Re:What do you wear in a public swimming pool?

Hi, thanks for all your input, just to give you an update, I am going swimming this Wednesday but unfortunatly it looks like the girl im going with has chickened out of wearing a thong bikini, she said her bum will get too cold lol. And when I asked her what I should wear she said shorts. Im not sure what I should do now, I will probably take both my swim shorts and swim thong but I don't know what to wear now as it looks like i'll be the only one wearing a thong. What you think i should do?

I suggest you quit whining, make a decision, and act on it. You clearly have the full support of this board to wear a thong.  Your friend is too scared so the only question remains, are you? What is the worst that can happen? They ask you to leave? Grow up. Life is short so take a chance on what will make you feel happy.

Dear thonguk,  I don't think you should wear a thong to the swimming pool.

You did not say if it was an indoor pool or outdoor, but just guessing, now that winter is approaching where you live, it's an indoor pool,  therefor it will be crawling with people.

In the UK, at an indoor pool, as the only person in a thong, and with your lack of self confidence, you will probably feel embarrassed.  It is very difficult to feel self confident when you are felling embarrassed.

You seem to be very nervous and torn about wearing a thong.  It would be better to enjoy the day at the pool with out the worry of if others approve, the girlfriend approves, the rules allow, etc.

Better save the thonging until you are in a more conducive environment, or have built up more self confidence.  Remember that the key on any date is to make the women feel like they are the center of your attention, no matter how cute the other eye candy.  Worrying about what others think of your thong, and glancing nervously about, will not put your girlfriend at ease.

If your girlfriend asks why you did not wear a thong, after talking about it,  just say that you thought it might make her uncomfortable and you want her to have a good, relaxed, time.

Today I was swimming at my local pool.  I was early, so it was only older men and woman there.  I usually wear a thong to the change room, and today it was a JM skinz black thong.  I changed into my white aussiebum water polo's with blue 07 on the bum, and headed to the pool.

I got a lot of looks getting into the pool, but it was good!  I did a few laps and got into the hot tub to soak, and a elder man asked me what the 07 was, and i replied, "Lucky number 7". He laughed and said that they look good on me.

Later in the change room I put on my thong back on and again the elder man noticed what I was wearing and said to me that they were different and that he had never seen a man wearing a thong before, and again said that they looked really good on me.  I said "Thanks", got changed, and left, feeling great about myself.

I'm not entirely sure this is the right place for this post but, reluctant to start a new topic that may not offer much discussion, I thought this might be suitable...

As you may have read elsewhere, I exclusively wear Muscleskins suits at the pool when lap swimming (two or three times a week usually). Admittedly they're not thongs but the custom Pro-Vs I mostly use are smaller than anything anyone else wears and the custom Pro-Rio is definitely narrow by most people's standards, especially once I've been swimming a while!

I've been swimming at the same pool for quite a while now, building up the distance and speed I swim and, apparently, building up respect from some of the other pool users (I only discovered this this week when I received a couple of compliments). Last week I'd been swimming for a while when I realised the two other pool users (both of whom joined after I'd started) were discussing something while looking in my direction. I was concerned they might think my rio suit was 'inappropriate' and realised one of them was then waiting for me to swim back to the end they had stopped at. As I was about to turn, she said 'Excuse me, are going to be swimming much longer?' Given I'd swum just over a mile and was aiming for three, I said vaguely, 'I'm not sure... probably a while, yes.' She then said 'Well this pool is meant for leisure swimming - it's not really appropriate for competitive swimming.' I was surprised that the issue was my swimming, not my suit and shocked at the suggestion that a gym pool was not 'appropriate' for training in. Anyway, I apologised (I'm really not sure what for!) and said I'd slow my pace. I then got so angry at the ridiculousness of the situation that I got out after about 5 minutes and left.

I've since checked with the gym staff and I've been assured that I'm fine training in the pool. Again I was a little anxious about raising the issue of my swimming as they have cameras on the pool area and the staff come by the pool quite often so they've seen my suits plenty of times and I guess I was worried they might say "You're fine for training in the pool but you might want to wear a bit more." As it was, they've encouraged me to continue and the compliments I received earlier this week definitely came as a boost.

