My wife and I have visited Tulum several times and its beautiful beaches are a fantastic place accustomed to seeing small swimwear. Around half of the women sport thongs, and the rest opt for mostly two-piece suits. For men, the majority go for board shorts, with few daring to wear Speedos and an occasional rare sighting of a thong. At Playa Paraiso, my wife rocked a micro y string. With a low-rise design this piece reveals a touch of the bum cleavage and puts almost all the cheek on display. Far from causing any discomfort, it grabbed the attention of tourists, especially men who seemed to enjoy the generous view from behind. Despite the acceptance of skimpy swimwear in the area, few go for this tiny size. I stuck with my Speedo trunk shorts, which my wife approves of. Overall, this is an excellent place to wear the swimwear of your choice, as both tourists and locals are unfazed, and the beaches are truly paradise. Cheers!

ElDorado Seaside Suites:  Did a quick 5 nights trip over 4th of July and picked this resort specifically to wear a thong the whole time in main pool. Resort seemed to be more of a party resort for 45-55 year olds and thought this would work well for me. We booked a main floor swim out room which allowed to wear my thongs straight from my room to the swim up bar. To make sure I had the guts to do it I didn't pack any real swim trunks or even speedos which I have worn in other resorts in the past. I have to say it felt amazing to not care about what anybody thought and just wear what I wanted to. I'm no fitness model or spring chicken but had zero negative remarks in fact there were only positive comments from men and women.

Previously I've been renting houses in the Bahamas and always wear a thong, but that's a very private / secluded vacation so way easier to thong. I have been wearing thongs for 15 years now and this was the first time I just said what the hell and wore multiple thongs in front of hundreds of complete strangers.

Last January in the Bahamas my wife and I invited a friend and his wife to vacation with us and due to deep trust in our friendship I was able to wear thongs in front of them and that was much harder for me than July in front of strangers but it felt amazing. I've had a pool at home for the last 8 yrs and swim daily in my thongs so it's a real struggle to wear normal swimwear for me anymore.  

We’re HBR folks, so the thong is only for the beach area to the south at El Dorado Palms. There was absolutely no issue with it. I ran on the beach down to the Palladium Resort past Unico. The hotels have no control over the beach to the high water line. On the return I found myself behind two young women who were running the same route except they were both nude. That made for a tremendous incentive to keep up, but not too closely! Unfortunately I didn’t see them again on subsequent runs. I did not see another man with a thong on my runs, but plenty of women in various types of bare-bottoms, even some topless as well.

vetteguy99 that sounds like a great spot. Swim up bar straight off your room, and an age demographic that I fall into. The idea of taking no other swimwear is one I adopt often, especially when you know what you're heading for. I also do it heading to the beach. I too am lucky enough to have a fabulous group of friends who accept me for who I am. If I was in my pool with anything other than a thong on, they'd be astonished and probably ask if I was feeling ok :)
