I have four suits with silicon straps that I take to the beach.  I have had them two years and they are all fine. 

It is inportant to get suits of the corect size because silicon straps don't streach that much.   It's also inportant that they are will made so that they are correctly stiched where the strap meets the suit. 

I don't understand the worry some have about silicon.  If you look, most scuba diveing masks are made of silicon.  They are used in the sea and they hold up better, and last a lot longer, than the old ones with black rubber rims.  Ask any scuba diver, they like the good qulity modern silicon masks.   The strap around the back of the head, that holds it on, is also silicon. 

Silicon is sensitive to UV.  I suggest you don't hang your silicon straped thong outdoors for months in the sun, or display it for monthis in a shop window, because UV light will eventualy degrade the silicon.  That's why silicon used to cauk windows has a white pigment in it to help protect against eventual UV breakdown. 

Do like scubadivers do, hand wash with fresh water after use, dry and store in a draw.    Don't wash in hot water or in the washing machine. 

It arrived today in shocking pink! Not bad turnaround (1 week). The 'build quality' isnt up to WW but it looks fun anyway, just so long as the straps dont snap.

All I need now is for the sun to return.

Both Dore beach n danc and Skinz offer clear plastic straps. I have from both as well as from Koalaswim

The plastic clear strapes look neat and from a distance become invisable,but are not all that comfortable

I have been wearing the Sheer Side Camel Toe by Koala for the past ten months or so. The best thing about it is that I now have no tan lines on my sides and given the extreme smallness of the suit, I have pretty much the same tan as if I were sunbathing nude exclusively.

The down side is that you have to be careful with the sides. They break quite easily at the point where the clear sides attach to the suit.  I have mended them, but it's never quite the same.

Thanks for your lovely compliments you guys. Its sunny here today (yippee) and a bank holiday, so that bikini might get another airing, although its maybe a bit big in the front so I'll take a few others for choice. Does anyone know if the straps are tan-thru? They are quite wide (anout 10mm) so would a bigger line than I'd like.  

Pete - the black ones are a pair of WW 611 knickers, I love them although the straps are a bit wide and I was thinking of thinning mine down to just an elastic strand.

Hi everyone.  I just found this message cool board thanks to a friend. It looks really exciting from what I've seen so far.

Let me start by saying I'm a real beach girl at heart and spend as much time as at the beach as I can.  I have a ton of skimpy string bikinis including a bunch of thongs to my name.  Like one of the threads I was reading described it, I continually try stretched my limits when it comes to what I will dare to wear to the beach.  

The thing is I get board just laying out and working on my tan.  I love the water and all water related sports including boating, water skiing, surfing, windsurfing and scuba diving. I'm a bit of an exhibitionist and love the excitement I get from wearing tiny suit but sometimes get in over my head and get more than I bargained for.  As hot as some of those ultra mini suits look, it just seems impossible to stay in them unless you're standing still so I've kind of stopped a little short of some of those suits.    

I've seen those suits with clear plastic straps that look positively wild but haven't bought one yet.  They look so cute but I can't imagine those plastic straps stretch and they don't seem to have any adjustments at all. I'm not even sure how you get in and out of them without breaking or ripping something.   Has anyone worn that kind of suit or know where to find one?

I saw a picture of one that I just have to get.  It had maybe couple inch wide patch in the front with a nearly invisible plastic strings around the girls hips with the cloth piece coming up from between her cheeks and tying in the center.  It pulled down on the plastic strap to gives that typical Y G-string look in the back.  I guess it also provide some bit of adjustment too if you could figure out how to reach back there and tie it.  I guess that where that really special friend comes in.  I figured you'd probably end up giving yourself a wicked camel toe in order keep it tight.  I guess it's not made for any activity but when I saw it I knew I just have to find one.  

I have worn g-strings with clear plastic sides for the past year. They can break easily, and you have to be very careful. The worst times are when you are taking the suit on and off. Still it is a great look, and you end up with no tan lines on your sides.

I've never had any trouble with the fit, and I've had less trouble with the suit getting stretched out.

And if your clear sides are like the ones on my suit, they will tan through and leave no line.