I don't think I'll ever try a thong there (much as I would love to) but I'm pleased that the Muscleskins are readily accepted, even though they do turn heads!

nicthong 's story of doing serious laps remineded me of my friends story.  She goes to a gym where some are serious but there are often other less serious people using the pool for various activities. The lanes in the pool are marked on the bottom but often they dont have the floating pool lane markers deployed.  She just gets in and does her mileage, back and forth up and down.  As most serious swimmers know you tend to focus on the lane lines, who ever is sharing the lane, and geting your turns right so you dont impact the wall, but not much else.
One day she was doing laps as usual, a couple of lanes over becuase the inner ones were bing used.  Since she was doing long milage it was not unusual for others training along side her to get leave before she did, often replaced with still more swimmers.  Some times the replacements were serious and some times leisure swimmers.  One day she noticed that the were a lot of legs standing around in the lane to the left, and then noticed quite a few more on the lane to the right, mot of them just standing around.  After a couple more laps it dawned on her to surface and look around, only to find that she had spent the last half hour hacking up and down in the middle of a large water arobics class. This embarrised her no end.
She appolligiezed profusly to the two ladies nerest to her, and inquired why they had not tapped her on the sholder and let her know to get out, or a told her so she could have moved over into one of the end lanes. The ladies said that when  they call came into the pool they were admiring her style and did not want to disturb her, so they just got on and arranged the class around her.

Nicthong Great to see that your Muscleskins are accepted at the pool. I too tend to wear them most of the time  varying from Pro with full back, v back down to string with v back and even rio back. Just got some of these strings in wet look black and wet look blue and one in silver. I think the rears are great though I think the front pouches are just slightly narrow at the top and they would be better if they were flared out even if that meant having the super narrow sides reduced in length by maybe an inch either side. I have just received my firsr Skinzwear item - a skinny side rio which is very similar in shape to the Muscleskins string v back/rio back but it has a slightly wider pouch. It would be great if the muscleskins were like this making them more suitable for public pool wearing.

I agree they certainly turn heads.

I thought I should just clarify my statement "I don't think I'll ever try a thong there (much as I would love to)" as it appears it may have been read to mean I want the rush of wearing a thong in public. That's not what I meant.

To me, the Muscleskins Pro-V is an almost ideal suit for swimming. I'm a slim build so the V seat is a good cut for me - it doesn't expose too much but it's also not excessive so it's great for swimming. I like the Rio because it's briefer still (and I'm one of those people that's comfortable wearing less rather than more) but actually it's probably not as good for swimming as there's more movement of the fabric (the Pro-V probably stays in place more!). I'd love to try a thong not for the rush but because I believe a thong is probably THE best design for swimming (or sports in general). A thong follows the natural contours of the body providing both support and freedom exactly where they're each needed. Support at the front. And total freedom of movement for your legs, whatever stroke you're swimming. And that's why I'd love to wear one at the gym if I could. Not for any sense of exhibitionism or a rush or anything else - but simply because I reckon a thong is the best swimwear design for serious swimming (excluding the full body suits the pros use). It's just a shame they're not socially acceptable.

I swim in 1" Wavelines, in black. They're smaller than any speedo suits I've seen at the two pools I use, but a speedo for men with around 3-4" sides is the norm. Australians grow up in speedos when they're kids, and nobody bats an eyelid at anybody wearing one to swim in. That's what they were invented for, after all! I agree that a thong would be THE most practical thing ever for lap swimming, but I don't think I'll go that far. I have worn really brief stuff before, but that's hard to find with a draw-string (essential). So the Wavelines suit really well, and there's no question of acceptability.
I do 20 laps, or 1km every morning (only around 2/3 of a mile) because that's all I have time for between the pool opening at 6am, and me having to start work at 7am. It's the best way to start the day!

I have blue and a black Waveline suits and like them since they are pretty minimal but still full coverage.  The only negative I've seen is sometimes they will gap a little and some scrotum will peek out.  I have the right size, maybe they're just not patterned to match my body type or something.

