went without anything under the miniskirts so I got a very breezy feel top and bottom. Great to wear in hot muggy weather. Very comfortable. I've learned to move and sit without wardrobe malfunction. I wore my Wicked Weasel fishnet short shorts with the g-string underneath and paired it with a small crop top. This combination got no reactions from people passing by. About 1 in 10 women walking along Ocean Drive wore something that was transparent. Back home I'm still wearing the miniskirts around town. I get the occasional compliment but mostly no attention. As pointed out in other forum posts, appearing different from others takes some courage to start and time to build confidence. With some confidence you start to enjoy the fun and freedom of wearing what you want.

It would be nice if skirts became more common and acceptable for men to wear. I have had the luxury of wearing skirts in Key West the last few trips I have taken there. One trip I was there it was super humid and hot out to the point of being uncomfortable. While chatting with a friend she jokingly recommended buying a skirt to wear out. I thought about it and said f it, why not so I went to Ross and found a couple that fit and bought them. I wish I would have done it sooner. Give it a try, it's only fabric. Unfortunately humans have put guidelines on what gender should wear what.

It may or may not be a skirt, but I wear a sarong a lot. Not so much in public, but out in my yard, driving to/from the beach or nudist resort. Most are a light airy material that works great in summer heat. I also wear them on our Caribbean holidays and never fail to get positive comments, even if it's at dinner or hanging out at the bar. I only wish I had that much positivity while wearing a thong.

I started out wearing sarongs on vacation. The transition to miniskirts wasn't difficult. On a late summer trip to Miami Beach I took several miniskirts along with small crop tops also called mens sports bras to wear with them. I wore shortest minis at 12 inches as coverups at the National Hotel pool. One was fishnet. They reach to butt crease. The rest were 13 to 14 inches long and could be safely worn with nothing underneath, which is way fun, breezy, and cool in hot weather. I also had mesh thong bodysuits to wear with them. I've worn miniskirts enough to get good at moving without flashing. Just like wearing thongs you build confidence over time and get comfortable without worries. I got a few reactions. One young man at the hotel seeing me with miniskirt and low cut mesh top remarked: you look amazing. A young woman at the hotel spotting me with the same attire got a look of excitement, gave me a thumbs up, and said: wow bitch, I love your outfit. In modern use the term bitch can be reappropriated for positive meanings, like assertive gender role bending. I'll own that. As I passed a group of young women with transparent coverups over their thongs and they saw me in miniskirt and crop top I heard, OMG that's beautiful. Walking along Ocean Drive I got several more positive comments. What happens when you wear a miniskirt through airport security? Some TSA agents pull anyone aside wearing a long skirt. I was wearing a skin tight skimpy thong bodysuit with my 13 inch miniskirt exposing upper thighs. The TSA agent took one look at me and waved me quickly through the old-fashioned scanner, like the one in the pre-check line. Fastest I've ever gone through a checkpoint.

I’m with JayBird. I like long and flowing sarong. They’re Polynesian in origin and very much at home in tropical, beach, and pool settings. Many are quite transparent and very much so if wet. Still, never have I had a negative comment. I’m not sure what sort of response I would get with tramp/trashy mini skirts but I support anyone wearing one. But spike heels may be too much ;) Sarongs are no different than a towel wrapped around after a swim. A tank top or linen shirt and you’re almost dress for a drink at the bar or a sidewalk cafe. Neon and bright color thongs show through quite easily on light colored fabrics which add to the fun. Often I opt for one than a thong I’ll just wear the sarong, commando. The thin fabric allows for a complete tan with a bit of modesty and mystery and SPF but it can be a show stopper when coming out of the water soaked. No worries, the knot on the front keeps the boys covered and social mores intact.

armand mentioned "A tank top or linen shirt and you’re almost dress for a drink at the bar or a sidewalk cafe" Yup, this is exactly how I dress for island resort dinners. Sarong and linen shirt. Usually commando unless the sarong is one of my thinner one, and then I'll wear a skin-tone thong.