Seems to be quite a keen waveline following, including me! Have a dark blue which actually is a bit narrower then my bright orange and white ones. On the beach the waistbands can be turned inwards so that they are narrower still!

Well so far he hasn't shown up in a Waveline, just his usual 4" side Speedo.
I, however, am getting more of an inclination every day to just go ahead and wear a thong. I was in the pool by myself the other morning (it is winter here, after all) and had my Wavelines pulled up wedgie-fashion into a thong, and the feeling was good, just reminding me how much better it would feel to wear a thong! If that guy, or anyone else asks about my suit again, I may say that I'd like to wear a lot less, and just guage reactions. I really don't think the staff will have any problems.
We'll see.

I've started swimming at a local volunteer pool, its quite old now but I like the fact that most of its patrons are older folks. And I find older people (>50) are a lot more accepting and friendly. I go early in the morning too (6AM) and since I always wear thong underwear I never feel shy about stripping down to them in front of other men. 've even brushed my teeth today in a thong in the common bathroom area!
When I started out I would wear nike swim briefs under boardshorts and then remove them once in the pool to swim simply because the lifeguards were young girls and I didnt have the courage to ask them if swim briefs were acceptable. And so the first few days I would kinda wait till they looked away and then remove my board shorts and toss them onto the deck and swim in briefs. Then I realized how stupid that was cause drying those shorts is a pain in the ass. But the last few days I've got the courage to go to and back from the pool to the lockers in my swim bikini. I also prefer nike, tyr, arena swimwear to speedo. Both the speedos I owned failed miserably in terms of quality.  I have a few womens bikini bottoms that I absolutely loved and bought and they fit fine. They look unisex and are extremely skimpy. I really want to wear one tomorrow when I got but I dont want to push it. Plus i'm a little cautious about bumping into someone I work with. Its a small town and if word got out that I wore "speedos" or thongs in the locker...
Check out the a picture of one of my nike bikinis on my profile page.

Did push-ups by the pool today in my black thong swimwear and walked around in the showers wearing it. Nobody said anything or gave me strange looks. Maybe us Danes are so afraid to be embarrassed that we don't want to comment on others' swimwear-choice or maybe we just don't care. Had kind of hoped on a positive reaction or remark though. Well, maybe next time.

I wear speedo and nike square cut suits at the country club pool and have never had a negative comment.   I'll wear speedos when I'm there for swimming as the environment is not all that thong friendly.    Of the 10 years I've been there, I don't think I've ever seen another guy in a square leg, and speedos occasionally only on the serious swimmer. It's mostly baggy swim shorts for most of the guys there but I simply can't stand those. So go ahead and rock the square leg suits, I think they are a great alternative as well and forget what others might think.

Re:What do you wear in a public swimming pool?

It really depends on the pool in question.

I live in a typical residential neighborhood in suburban Atlanta. Most of the people in my neighborhood are your typical 30-something parents with small children. There's also a very strong redneck/frat boy contingent in this neighborhood - so as you can guess, wearing a thong is really not an option at our neighborhood pool. If I go to the pool during the normal hours when people are there, I will just wear a pair of swim trunks (but not the big baggy dork shorts) to avoid any hassle from my redneck neighbors or the soccer moms. But more often, my GF & I will go to the pool at night, just before closing time when nobody else is there. When this is the case, I will wear a Speedo bikini (1" sides). We're looking to go one night soon and start wearing our thongs - she's got a great Brigite 1-piece thong swimsuit - but it's a real crapshoot trying to wear thongs to our pool, not knowing if someone else will be there or not. At the worst, I will wear the swim trunks over my bikini or thong, just in case.

We usually wear our thongs on appropriate beaches where the family crowd doesn't go to. We will also wear them at nude beaches and resorts - as we arrive and walk into the pool area, before we lay out in the nude. We haven't spent too much time travelling where we would use hotel pools, so I can't report on that.

This year I started wearing my bikini a lot more and find myself trying to avoid wearing my swim trunks as much as possible. It's too bad that so many people have such strong feelings against men wearing minimal swimwear - if people would lighten up about it, they might also find out that it really makes much more sense than baggy shorts.

Lately, I've been wearing prevail sport string bikini while swimming laps at an indoor pool. I've also used it in the sauna and spa. As it is unlined, it is a bit see thru when it is wet. I don't mind the occasional stares from both men and women.

I don't think I've worn anything other than a basic speedo to any pool I've been to over the last 10 years.  If it's an event, gathering, etc. where even that's not acceptable, I just "forget" to bring a swimsuit, but still eat, drink, socialize, etc. wearing regular street clothes.  That has only ever happened a couple of times as a result of my wife telling me not to because it's her family, etc.  It doesn't really bother me anyway, because whenever I go into the water, I like to swim thousands of meters/yards.  If I'm not doing that, it's just socializing anyway, and I can do that as well on the pool deck as in the pool.

Re:What do you wear in a public swimming pool?

Date Posted:08/01/2010 06:43:00Copy HTML

I've recently transitioned from Waveline to Muscleskins. I've been wearing Waveline 1" suits in black for some time at my gym pool (London suburbs).  I've never seen another man wearing anything that brief, but I feel very comfortable being in, and being seen in, Waveline - partly because I'm of the older generation that grew up in Speedos (maybe 2"-3" sides though!), partly because I'm slim with a swimmer's build, and partly because, frankly, I feel good and think I look good in them.

I got to the stage where I was ready to go briefer in the front pouch and the cut at the rear, so I ordered (in black) a Muscleskins Micro suit, narrow pouch (I'm small) and, after some thought, Lean back. As an afterthought I went for half-inch sides.

The suit is great - I really like it. It's a snug, maybe slightly tight fit (I'm 29-30" waist and ordered Small), the pouch fits me excellently and the back is great - that bit of extra butt exposure feels good, as does the edge of the suit material against the buttocks. A pretty good 'second skin' feel to the material - not quite as good as my Alphamoda suits (may be the sizing - see below), but certainly better than Joe Snyder.

Where I went wrong was in ordering half-inch sides. Looking back, when I worked my way briefer from Speedo, via Arena, to Waveline, it was the sides that shrank - the backs remained full coverage and the fronts remained the same 'budgie snuggler' style.  Front and back was where I had to lose material, and Muscleskins have delivered that perfectly.  The half-inch sides as well have given me a suit that I really like, and would happily wear in a hotel pool, but I don't really feel comfortable with in a gym pool.  I feel it is simply too brief to be seen as serious swimwear - I feel it's obvious I'm posing! It's not embarrassment, so much as not feeling 100% comfortable "in my own skin" (in the Muscle skin!) - I want to 'feel good', not have a half-concern that I'll feel on the defensive if someone makes an adverse comment. What I want is to be on that fine line between 'just happening to wear the briefest suits' (after all, someone has to!) and out-and-out posing.  I *have* worn the suit several times, but I wear shorts over it up to the water's edge - I'm happier (but till not 100%) in the water.

So, I've ordered a second Muscleskins suit, the same specification except one inch sides and going up half a size (to Small/Medium) - the website says the suits get tighter as sides get wider, and the half-inch-side suit that I have is just a bit on the tight side for me anyway.  I'll report back when I get it, and then I'm looking forward to exploring other colours in Muscleskins, and also briefer backs (which I thought originally would run a risk of bunching, but now - based on the fit and feel of my first suit - I feel will stay in place).

Interestingly, I find the narrow micro pouch on Muscleskins is definitely a better fit for me than on the corresponding low-cut/small pouch suits I have from other suppliers - a simple, smooth, nicely contoured bulge.  Dore I find gives a 'golf ball' look, Joe Snyder is higher cut and has material above the pouch flat on the abdomen which accentuates the bulge in a way that doesn't particularly appeal to me, and the pouches on my Alphamoda suits are too roomy and just not shaped right.  As I said above, I'm small, so my experience won't be general.

With ref to your comment on the rears of Muscleskins, I have bought semi-thong rio-back styles from them and they do indeed fit well without bunching, (thanks partly to a centre seam, and partly to the close fit) - unlike some other companies' products - so I'd recommend that you try going briefer - if you dare to, in a London pool!

A while back I was swimming regularly at my local gym and like you preferred the smaller suits. I started in 1" Arena suits and made my way to Muscleskins. Once you get over the psychological hurdle of wearing the smaller suits (including the narrower sides, front and back) you won't need to feel self-conscious about it at all. And you don't need to feel like you're posing simply because you're wearing a smaller suit; as has been commented on in numerous places on this board, it's all about how you carry yourself. If you're a serious swimmer, that's what people will notice... the size of your suit then just becomes your personal preference. Enjoy!

Re:What do you wear in a public swimming pool?

As mentioned In my 8/1/2010 posting above, I ordered a second Muscleskins suit with the same specification as the one discussed in that posting (colour black, micro narrow pouch, lean seat) except now with one inch sides (rather than half-inch) and going up half a size (to Small/Medium).

I've had the new suit a little while now, and it's great. To my mind it does look like a serious (albeit very brief) swim suit in a way that the half-inch-side suit didn't, now with 'balanced' brief sizing front, back and sides.  I feel comfortable wearing it, although I'm very aware that it's a definite step briefer than the Wavelines, so I'm still a bit on the look-out for any double-take glances from other swimmers - so far though, there haven't been any. It's interesting that the one-inch sides on the Muscleskin suit do look definitely briefer than the one-inch sides of the Waveline suits (which is fine by me!), because the side of the Waveline suit is only one inch deep at one point, whereas the Muscleskin suit is one inch deep right across the hips.

So, compared with the Wavelines, I'm now wearing a Musclekins suit that's thinner material, unlined, and briefer front, back and sides. And I'm enjoying wearing it and I feel comfortable in it.  Where do I go from here? Well, I've already ordered another suit, the same as the latest except with a briefer Capri seat.

One thing that has struck me about the Muscleskins suits is the enjoyment of putting them on. Compared with the Wavelines, the thinner unlined material and skimpier cut of the Muscleskins gives more the feeling of holding a scrap of material rather than a swim suit in the hands - it could probably fit in a matchbox.  And there's the feeling, when pulling it on, that the suit isn't really big enough to cover what needs to be covered - even though I know it will when the material is smoothed out and positioned.  It's the putting-on, rather than the wearing, that makes me a bit self-conscious in fact!

Anyway, that gets me up-to-date for now, and I await the next suit with the Capri seat!

I seem to be on a bit of a roll with the Muscleskins suits!

The Capri-seat version is great.  I feel very comfortable wearing it to swim.  It really does seem to me to be a well-balanced (front, side, back) "very brief but not outrageous" suit.

I've now ordered a Rio-back 3/4-inch-side suit.  Right now I feel that it is pushing things ... but then, that's how I felt about the Capri back before I started wearing it!

I have lately been wearing Muscleskins 1/2 inch Micro, Lean back suits. These are the ones that I have bought recently.
However, most of my non-thong Muscleskins suits are 1/2 inch Posers, Lean back, therefore I still wear them until they 'die'.
I must admit that I'm not a "Muscleskins Poser" guy any more.    I feel that they are a bit too brief for the pool, and perhaps even for the beach.  They highlight too much my package, and that is not my intention.
I don't actually swim laps at my local pool.  I'm a bodybuilder and my body and swimming don't get along very well.  I just walk 10 minutes up and down in the pool, then I jump into the spa for 15 min, then 15 minutes in the steam room, after that I stay 3 minutes under the cold shower (sort of 'spanish' shower), and finally 10 or 15 minutes back in the normal pool, just relaxing, not swimming.
I can tell that my 1/2 inch Muscleskins turn a lot of heads.   I don't however parade around, just jump from one pool to the other, and if there are lots of kids at the kids pool (midway between the swimming pool and the cold showers) I decide to wrap my towel around my waist.
The colours of the suits do make a difference too.   I have also decided to stay away from bright colours like yellows, orange, neon lime, pink, coral etc.  I only wear darker colours like black, titanium, olive (my favourite), burgundy, red, royal and navy.
I prefer to hit the pool early in the morning, or late at night.  Less kids, less people, and more quiet.
Once my 1/2 inch Poser Muscleskins begin to die, I will stick to 1/2 inch Micro, Lean back suits.   Agree with Mike that all goes back to how comfortable you feel wearing the suit at the pool.  And the 1/2 inch suits don't make me feel uncomfortable, even though I get noticed straight away.

Re:What do you wear in a public swimming pool?

I've now received the Rio-back suit - 3/4" sides, micro narrow pouch.  I've worn it once so far to swim; only one or two others in the pool, I felt a bit self-conscious but no comments or stares.

I ordered this Rio-back suit in titanium (rather than the black of my previous suits), partly for a change and partly with a view to more easily being able to identify individual suits in my gym bag without having to pull them out and examine them.  Along with John Howard (last post before this) I feel that, for me, the lighter, brighter colours should be avoided for suits to be worn at the pool, and in fact I chose black as being the most sober colour for a serious swimmer's suit. But I now think that I need to revisit that choice.

I've come to realise that black is a very contrasting colour against Caucasian skin. It's not "in your face" in the way that the bright colours are, but black does show off the cut, fit and sidestrap thickness of a suit very starkly.  I feel that titanium is that bit 'softer' - less contrasting - without materially detracting from the 'serious swimmer' aspect of a suit, and I'm becoming interested to explore the other sober colours that John Howard mentioned above - Burgundy and Olive are my front-runners at the moment.

I'm definitely intent on getting a Sport-back suit, probably with 1" sides, but I'm notgoing to rush into this until I've cycled through wearing my Lean, Capri and Rio suits to the pool a few times to see if I get more comfortable ending with the Rio with each cycle.  I do actually think though that I'll feel more comfortable in the Sport-back suit (when I get it) than I am in the Rio.  What I've come to realise is that my discomfort with the half-inch sides of my first Lean-back suit was in part because of a feeling that half-inch sides seemed to say "Look at me, I'm wearing pretty well the narrowest sides possible" and, in the same vein, wearing a Rio back seems to say "Look at me, I'm wearing the narrowest back possible without showing the crack between my buttocks (or, as the Muscleskins site puts it, "exposing the anal cleft").  Although a Sport-back *does* expose part of the anal cleft, it *isn't* the smallest back possible "with exposure" - that's the Thong-back.  OK so this is my personal take, and maybe a Sport back may be a step too far in other people's eyes, but we'll have to see.

So that's me updated again, next step is to decide the colour for the Sport-back suit.

Agree with Mike1879, as with lots of things in life, it's a matter of trial and error.I can see that a Sport-back suit should be very comfortable to wear for swimming laps;  much more comfortable than a Rio back.  Rio-back suits have never been comfortable to me.  They tend to ride up badly and don't stay in place.Out of the MS range, the one that suits me better is the Lean-back.  It doesn't ride up, and it's just enough fabric.Agree again with you Mike, the best front is the micro narrow pouch.  Especially for the pool, the counterpart style - the Poser - is too much 'in your face' showing your package, and doesn't seem to be appropriate for the pool.
Regarding the 1/2 inch sides, I think they are not that much of a 'look at me, I'm wearing the narrowest sides possible'....  Yes, it's true I haven't ever seen any other males wearing that narrow side, BUT  I have plenty of times seen girls and women wearing them.   If females can wear it, men can wear them too.  For me, the half inch sides highlight better the shape of my legs.
The main thing I think, is that regardless of how brief your swimwear is, it's not hard to tell when someone is showing off or just doing his business.   I do not parade with my Muscleskins half inch side suits;   for instance,  I still want to wear my MS half inch lean back poser front suit emerald, but I have decided to wear it only if Im able to hit the pool first thing in the morning.  So far I didn't succeed.  This because I refuse not to wear them, I paid for them.  but also prefer to wear them when there are few people around and most adult swimmers.    As I usually hit the pool late around 8:30 Am when all the legion of little kids and parents are in the swimming lessons pool next to the pool I deep water walk, I decide to wrap a towel around my waist when I walk by that kids pool.
Regarding the colours, yes, black is and alwasys be the coolest colour for minimal swimwear.  But on the other hand, it can become a bit boring.  And bright colours are not very flattering in my opinion most of the times.    That's the good thing of the non-bright colours other than black, like olive, titanium and burgundy.   When wet they become a bit darker, and they look great.
but I can't deny that I still would like to do my deep water walking wearing a thong, even jumping in the spa and steam room.  Would have to have a towel outside the pool next to the stairs to wrap it around my waist after exiting the pool.   Too much of a hassle I think.   At the beach, yes.  no worries wearing thongs mate.  but  at the pool, it's a different story. I mean the local pool, a complete different story if it is a resort adult pool, or the pool at a cruise ship.

On Vacation in Los Cabos my wife and I both wore very skimpy thongs and g-strings on the beach and most of those were see through. Around the pools we were a little more conservative we both still wore g-strings or thongs but we would cover up if we were going to the bar or the washroom we did get some stares and a lot of looks especially my wife but isn;t that part of the reason we wear these skimpy suits. I sure hope so

I have 2 White suits, one an extremely skimpy one-inch brief and one a ultra-low waist Aussiebum that reveals a lot of butt cleveage. Depending on mood but on normal days I will don the Aussiebum as it is more for serious laps which is a bit see-thru. If feeling kinky will wear the skimpy one that leaves nothing to imagination.

White speedo solar here too.  However if there are lots of little kiddies I go with a hugo boss orinoco square cut.  White speedo gets attention!  I want to wear my Jose Snyder bulge but won't do it on my home turf.

I don't have the guts to wear a thong to a public swimming pool. I have a few DORE 6" bikini's with 1/2" sides and moderate front which I wear when going to a swimming pool. Sometimes I use these bikini's on the beach when taking a dip in the sea. I just put them on over my thong.

If I'm on vacation, and out of town, I will always try a thong first.  I even do this when staying overnight at a motel if we're driving a large distance.  So far I have had no problems, no matter how conservative the area.  I don't think I would try a thong at an ordinary community pool, but pools at tourist areas have always worked out.  Like many have said,  just do it--most people really don't care!

last time i went swimming, i just wore my blue joe snyder thong in the pool (see profile pic) and just walked around with a towel around my waist (hotel). there was a few looks from other swimmers and in the change room but no bad comments. one or two suggestive looks though... i think i could have gotten some in the change room from one of the guys there if i went that way...

At the public pool I wear my 1" Speedo Solar.  I wear cover shorts to and from the bath/changing room.  But, I sun and swim without the cover shorts.  Some stares, a rare negative comment but generally no issues.  I am fit and confident-this helps.  A six pack in a speedo vs. a muffin top in board shorts.

Hard to find Speedo Solor 1 inch side bikini anymore.

I find my Japanese low rise and Gregg Homme bikini's with a one inch side and 3/4 back lot better then full bottom back swimwear. The looks I get are the usual,  and the surprise when people see you for the first time and you are not in dork shorts.

I started to wear Zoots multi colored swimwear trunks with 2 inch sides and less then a full back more then 3/4 back. I've gotten some ordinary looks from women that show they didn't care what I was wearing.

Sometimes when I am wearing the Zoot bikini I saw a older women who, when passing me by on the pool deck, seemed kinda annoyed.  Today she was doing laps in the lane beside be.  I climbed of the water to get a floatation device ( Water Noodle) for myself.  Is I walked back she said "I didn't think your the type". I was a bit confused at what she was getting at.
I explained to her i didn't want to move my upper body to swim. She responded back saying "No, I mean you got a nice body". I thanked her and was surprised she even bothered to say anything to me.

My favourite of all is my BODS low rise bikini with white stripe along the front side which is a bit transparent when wet.

Very easy to find 1 inch solar. Go to speedo site. they have blue black white and red, and if you buy two there is a discount.

In my 10/23/2010 posting, I said that I was intending to order a Muscleskins suit with the next-briefest back (Sport) with the same 3/4" sides and micro-narrow pouch as my existing Lean, Capri and Rio-back MS suits.

I've had the Sport back suit (in Burgundy) for a while now.  I like it very much; I feel it looks a 'sporty' style, it's comfortable (more so than the Rio back) and it's a pleasure to swim in it and feel the water flowing over my exposed butt. I've swum three times in it so far. I feel much the same when wearing it as I mentioned in my 10/23/2010 posting about the Rio-back suit: a bit self-conscious, but far from acutely so. I'm comfortable putting it on in the changing room, but I wrap the towel around me when walking through to the pool. I'm happy *in* the pool with it, but more self-conscious when I'm out of the pool. Maximum number of other swimmers at the same time as me so far has been three: I think I'm going to start feeling noticeably more self-conscious if that number increases.

It is, of course, a very brief back, and surely it's only a matter of time before I get comments. Occasionally on this site there have been references to women (usually older women) passing favourable comment on men in thongs or almost-thong styles, and it would be just great if I got that reaction! If not, my 'story' will be that I wear the suit under shorts in the gym, and have got out of the habit of bringing another swimsuit to change into. I don't think that I *need* to justify myself that way, but I feel that having a plausible story will mean I'm not thrown onto the defensive if I get disapproving comment.

I usually swim when there are few or no others, but I'm thinking that it may be best not to wear the sports-thong back routinely, at least just yet.  I'm actually somewhat surprised that I feel as happy as I do wearing it, and I do have to remind myself that it's a million miles away from what other men wear. One other guy wears 2" side Speedos, and they look racy compared with the 'regular' boxer styles of other men.  Before I transitioned to Muscleskins, I thought my Waveline 1" side suits were pushing it (although I felt very happy wearing them) and now I'm in a smaller-pouched, thinner-sided, unlined suit with a very skimpy back - someone is going to say something, surely? Let's hope it's approving!

I'm now so near a Thong that it's a definite I'm going to take that step. The thing that concerns me a bit is that, when swimming front crawl, the amount of side and back material showing through turbulent water with a Thong back suit will be so little that it may appear at first glance that I am not wearing anything at all! Maybe a brighter colour will be called for? In any event, I think I'll first try out the Thong back suit, when I get it, at a different branch of my gym just to see how it goes.

I feel I've come a long way in a few months with my swimsuits. The Muscleskin material, dark colours, fit and styling are just the best as far as I'm concerned for pool swimming and I'm looking forward to taking the last step to a Thong back.

Re:What do you wear in a public swimming pool?

Recently while on a business trip to Florida panhandle, I stayed at a hotel with an indoor pool, which I had anticipated prior to my departure.  I brought along a few risque open fishnet g-strings and a few conservative thongs and g-strings.  After my arrival I decided to get familiar with the hotel surrounding and walked around the pool/hot tub area.  I noticed that the area clientele seemed be mostly business travelers and I did not see any families.  So on my walk I stopped by the front desk because I had noticed a sign by the pool that stated "proper swimwear only" and I was curious to what they considered "proper swimwear". The girl at the front desk said that as long as you were not nude they considered it to be "proper swimwear".  So I went to get some dinner and returned to the pool around 9pm. and decided to  wear one of my more risque fishnet g-string.  About 5 minutes after I got into the pool, the same girl I had spoken to at the front desk came walking into the pool area.  She said excuse me "we do not allow nude swimming" I informed her that i was not nude and got out of the pool and grabbed a towel.  Once I was out of the water she saw my waist band, and said "Oh, I am so sorry for bothering you but on the security camera it looked like you were nude when you undressed and got into the pool, so I had to come and warn you about our policy".  Once she knew I was indeed wearing a G-string and not nude she was full of apologies and even commented on how she wished she had the nerve to wear such a tiny suit, and that it looked great.
